4 Science and Mathematics Programs Scientists seek to understand how the universe works, and to use that knowledge to improve the human condition. Commonly, the study of science calls to mind the varied pursuits of biologists, chemists, and physicists, but really it encompasses so much more. Most people who practice mathematics for a living are, in fact, scientists. Many are actuaries, statisticians, accountants, and software engineers. In our technologically and scientifically driven world, the pursuit of science and mathematics has never been more attractive, or rewarding. Take some time to see which science and math programs at Purdue Calumet can help you achieve your career goals. Biological Sciences Turn your passion for life into the study of life. The discipline of biology explores a wide range of topics. From the molecular machinery of living cells and microorganisms to animal behavior and ecosystems, the work of biologists continues to advance our understanding and make breakthroughs that affect the world in extraordinary ways. Opportunities for research are supported by state and federal government funding. Our programs prepare students for many professional careers that include: Medical doctor, Dentist, Molecular Biologist, Bioinformatics Specialist, Research Scientist, Ecologist, Environmental Analyst, Medical Technologist, and Emergency Medical Services Specialist. The department of Biological Sciences also offers a program that allows you to complete your BS in Biology and an MS in Biology in as little as 5 years. Ask about our 4+1 program. Physics Physics describes everything around us. Physicists actively identify and apply the basic principles that govern our world. These scientists help develop new superconducting materials for faster computers, apply fluid dynamics to understand the complexities of climate as it changes, and develop and use technology to destroy cancerous tumors without surgery. As a physicist, you might also use your knowledge to design missions to other worlds, develop new theories to explain fundamental particles of matter, the motion of galaxies, and the evolution of the universe itself. Physicists enjoy great variety in their careers because physical elements are at the heart of everything studied by biologists, chemists, and engineers. Careers include the areas of: Astronomy, Biophysics, Computational Modeling, Engineering and Applied Physics, Industrial Research and Development, Medical Physicist, Molecular Electronics and Optics.
