4 Baton Rouge City Court Driver Improvement and Alcohol Rehabilitation DWI Class To provide information through the use of lectures, videos, and handouts to address the dangers and problems associated with alcohol impairment and its influences on driving safety. This program consists of 6 hours of education and addresses the following: Legal definition of DWI and its penalties Effects of alcohol/drugs on driving abilities Different classifications of drinkers Countermeasures to avoid future DWI arrests Segments that depict the reality and impact of injuries to victims of DWI crashes. Embodies suggestions made by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Fulfills the requirements of Baton Rouge City Code title 11, Section 140, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated. Recommended for: DWI and DWI amended to Reckless Operation charges. Day/Time: Class offered on the 1 st and 2 nd Saturday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Location: Baton Rouge City Court, Room 305 DWI Offender= $105 for school and substance abuse evaluation. School Only= $55. Must pay in advance to attend program 4

5 Baton Rouge City Court Defensive Driving Course (SCOPE) Safe Car Operations Procedural Education (SCOPE) Recommended for: To provide information that promotes and improves skills for safe driving. This program consists of four (4) hours of instruction. Upon completion of the course, if the offender is eligible, Article may be applied to the offenders driving record. Offenders who have not received a moving violation within the past 3 years. Day/Time: Series of two sessions taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. OR One session Saturday from 8:00 a.m. 12 p.m. (Classes are usually provided on the first and second Saturday of each month.) Location: Baton Rouge City Court, Room 128 Special Note: $30 (reassignment fee is $20) Must pay in advance to attend program Pre-registration is required in Room 102 immediately following payment. 6 Baton Rouge City Court Defensive Driving Course for Habitual Offenders SCOPE II Recommended for: Day: Time: To increase the awareness of the offender as a means of developing safe driving practices within the law. This program consists of six hours. Upon completion of the class, if eligible, Article may be applied to the offender s driving record. Offenders with multiple traffic offenses. One session Saturday class. 7 ALERT Driving School Driver Improvement Recommended : Days/Time: To provide information that promotes and improves skills for safe driving. This program consists of four hours of instruction. 8 Angelwood Alcohol Evaluation and Traffic Safety Recommended: Days/Time: To provide an Alcohol evaluation and educational class on traffic safety Program consist of examining driving behavior and impact of alcohol on drivers as well as the legal, physiological, financial, and social consequences of DUI and DWI offenses. DWI and DUI offenses 8:30am - 9:00am (registration); Class begins at 9:00am. Location: 1232 S. Acadian thruway, Baton Rouge, LA (225) $100 (Cashiers check, money order, MasterCard, or Visa) Angelwood Driving School Recommended: Days/Time: To provide information that promotes and improves skills for safe driving. This program consists of four hours of instruction. Upon completion of the course, if the offender is eligible, Article may be applied to the offenders driving record. 12 Baton Rouge City Court Program for Anger Management (PAM) Recommend: Day/Time: To help offenders develop socially-acceptable behavior and methods for controlling emotions. This program consists of 6 hours of educational training on anger control and techniques on controlling anger. Attendees will learn how to identify the triggers and emotions that escalate into behaviors of anger Disturbing the peace, fistic encounter, simple battery, simple assault, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and damage to property. One session : Saturday class (usually 1 st and 2 nd Saturdays of the month) from 8:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. $55 ($20 reassignment fee) must pay in advance to attend program Location: Baton Rouge City Court, Room 309 Special Note: Pre-registration is required in Room 102 immediately following payment. 13 Professionals Engaged Against Crime in East Baton Rouge (P.E.A.C.E.) Recommend: Days/Time: To help participants Learn how to recognize and break the anger cycle by utilizing cognitive behavioral techniques and adopting conflict resolution models to change long term behavior. Through cognitive behavioral anger management group treatment, individuals will have improved communications understanding, and education about strategies for controlling tempers and supportive reinforcement of positive behavior. Distributing the peace, fistic encounter, simple battery, simple assault, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and damage to property. 24 sessions that last 1 ½ hours per session; conducted weekly. Program last for 6 months. The cost for initial session is $30.00 and $25.00 for each session. 