1 2013 Winners of Professional Lawyer of the Year Awards Atlantic County Bar Association Randolph C. Lafferty is a partner in the firm of Youngblood, Lafferty & Sampoli in Linwood and he concentrates on civil litigation. Mr. Lafferty has been certified by the Supreme Court as a Civil Trial Attorney. He is a past president of the Atlantic County Bar Association and has served on the governing boards of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the American Trial Lawyers Association-NJ. Mr. Lafferty is a Master in the Haneman Inn of Court, and is a past member of the District I Ethics Committee. He is a graduate of Rutgers University and Western New England School of Law. Bergen County Bar Association Thomas J. Herten is a partner in the firm of Archer & Greiner in Hackensack, specializing in commercial litigation. He was honored in 2006 by the Bergen County Bar Foundation with a Lawyer Achievement Award for his efforts in improving and modernizing our legal system. Mr. Herten has received appointments as a Special Master in commercial matters in the federal District Court and state Superior Court and frequently mediates complex commercial disputes. He has served on the District II Ethics Committee. Mr. Herten is a graduate of Seton Hall University and Seton Hall University School of Law. Burlington County Stephen J. Mushinski is Of Counsel and Chief Operating Officer of the Parker McCay law firm in Mount Laurel. He concentrates his practice in school law and public sector labor relations law and has represented numerous school districts, municipalities, and municipal authorities. Mr. Mushinski is active in the Burlington County Bar Association and the Educational Negotiators Association. He is a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Rutgers University School of Law. Camden County Bar Association Ann M. Gorman joined Camden Regional Legal Services in 1991 and today is deputy director of South Jersey Legal Services, which serves seven southern counties. She oversees grants, administration, finance and human resources. Ms. Gorman is a member of the national Legal Services Corporation Advisory Group on Fiscal Operations, which has developed accounting guides and fiscal best practices for legal services providers. She co-chairs the Pro Bono Committee of the Camden County Bar Association. Ms. Gorman is a graduate of St. Joseph s University and Widener University School of Law. Cape May County Bar Association J. David Meyer is a partner in the firm of Smith and Meyer in Galloway. He has been certified by the Supreme Court as a Criminal Trial Attorney. Before entering private practice, Mr. Meyer served for almost 20 years in the Cape May County Prosecutor s Office, including stints as Acting Prosecutor, and First Assistant Prosecutor, and previously served as an assistant prosecutor in Atlantic and Cumberland counties. He is a faculty member at the National College of District Attorneys and the NDAA-National Advocacy Center. Mr. Meyer is a graduate of Cook College at Rutgers University, and Vermont Law School. Cumberland County Bar Association Arnold Robinson is a partner in the firm of Robinson & Andujar in Vineland and has been practicing law for over 35 years. He is a past president of the Cumberland County Bar Association, and has been certified by the Supreme Court as a Criminal Trial Attorney. Mr. Robinson s civic pro bono activities include representation of the Delaware Bay Schooner Project and the Shirley Eyes Developmental & Therapeutic Center. He is a graduate of Rutgers University and Temple University School of Law.

