Shaikh GUESTS: G. Wallander, C. Jo, K. Pietsch, L. Schulz, J. Dobkin, L. Hall 1. Call to order. The meeting was called to order by A. Horowitz (Acting Chair) at 7:35 a.m. 2. Announcements: A. A. Horowitz (Acting Chair) gave an update on the undergraduate program review schedule. The Physics and Therapeutic Recreation reviews are delayed until fall R. Weber will replace C. Smith as a member of the Social Work review committee. The following reviews are scheduled for the May 8 th meeting: Architectural Studies, Inter-Arts, Nursing, Psychology and Social Work. B. K. Barber announced that the May 8 th meeting will take place in the Regents Room after all since the painting of the room has been delayed. C. S. Kim reported that about a dozen members of the UWM community have responded to the call for suggestions regarding the possible amendment of the Minority Cultural Diversity requirement. Since these comments are quite diverse, he felt that the deliberation of the amendment would require some time. Therefore, the issues will be taken up by the GER/CD subcommittee in the beginning of the next semester, and the comments will be taken into account when the subcommittee convenes. 3. Approval of Agenda: Automatic Consent. A. Horowitz (Acting Chair) asked to have agenda item F.1. moved to item 6.E. under new business. The agenda was declared approved as amended. A. Proposal from the College of Letters and Science for a Change to the History Major - web form # Proposal from the School of Information Studies to Change the Name of the Undergraduate Certificate from Certificate of Library and Information Science to Certificate of Information Studies. 3. Proposal from the College of Letters and Science for a Change to the Sociology Major - web form # Proposal from the College of Letters and Science for Changes to the Journalism and Mass Communication Major - web form # Proposal from the College of Engineering and Applied Science for Changes to the Mechanical Engineering Major - web form # Approval of the Minutes from the March 6, 2001 APCC meeting. S. Emmons moved to approve the minutes; P. Sands seconded the motion. The minutes were UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED.
6 5. Old Business: None 6. New Business: A. Audit and Review of Community Education. J. Merrick presented the review report. S. Emmons moved to approve the report; P. Sands seconded the motion. The report was UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED. B. Proposal from the College of Engineering and Applied Science for Changes to the Civil Engineering Major - web form # T. Holme moved to approve the proposal; D. Buechler seconded the motion. The proposal was UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED. C. Proposal from the School of the Arts for Changes to the Art Major - web form #213 J. Merrick moved to approve the proposal; J. Lilly seconded the motion. A. Horowitz stated he has a problem with the wording in 5 A and B stating a grade of C. The suggestion was made that changing the wording to less than a B- in both places would be better. S. Falco moved to amend the proposal with the new wording; S. Emmons seconded the motion. The amendment and the motion to approve were UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED. D. Report from GER Subcommittee on Proposal to Revise GER/CD Requirements. S. Kim moved to approve the proposal; J. Merrick seconded the motion. It was noted that the motion to approve consists only of Item 1 listed which would decouple cultural diversity from the distribution requirements. Item 2 is only meant to represent the sense of the committee on an implementation issue." Only item 1 will go to the Faculty Senate for approval. The motion was UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED. E. Proposal from the College of Engineering and Applied Science for Changes to the Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering Major - web form # Professor Holme noted that this major has added a very broad option as a technical elective. Such broad requirements may open pathways for students that do not meet the intent of this technical elective requirement. T. Holme moved to approve the proposal; D. Buechler seconded the motion. The motion to approve was UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED. 7. Adjournment. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 a.m.
