2 Delivery Methods As a student with Regional Campuses & Distance Education (RCDE), you have several options when it comes to the way you take your courses. The method of delivery varies by class and program, and not all courses are offered in all methods. Check with your degree program to find out how specific courses are offered. Online: Students take online courses through Blackboard Vista following the traditional semester schedule. Students submit assignments online through Blackboard and interact with instructors and classmates via , online discussion, and other online communication. Most of these courses have deadlines for assignments and exams, so it s easy for students to keep up with the work. While students may contact instructors, it s important that students study sufficiently and have the selfmotivation to accomplish the work required, as they do not meet on a regular basis as in a regular face-to-face setting. Hybrid: These courses are typically delivered in an online format using online video communication software such as Adobe Connect (Breeze) or Wimba. While the courses are delivered online students are usually required to participate in hybrid classes at set times. This allows for streaming video and live chat with other students and the instructor in real-time. Some hybrid course are only available to individuals in certain locations or in specific programs. Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC): IVC courses are interactive classes taught in a classroom and broadcast to various locations throughout the state of Utah. Additional classrooms are able to watch video in real-time of the instructor as he or she teaches. Through microphones and camera systems, students in remote sites are able to ask and answer questions and make comments that the instructor is able to answer for all students. The students in the onsite class turn in their assignments to the professor directly, whereas students taking IVC courses from the distance locations must send all their work in to the instructor. IVC courses are great for students who thrive in a traditional classroom and allows for that style of interaction in a local setting. Face-to-Face: These are in-class, traditional higher education courses. Students attend classes and are taught by instructors in person.