14 Restoring Hearts Outreach Center Anger and Stress Management Program To help participants through a process that focuses their attention on their psychological Abuse, mental abuse, physical abuse when they response to Anger of Stress in a violent aggressive way. Offenders will learn how to be aware of uncontrollable abusive behavior. To help offender develop their social awareness and learn how to develop new methods on how to control their destructive emotions and physical self control of outbursts. This class consists of the Duluth Model the power and control wheel. An intake assessment will place an individual in either anger or stress management, of which both classes are six week classes. Identify cognitive distortion of Behaviors and threatening behavior The effects of violence on the family and who live in the home children Identify stressful behavior patterns and what will contributed to them Development of the self talk and how it play a role to talk your self out of the critical situations How the kind of stink in thinking can be undone Realizing Signs of depression or anxiety of up-coming emotional events how they play a role in isolating family and friends Identify Treats and intimidation and the harmful role with play on the family Recommended: Day/ Time: Simple Battery, assault, Domestic Violence, disturbing of the peace, aggravated assault. 16 Baton Rouge City Court Community Service Work Program To help convicted DWI and other offenders comply with community service work ordered by the Judge. Assist offenders with complying with DWI sentencing requirements as well as provide the judges with: Sentencing alternatives in lieu of fines Sentencing alternatives in lieu of incarceration, etc. for offenders. Over one hundred non-profit agencies contract with Baton Rouge City Court and benefit from the program. Day/Time: Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Location: Baton Rouge City Court, Room

18 Baton Rouge City Court Court s Effective Decision Making School (CEDMS) Recommended: Day: Time: To encourage participants to develop critical thinking skills that will lead to pro-social behavior, and reduce the frequency of anti-social behavior. CEDMS is a 6-hour educational program that offers the opportunity to: Develop critical thinking skills and reduce impulsive activity Develop skills that will result in responsible thinking, pro-social behavior. Develop cognitive behavioral skills to produce positive outcomes Theft of goods or services, Trespassing, Solicitation, Public urination, Disturbing the peace, Violation of noise ordinance, Alcohol/drug related offenses, Public littering, Vandalism, Resisting arrest, Interfering with police officers, Making false calls to 911, Illegal use of a movable, Refusal to leave an inhabited dwelling or entry of an inhabited dwelling, Computer fraud, etc. One session Saturday Class 8:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Location: Baton Rouge City Court, Room 321 $55 (Reassignment fee $20) Special Note: Pre-registration is required in Room 102 immediately following payment. 19 Connections for Life Content; Day/Time: Contact Persons: Location: This is a transitional living housing program for women (and children) who are single and indigent. The goal of the program is to assist these women from dependence to independence. The women receive assistance through substance abuse meetings, assistance in finding housing, employment and education. They also provide food, clothing, medical assistance, job search assistance, and transportation to and from church, work, medical appointments and substance abuse meetings. The facility provides for about 15 women to live on site as well as they operate a Thrift store which proceeds benefit the women that are living there. 20 DAWN - Psychosocial Skill Training Program Recommended: Day/Time: Location: To emphasize the role of thinking and perceiving information on emotion and behavior. A psychological-social skill-training program for adults. It guides participants through a process that focuses their attention on their thoughts and emotional response to situations. Herein, he/she discovers how their emotions influence how they perceive, interpret, and associate meaning to events. This program consists of 6 hours of training providing knowledge and skills training in 3 major areas: Problem-solving Interpersonal relations Social skills DAWN is designed to enhance behavioral change by way of rational thinking, the reinforcement of positive relationships, civic responsibility, and respect for rules and regulations. These life skills will generalize across a wide range of everyday situations. 21 Do the RIGHT thing Effective Decision Making To provide practical education making decisions Cognitive behavioral instruction and activities on how to process information and using rationale models to make decisions. 