A project focus on decreasing the prevalence of significantly under-diagnosed pre-hypertension and hypertension by improving inaccurate blood pressure measurement in children and adolescents. An integrated systematic literature review implies that no matter how well guidelines are designed, they either fail to reach their intended audience or that significant barrier to their implementation prevent their universal adoption into clinical practice. Part of the under-diagnosis of pre-hypertension and hypertension relates to the complexity and lack of knowledge of the current National High Blood Pressure Education Program (NHBPEP) blood pressure tables. In order to improve the complexity and knowledge of the blood pressure tables, the Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform (T.I.G.E.R.) initiative was used to strategically develop a Smartphone application, Pedia BP. The Pedia BP application design streamlines data from the CDC Development Charts and the NHBPEP blood pressure tables into a single user interface which allows healthcare providers to input data (gender, age, and height) and obtain blood pressure percentage results with therapy recommendations. The efficiency and ease of Pedia BP simplifies the complexity of the blood pressure tables and ensures accuracy of blood pressure percentage results. The short-term goals for Pedia BP consist of incorporating Pedia BP in electronic medical record software and to develop an online toolkit including additional recommendations and training guidelines for healthcare professionals. The online toolkit distribution target market will include health insurance companies and the Department of Human Resources. The long-term goal will focus on the adoption of the online toolkit into the Health Assessment course of nursing curriculums. 3