2 Essex County Bar Association John M. Bashwiner is a partner in the firm of Bashwiner & Deer in Cedar Grove, where he concentrates on coverage, insurance defense and commercial litigation matters. He is co-chair of the Essex County Bar Association s Professionalism Committee, and in 2009 received the association s General Practice Trial Attorney Achievement Award. Mr. Bashwiner is a member of the Supreme Court s District V-C Fee Arbitration Committee. He is a graduate of Seton Hall University and Seton Hall University School of Law. Gloucester County Bar Association Kathie L. Renner is Of Counsel at the firm of Brown & Connery in Woodbury and concentrates her practice in real estate, land use and commercial litigation. She has also served as prosecutor and solicitor in a number of Gloucester County municipalities. In 2009, Ms. Renner was awarded the E. Henrietta Roesler Award by the Gloucester County Bar Association s Women in the Law Committee. She is co-chair of the association s Red Cross Blood Drive and chair of Robin s Nest, an organization that advocates for children. Hudson County Bar Association Leonard Meyerson is a partner in the firm of Miller, Meyerson, and Corbo in Jersey City. Mr. Meyerson has been practicing law in New Jersey for over 50 years. He is a past president of the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey, and received a distinguished service award from that association in Mr. Meyerson also received an Outstanding Lawyer award from the Hudson County Bar Association and has been active in the Hudson Inn of Court. He is a graduate of New York University and the Georgetown University Law Center. Hunterdon County Bar Association Robert I. Kuchinsky is a partner in the firm of Kuchinsky & Rotunno in Flemington. He has been practicing law in Flemington since Mr. Kuchinsky has served on the Hunterdon County Board of Education, including a term as president. He is a member of the Anti-Defamation League and has served as a member of the Board of Governors for NJ ADL. Mr. Kuchinsky was a Captain the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam right after completing law school. He is a graduate of Rutgers University and Cornell University School of Law. Mercer County Bar Association Franklin L. Flacks is a partner in the firm of Rottkamp and Flacks in Trenton. He has been certified by the Supreme Court as both a Civil trial Attorney and a Criminal Trial Attorney. Following law school he served as an assistant prosecutor in Mercer County. Subsequently, Mr. Flacks was municipal prosecutor for Windsor Township while teaching as an adjunct professor in the Criminal law department at The College of New Jersey. He is a graduate of Ohio University and Syracuse University School of Law. Middlesex County Bar Association Emily A. Kaller is a partner in the firm of Greenbaum Rowe Smith and Davis in Woodbridge and her practice focuses on commercial litigation. She is a past chair of the Women in the Profession Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, and heads her firm s Women s Leadership Forum. Ms. Kaller was appointed by the state Supreme Court as a member of the Committee on Women in the Courts. She is a frequent speaker and seminar panelist on gender bias issues. Ms. Kaller is a graduate of the New School for Social Research and Rutgers University School of Law. Monmouth Bar Association Bette E. Uhrmacher retired as a judge of the Superior Court in 2010, having been on the bench for more than 15 years. She served in the Civil, Family, and Criminal Divisions of Superior Court, and was Presiding Judge of the Criminal Division in the Monmouth Vicinage. Prior to her appointment to the bench, Judge Uhrmacher spent

3 21 years as an Assistant United States Attorney. She is past chair of the Haydn Proctor Inn of Court, and she has recently taught at Rutgers School of Law in Newark. Judge Uhrmacher is a graduate of Simmons College and the University of Texas Law School. Morris County Bar Association Robin C. Bogan is a partner in the firm of Pallarino & Bogan in Morristown. She has been certified by the Supreme Court as a Matrimonial Law Attorney. Ms. Bogan is a trustee of the Morris County Bar Association and co-chairs the association s Family Law Committee. She also serves on the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the NJSBA. Ms. Bogan is a founder of Good Grief, Inc., a charitable organization devoted to helping families deal with the death of a family member. She is a graduate of the University of Richmond and Seton Hall University School of Law. Ocean County Bar Association James D. Clyne served as a Superior Court judge for over 22 years in Ocean County, including periods as Presiding Judge of the Civil Division, and Presiding Judge of the Chancery Division. Upon leaving the bench, Judge Clyne founded Benchmark Resolution Services which offers mediation, arbitration, and complex case management services to the bar and public. He has completed mediation training at Harvard University and the National Judicial College. Judge Clyne is a graduate of Hobart College and Rutgers School of Law. Passaic County Bar Association Kevin P. Harrington is a partner in the firm of Harrington and Lombardi in Wayne where his practice focuses on civil litigation, particularly