5 Reference Guide Reference to this guide will assist you in providing accurate information necessary to process your service request. For further questions or additional information please contact us at and press 3 when prompted. Section A) Key account customers A1) Key account number The account number provided by FortisBC when you applied for Key Account status. A2) Company name/name (signing authority) The name of the applicant or company, who will be the account holder and responsible for the account payment. All construction costs and consumption charges will be billed to this account name. This name must be a full legal entity. For example: James Kenneth Brown, ABC Ltd., or James Kenneth Brown DBA ABC Confection. Section B) Billing information B1) Key account mailing address All bills will be mailed to this address. B2) Contact information These are the contact numbers and address we can use to contact the customer; daytime contact number preferred. Section C) Site contact information C1) Site contact information If the site contact is someone other than the applicant, please provide a name and phone numbers to contact this person. C2) Gas contractor information We require the company name and contact phone number for the gas contractor responsible for the project. C3) Gas fitter name Please provide the name and phone number of the gas fitter who will be performing the work and who can answer specific questions about the installation. Section D) Size of project D) Number of units for this gas application Specify the total number of units for this gas application. For each unit, complete and submit pages 2 and 3 of the application. Section E) Installation address E1) Civic address We require the civic house number and full street name, including Street, Road and Ave., etc., of the installation address. If we do not have both parts of the address we will be unable to process the application. E2) Closest cross street Please provide the name of the street at the nearest intersection. E3) Type of work The type of work will be used to identify specific job requirements. Page 5 of 7
6 E4) Demolition on this site If there was a demolition on the site we can determine if there was a previous gas service on this property, and if so, where that previous service came off the main. E5) Residential building type This will assist the crew in determining what equipment they will need to complete the installation. Please note that a trailer or manufactured home must be on site and ready for installation. Section F) Load information (Your gas fitter is the best source for this information) F1) Gas appliance information In order to determine the proper meter size for your building s consumption, we need to know the type of gas appliances installed and how many of each type. We would also like the total number of BTU s of the appliances. This includes any appliances you plan to add in the future. This will determine the total connected load of your building, which determines the size of your meter. If this information is not provided it will delay the processing of your application. F2) Non-gas appliances Please provide a list of the non-gas appliances that you will be using. Section G) Gas service line and meter location information G1) Delivery pressure information The delivery pressure will determine the size of regulator that is placed on your meter. The regulator reduces the gas pressure in the street to a pressure suitable for appliances inside the building. The delivery pressure will be recommended by your gas contractor, and depends on the type of piping the contractor will use in the building. If this information is not provided it will delay the processing of your application. G2) Inside property line measurement In order for the crew to know how far they will be digging and how much piping to bring to the site, we require the distance from the property line to corner of the building where the meter is to be installed. Note: You will be informed if the gas main is not in the street where your building is addressed from. The gas service line must be kept permanently clear of any above or below ground structures or obstructions (debris, construction materials, etc.). G3) Meter location This section will determine where the meter will be installed against the building. Discuss this location with your gas contractor to determine the best location. The meter location must meet gas code requirements (see attached Single Family Residential - Clearance Requirements diagram on page 4 for details or speak to your gas contractor or Provincial Gas Inspector). The standard location for a gas meter is on the left or right hand side of the home. The standard setback from the corner is 1.5 metres. If you need a setback more than 1.5 metres to meet gas code or for personal preference, excess footage charges will apply. The standard setback is either from the front corner, if the main gas line is running in the street, or from the back corner, if the main gas line is running in a back alley or lane, unless specified otherwise. If the meter is to be placed on the front or back of the building, indicate the measurement from the left or right corner. It is also advised that customers mark the meter location on the building for the crews before they arrive. G4) Other utilities on the site Use the same orientation for determining the meter location in Section G3: Face the building from the street it is addressed from, and indicate where the other utilities are coming onto the property. FortisBC cannot be held responsible for repair costs to damaged facilities if they have not been identified for us, so be sure to stake or expose them by hand prior to the gas service line installation. If there is a septic field or well on the property please mark the location on the application drawing and on site, as the gas service line cannot cross these two services. Page 6 of 7
7 G5) Customer trenching/conduit requirements A trench or conduit with a pull string is required under any retaining walls or alongside a detached garage. Where the estimated service line installation costs exceeds $1,535, customers may be able to reduce their costs by providing their own trench or conduit and pull string. If this applies, please call and press 3 for specifications. G6) Surface cover The predominant type of surface cover will help determine the amount of time a crew will need to complete the job. G7) Additional construction information You must indicate Yes or No to any of the circumstances that the crew must be made aware of. Here are more details to explain some of these circumstances: Meter is near a parking area If the location of the meter will be in or near where cars will be parking, it is important to provide the proper protection to prevent the metres from being inadvertently hit by moving vehicles. Code requires that concrete-filled protection posts be installed. Customers have the option to provide their own protection posts, and you can call FortisBC to request the specifications to do so (an inspection fee will be charged to ensure the posts are adequately constructed). Customers can also have FortisBC install the protection posts and be charged an additional installation fee. Snow/ice protection The following areas are examples of high snowfall areas: Kimberley, Cranbrook, Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford, Revelstoke, Prince George, Mackenzie, Chetwynd, and Whistler. If your area is designated as a high snowfall area, special consideration for the meter location must be taken. The ideal meter location is on the gable end of a building or under a roof area with a large eave overhang. We may do a site check of your meter location and confirm it meets gas code requirements. If these requirements are not adhered to, FortisBC may need to select a new location or require a snow protection shed to safeguard the meter. FortisBC will contact you regarding any charges to your application before installation. Environmental and/or archeological considerations Permits may be required before your gas service can be installed. The crew may need to take special consideration to accommodate any special needs. G8) Preferred installation date Indicate the week you will be ready to have the service installed. The installation site must be at final grade, the building at lock up stage of construction (windows and doors in with the roof on), and the area for the running line clear of all construction materials or debris for the crews to install the gas service line on the property. If the site is not ready, you may be charged an additional fee for the crew to come out again. Note: It is best to submit your application well in advance of your preferred date. Standard scheduling lead times are: Lower Mainland: 3 weeks Interior: 4 weeks Vancouver Island/Sunshine Coast: 4 6 weeks Page 7 of 7