22 YMCA Challenge Course Recommended : Days/Time: To provide an interesting and exciting way to experience human development and enrichment through group and individual activities. Challenge by choice is always stressed. During a full-day program a team of participants is guided through the course in a progression to more and more challenging exercises. By the completion of the program, the team participants achieve: A heightened sense of trust Self-confidence Personal achievement A new appreciation for teammates The power of working together Battery & theft One session per month 8:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Location: Paula G. 24 CCDVP: City Court Domestic Violence Program To end and reduce domestic violence actions against persons (primarily women) who are involved in manipulative and destructive relationships with their spouse, boyfriend, family members or intimate partners. The class consists of an intake appointment followed by a 17 to 26 week course held once a week. The curriculum is based on Domestic Abuse Intervention Project (DAIP) which was adopted by the Duluth model for domestic violence related behaviors. Recommended: Day/Time: Repeated occurrences of Simple Battery, Assault, Domestic Abuse/Violence Assessments are held on Thursdays between 9:00am and 3:00pm, Sessions are held on Tuesday s and Thursdays from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Location: Baton Rouge City Court, 3 rd floor, Room 305 $50 Intake Appointment (Program fee assed according to income. $20 Reassignment fee.) $20 for each session. 24

25 DVOP: Domestic Violence Offenders Program Provides the Judges of Baton Rouge City Court with an alternative to incarceration for perpetrators of domestic violence. The program is a means to holding domestic violence offenders accountable, while providing opportunities for offenders to change their abusive behaviors. Recommended: Day/Time: The class consists of an intake appointment followed by a sixteenweek course held once a week. The total cost of this program is paid to DVOP. Simple Battery, Assault, Domestic Violence Intake Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. Program sessions scheduled with Christopher Velardo Location: 5329 Dijon Drive, Suite 102 $50 Intake Appointment (program fee assessed according to income. $20 reassignment fee.) 25

26 Healing & Eliminating Abusive Relationships through Scripture Days/Time: To address abusive anger and violence through Biblical group discussions and individual counseling. Although the offenders are referred through the court, our primary concern is for the victim. Offenders may choose to attend class together. However, they are not put into a class until they are evaluated through their individual intake interview to determine if there is any danger inherent in them being together. If they both still wish to take the course, they may be placed in separate classes. Offenders are provided with the opportunity to address their negative behavior and develop skills for controlling violent behavior in relationships through scriptural teachings and practical abuse, anger management, parenting skills and specific stresses such as alcohol and gambling. Glory House offers ongoing support to offenders on a continuous basis if needed. 27 TRIP: Training to Restore Interpersonal Potential Day/Time: Location: The goals of the program is to help participants stop violence and controlling behavior, accept responsibility for abusive behavior, encourage commitment to change, understanding the violence cycle and exploring the social causes of violence and it s relationship to power and control. The purpose of the program is to create an environment where the participants can learn new ways to create healthy relationship and responses to people (partners, friends, spouses etc.). The program length is 12 sessions that last 2 hours per sessions. Overall, the program will last approximately 3 months. A one hour assessment is completed before the individual is allowed to participate in the sessions. Hours of sessions will be on Tuesdays from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The cost is $50.00 for initial assessment and $20.00 for each session. 29 Baton Rouge City Court Volunteer Program (DLA) Driver s License Assistant To utilize the services and skills of volunteers to work with probation officers and the Driver s License Assistance Program. The Court s goal is to enhance the delivery of probationary services currently in place by: Providing more intensive supervision to offenders on supervised probation. 31 Baton Rouge Business & Career Solutions Center Purpose; Day/Time: Locations: To provide direction and guidance in placing individuals in careers that best suit their education, desire and skill levels. The Career center provides personnel to assist individuals in career advancement, career management, career planning, apprenticeships, education planning, job search assistance, resume assistance, training scholarships and veterans assistance. 