1 Honiton Community College Academy Trust Special Educational Needs (SEN) Information Report 1. The Kinds of SEN for which provision is made at Honiton Community College Academy Trust Honiton Community College Academy Trust is a Secondary mainstream maintained Comprehensive. We operate an inclusive admissions system (please refer to the College Admissions Policy). We believe in Success for all We have an inclusive ethos with high expectations and targets, a broad and balanced curriculum differentiated to meet individual needs and systems for early identification to barriers to learning and participation. We believe that educational inclusion is about equal opportunities for all learners whatever their age, gender, ethnicity, impairment, attainment and background. The campus is accessible to students with mobility needs; significant works have taken place in recent years to address areas of inaccessibility. The main entrance to the college has disabled parking bays so that parents and specialist transport can access the college site. We have ongoing building work, and the most recent new build has excellent accessibility. (See accessibility plan) 2. How does Honiton Community College Academy Trust identify and assess students with SEN The SENCO meets with all of our partner Primary Schools and is informed as to the SEN needs of all students transferring to Honiton Community College. There are four reports issued each year to parents and all students are given levels that are referenced against their College targets. If any student that is on our SEN register fails to reach their targets in a subject they are offered intervention from the Additional Needs Department. Subject staff are able to refer any student not on the SEN register for an assessment should this be required. 3. Information regarding SEN provision All students on the SEN register are monitored throughout the academic year.

We operate an inclusive admissions system (please refer to the College Admissions Policy).

2 Each term the Additional Needs Department reassess all students on the register and put in place interventions if students are not performing as expected. We follow an Assess, Plan, Do, Review Cycle. Each student on the SEN register is assigned a key worker from the Additional Needs Department. A comprehensive plan is agreed; this is implemented and then reviewed at the end of the following term. The responsibility for teaching students with SEN is firmly with the class teacher. Quality first teaching requires that the needs of all students are routinely met within the classroom. If a student struggles to make progress then an Additional Needs Assistant may be assigned to the class and the Additional Needs team may become more involved in supporting the delivery of Quality First Teaching. The College curriculum is adapted to meet the needs of all students, differentiation is a key focus and a great deal of professional development has been provided to facilitate this. The college makes reasonable adjustments to the curriculum and the learning environment whenever necessary. Additional support is offered by the Additional Needs Department which may include: In class support Small group interventions (wave2) 1-1 interventions (wave3) The decision as to which intervention is offered will be closely linked to class assessments/step tests and will be offered to students that are falling behind their targets within the Assess, Plan, Do review cycle. All College activities are made available to students with SEN. Sometimes a risk assessment will have to be undertaken. Support will be offered to facilitate the inclusion whenever necessary. However if after full discussion with parents/carers we feel there is an unreasonable level of risk associated with an activity we may need to offer an alternative. At Honiton Community College Academy Trust we have a good support network to support the emotional and social development of students with SEN: Key workers in the form of Additional Needs Assistants Student Support Centre workers Student wellbeing co-ordinators

Parents/carers of students with SEN are fully involved and consulted regarding all matters relating to their child. This is most evident within our key worker system whereby each student on the SEN register has a key worker who meets with them regularly. This could be daily/weekly or termly depending on the needs of the student. The key worker will also have regular contact with the student s parent/carer. Honiton Community College Academy Trust is an inclusive college which continuously strives to remove barriers to learning for all its students. Besides being a moral imperative this also complies with the Children and Families Act 2014 and the Code of Practice. Young people are consulted continuously throughout their education through their key workers and the Assess, Plan, review and Do cycle. Outside agencies are involved in order to further enhance this support. Any complaints should be initially addressed to the Additional Needs Team; if this fails to resolve the matter then the headteacher should be informed. The headteacher may decide to involve the governing body and if this does not conclude the matter then parents can contact the 0-25 SEN Team at Devon County Council.

4 6. Transition Arrangements The college has comprehensive transition systems in place with all our feeder primary schools. Students with SEN are given support when making the transfer from the primary school to the community college. Students with SEN are given support when making the transition between key stage 3 and key stage 4 and again between key stage 4 and 5. Careers South West and the Educational Psychologist are included routinely and parents/carers are invited to all relevant meetings. All information is collected and distributed appropriately between primary and secondary phases. 7.