personal injury defense. He has been certified by the Supreme Court as a Civil Trial Attorney. Mr. Harrington is a past president of the Passaic County Bar Association, past chair of the District XI Fee Arbitration Committee, and is currently a member of the District XI Ethics Committee. He is a frequent lecturer on civil litigation topics for the Institute for Continuing Legal Education. Mr. Harrington is a graduate of Niagara University and New England School of Law. Salem County Bar Association Jean S. Chetney is a solo practitioner in Woodstown. Her practice areas include commercial litigation, criminal and municipal court defense, real estate and wills and estate planning. She has served in a variety of appointed positions for Salem County municipalities including prosecutor, public defender, conflict solicitor and special counsel. Prior to starting her own practice, Ms. Chetney was an Assistant Prosecutor in Salem County and handled sexual assault and child endangerment cases. She is a graduate of the State University of New York- Geneso, and Rutgers university School of Law-Camden. Somerset County Bar Association Paul R. Rizzo is a partner in the firm of DiFrancesco, Bateman, Coley, Yospin Davis & Lehrer in Warren. His practice focuses on civil litigation and matters related to his position as counsel to Raritan Borough. Mr. Rizzo has been certified by the Supreme Court as a Civil Trial Attorney. He is a member, and past chair, of the Somerset County Bar Association s Civil Practice Committee. Mr. Rizzo has served on the District XIII Ethics Committee. He is a graduate of the University of Scranton and Catholic University School of Law. Sussex County Bar Association Robert T. Morgenstern is a partner in the firm of Dolan and Dolan in Newton. He has been certified by the Supreme Court as a Civil Trial Attorney and his practice focuses on civil litigation, land use, and wills and estates. Mr. Morgenstern is a past president of the Sussex County Bar Association and is a member of the District X Ethics Committee. He is active in the Sussex County YMCA and served as its president. Mr. Morgenstern is a graduate of Villanova University and Villanova University School of Law.

4 Union County Bar Association Miriam Span retired as a judge of the Superior Court in 2005 after over 20 years of service. She subsequently returned on recall from 2009 until last September. During her judicial career Judge Spam sat in all trial divisions of Superior Court, including General Equity. Prior to her appointment to the bench, she was in private practice in Union County. Judge Span is a past vice-president of the Union County Bar Association and she has held leadership positions in the Jewish Federation, Temple Emanu-El, and the Westfield Foundation. She is a graduate of Rutgers University and Rutgers School of Law-Newark. Warren County Bar Association Marvin S. Fish is a solo practitioner in Hope. He is a member of the Bioethics Commission of Overlook Hospital and the Healthcare Ethics Commission of Hackettstown Regional Medical Center. He previously served on the faculty of the Seton Hall College of Nursing, the Mountainside Family Practice Residency Program, and Columbia University s graduate School of Nursing. He lectures frequently on elder care, healthcare, and medical malpractice issues. Mr. Fish is currently the Chair of the Hope Tp. Planning Board. He is a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Law School. Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association Edward Sun Kiel is a partner in the firm of Cole Schotz in Hackensack where his practice focuses on commercial litigation in the trial and appellate courts. He is a trustee of the Bergen County Bar Association and he serves on the Supreme Court s Committee on Character. Mr. Kiel received the Trailblazer Award, the highest recognition conferred by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, for his work to promote diversity and inclusion in the legal profession. He is a graduate of Rutgers University and the University of Notre Dame Law School. Association of Black Women Lawyers Lisa Hendricks Richardson is a solo practitioner in Newark. After being admitted to the New Jersey Bar, Ms. Richardson became a staff attorney in the Environmental Law Clinic at Rutgers Law School. She was the managing attorney for Richardson, Powell & Carter, LLC before founding The Law Offices of Lisa Hendricks Richardson. Ms. Richardson currently serves as In-House Counsel at the Rahway Housing Authority and Staff Attorney at the Camden Housing Authority, each on a part-time basis. Ms. Richardson is a past president of the Association of Black Women Lawyers of New Jersey. She is a graduate of Rutgers University School of Law. Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Timothy M Donohue is a partner in the firm of Arleo, Donohue, and Biancamano in West Orange. He focuses his practice on the defense of persons accused of white collar crimes, and has over 25 years of experience in criminal law in state and federal courts. Mr. Donohue has taught legal writing as an adjunct professor at Seton Hall Law School and has lectured to bar groups on trial techniques and grand jury practice. He has also served as a commentator for Court TV, the Associated Press and other media outlets. Mr. Donohue is a graduate of Seton Hall University and Seton Hall University School of Law. Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey Jerry Fitzgerald English is a partner in the firm of Lindabury, McCormick, Estabrook & Cooper in Westfield. Her practice is focused on environmental law. Ms. English is a former Counsel to the Governor, and Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Protection. She has also served as a Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and chaired the Election Law Enforcement Commission. Ms. English is a frequent

