These are listed under ed Responses. A little web searching also turned up additional consultants/fund raisers that are located in or near PA and/or have consulted with PA libraries. These lists are not complete as many other consultants may be available. Neither of these lists implies an endorsement by Commonwealth Libraries. My board was pleased enough with their work. I would suggest being very specific in your RFP for campaign proposals. We received three proposals and they were all very different so it is important that the things that are really important are included for purposes of comparison. The rest is generally just fluff. In addition, I would insist on personal interviews to make sure the board and staff can work with the firms being considered. Campaign Associates did our feasibility study and the campaign itself. Their recommendation was for a goal of $1.5 Million but we raised about $2.3 Million. (Richard C. Miller from Berwick Public Library) Interview face-to-face; look at 2 or 3 different ones. Learn what the specific expectations are of the Board and Director. Will the fundraiser help you get names? What happens to fundraisers costs if schedule lengthens? Is it truly a set fee for their effort or a monthly fee for the duration of the effort? Have they done library fundraising before? Thee amount you need-is it high or low compared to what they typically do? How long have they been in the area? (the longer the better) Check references. Fundraisers must like their job and be professional-- cannot upset potential donor but should also know how to push when needed. Set up a payment schedule to reflect work accomplished. Fees should not be contingent on money raised it s a red flag if the offer is made. Watch your schedule and don't be afraid to adjust your contract as needed.
