3 Sport Studies Program Newsletter Page 3 Expecting Excellence The Sport Studies Program continues to thrive. Initiated in with a group of five majors, the program now typically ranks as one of the most popular degree choices on campus. Upwards of 120 majors currently call the program home. In addition to traditional campus courses and activities, our juniors and seniors also serve as ambassadors for Reinhardt University by representing the institution through internship placements in sport related settings locally, regionally, nationally, and even internationally. Professor Mullins Spring 2015 Each year the program alumni base expands too. At Homecoming in October 2014, we welcomed several graduates back to our first alumni social, and hope to make that gathering an annual event. Hearing from alums is very gratifying for SSP faculty, and a great way for alums to network and stay in touch whether they are starting families, building careers, or simply saying hello. SSP Major Duncan Jones Philips Arena Fall 2014 In , classes visited Philips Arena, Canton YMCA, and the Georgia Dome; students published articles for the Peach State College Sports website, worked a regional high school wrestling meet, and welcomed multiple guest speakers; more than thirty majors completed service learning projects in the fall semester. SSP faculty developed new courses such as Revenue Generation in Sport, Sport in Cinema, Sport Economics, History of the Olympics, and Sport Sales, and jointly presented research on the academic preparation of small-college athletic directors at a national conference, while also participating in various other scholarly endeavors. With our fifteenth anniversary on the near horizon, the SSP continues to expect excellence. Atlanta Sports Media Personality Sam Crenshaw with SSP major Malcolm Anderson Fall 2014