5 lecturer on environmental law topics and is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. She is a graduate of Stanford University and Boston College School of Law. Garden State Bar Association Fruqan Mouzon is a partner in Gibbons law firm in Newark. He was Assistant Counsel to Governor John S. Corzine, and since joining Gibbons has litigated matters in state and federal court. Mr. Mouzon is a past president of the Garden State Bar Association, and Chair of the NJSBA s Legislative Committee. He is an adjunct professor at Seton Hall Law School and has taught courses on legal research and writing, New Jersey practice, and professional responsibility. Mr. Mouzon is a graduate of Old Dominion University and Seton Hall University School of Law. Hispanic Bar Association Daniel Mateo is a partner in the firm of Reed Smith in Princeton and focuses his practice on complex commercial matters, in particular clients in the life-sciences industry. He is a past president of the Hispanic Bar Association and serves on the Board of Governors of the Hispanic National Bar Association. Mr. Mateo currently chairs the New Jersey Law Firm Group, a non-profit organization committed to fostering diversity within New Jersey s legal community. He is a graduate of Rutgers University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School. New Jersey Association for Justice Abbott S. Brown is a partner in the firm of Lomurro, Davison, Eastman and Munoz in Freehold. He has been certified by the Supreme Court as a Civil Trial Attorney. He has served on the Board of Governors of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America-NJ and was honored by the association with a Gold Medal for Distinguished Service. Mr. Brown has lectured and written extensively on topics related to medical malpractice and health law. He has taught in Seton Hall Law School s Health Law and Policy Program. Mr. Brown is a graduate of Rutgers College and Rutgers University School of Law-Newark. New Jersey Corporate Counsel Association Valerie J. Camara is Managing Counsel in the Intellectual Property Group at Merck. She is a charter member of Merck s pro bono assistance program which serves as a model for other corporate law departments. Ms. Camara is a past president of the New Jersey Corporate Counsel Association and she has been instrumental in developing two of the association s outreach programs, one for school children in disadvantaged districts, the other for women and children living in domestic violence shelters. She currently serves on the board of Central Jersey Legal Services. Ms. Camara is a graduate of Brooklyn College and Seton Hall University Law School. New Jersey State Bar Association John E. Wallace, Jr. is Counsel to the firm of Brown and Connery in Woodbury. He is a retired justice of the Supreme Court of New Jersey. Justice Wallace s career as a jurist spanned over 25 years from his appointment to Superior Court, elevation to the Appellate Division and confirmation to the Supreme Court in He served on numerous court related committees and has been honored by many legal organizations for his distinguished service and contributions to improving the law and the legal system. He continues to enjoy coaching high school football, as he has for decades. Justice Wallace is a graduate of the University of Delaware and Harvard Law School. New Jersey Women Lawyers Association Randi W. Kochman is a partner in the firm of Cole Schotz in Hackensack, and is Chair of the firm s Employment Law Department. She is the President-Elect of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association. Ms. Kochman in active in the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey as a member of the Steering Committee for its Human Resources Council. She has also been a Barrister in the Sidney Reitman Employment Inn of Court. Ms. Kochman is a graduate of Emory University and George Washington University School of Law.

6 Trial Attorneys of New Jersey Jack L. Lintner is a member of the firm of Norris, McLaughlin and Marcus in Bridgewater. He served for 20 years in the state Superior Court, first as a trial judge in Middlesex County where he was the Presiding Judge of the Civil and Chancery Divisions. In 1999, he was elevated to the Appellate Division and he retired in Judge Lintner published over 100 opinions and served on a number of court committees, including the Supreme Court s Civil Practice Committee. He was honored by the Civil Trial Bar Section of the NJSBA with the McLaughlin professionalism award in Judge Lintner is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He is a graduate of Rutgers University and Washington & Lee School of Law.