32 Greater Baton Rouge Literacy Coalition GBRLC promotes life-long learning, work-readiness and career advancement by creating a continuum of services delivered in collaboration with our affiliate providers and other strategic partners. Together, we offer adult students pathways to success, built on a foundation of literacy. 33 Job Corp Through a nationwide network of campuses, Job Corps offers a comprehensive array of career development services to at-risk young women and men, ages 16 to 24, to prepare them for successful careers. Job Corps employs a holistic career development training approach which integrates the teaching of academic, vocational, employability skills and social competencies through a combination of classroom, practical and based learning experiences to prepare youth for stable, long-term, high-paying jobs. 35 Baton Rouge City Court Substance Abuse Self-Awareness Program (S.A.S.A.P.) Recommended: Day/Time: To educate, and increase offender s awareness of the dangers and consequences of the use of alcohol, marijuana, and cocaine, as well as prevent the destructive effects on their environment. This program consists of 6 hours of educational training on substance abuse. Attendees will learn how these mood altering substances affect the body and mind as well as the legal and social consequences of drug use. Open container, possession of marijuana, attempted possession of marijuana, purchase or possession of alcohol by a minor, under age drinking. One session Saturday class from 8:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. usually on the 1 st and the 2 nd Saturdays of the month. 36 Baton Rouge City Court ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS Orientation and Institutional Meetings (AA) Day: Time: Location: To provide an introduction to Alcoholics Anonymous and information about AA. This one-hour Institutional Meeting is for offenders who are: Under the supervision of Baton Rouge City Court May have a problem with alcohol DWI, other repeated offenses related to alcohol. One session on Tuesday evenings 6:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. Baton Rouge City Court, Basement No charge Special Notes: Family members are welcome to attend. 36

37 Baton Rouge City Court Cocaine Anonymous (CA) Recommended: Day: Time: Location: To support individuals with the problems surrounding cocaine use. This program consists of a one-hour support group meeting. Those attending are provided with a schedule of available meetings offered throughout Baton Rouge. Repeat substance abuse offenders. 38 Baton Rouge City Court Drug Screening Program Days/Times: Location: To help probation officers develop a treatment plan for drug abusers, enhance the supervision of offenders, and provide information to judges when they are sentencing individuals found to be using drugs. Offenders on supervised probation may be placed on a random screening regiment at the request of the judge or probation officer. The results are available within 30 minutes following the screening. 39 H.A.A.R.T. HIV AIDS Alliance Region Two Comprehension Risk Reduction Counseling Services Recommended: Days/Time: To provide education to people and give counseling for at-risk behaviors to those associated with HIV-AIDS individuals Program consist of screening, assessment of clients needs, development of a client-centered prevention plan, coordination of services with active follow up, and client monitoring and reassessment of clients needs and progress. Charges with prostitution and solicitation of prostitution. Based on Registration Location: 4250 North Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA (225) No Cost. Program funding through grants and state funds. 39

40 HEARTS - Chemical Dependency Recommended: Day/Time: Location: To deal with any type of life controlling problem, from substance abuse to negative habits (smoking, gambling, etc.) and offer solutions from a Christ-centered perspective. Provides individuals with proper tools needed to break the cycle of addiction in their lives through Biblical group discussions and individual counseling. Ongoing support to the offender is provided by Glory House on a continual basis if necessary. If an individual feels that more intensive treatment is needed, Glory House provides referrals to long-term treatment facilities across the nation. Substance Abuse/Addictive Behaviors. 41 New Hope Outpatient Drug Program Recommended: Days/Time: To serve people who are either dual-diagnosed or straight dependent, who are in need of substance abuse counseling? This program is an introduction of the 12 Steps of Recovery that focuses on: Cognitive skills training Behavioral skills training Interpersonal skills training Individual or group setting in a therapeutic milieu Offenders charged with substance abuse, and those needing evaluations. Group and Individual sessions are flexible, providing evenings, weekends, and by appointment. Times are generally set up for: Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday 7:00 p.m. 8:30 p.m. or weeks (depending upon nature of charges).
