Claims Management Centered On You The goal of Chartis Aerospace Adjustment Services is to work together with our customers to provide an insurance product and professional services that gives our insureds more than just the basics. Claims resolution Our claims staff is trained to focus on resolving claims promptly and effectively with the best interests of our customers in mind. We understand the value of our customers brand name and this concern is carried over to the decision making process regarding the claims resolution and defense strategy. Claims staff The adjusters average more than seventeen years in the insurance industry and more than seven years with Chartis Aerospace Adjustment Services. Our claims staff has authority for resolving claims up to the full policy limit which allows us to make quick decisions on behalf of our clients. Claims department structure The claims branch operations have been organized to provide localized service throughout the United States, Australia and the UK. This structure allows our adjusters to interface directly with our customers and claimants which aids in resolving claims promptly and economically. Claims financial Given the significant financial responsibility with regards to properly evaluating claims, paying appropriate settlements, controlling expenses, and maintaining adequate reserve levels, our goal is to develop relationships with our customers and with the claimants in order to expedite matters. Our philosophy of prompt claims investigations and resolution is designed to control claims costs and expenses. Accident response We strongly believe in a multi-disciplinary response. 5 Home Office - Atlanta, GA Mike Barrett, Esq. Mike is the Global Chief Claims Officer responsible for overseeing the day-to-day worldwide claims operations for Chartis Aerospace Adjustment Services. Mike is also the Team Leader for the Major Accident Go -Team. In this role he has participated in high profile incidents and accidents such as US Airways Flight 1549, British Airways Flight 38 and TAM Flight Prior to joining us, Mike served as Senior Vice President, Director of Claims with Phoenix Aviation Managers from 1999 to 2006, where he supervised all claims personnel, complex litigation, coverage issues, attorney assignment and contract review. From 1981 to 1999, Mike worked for United States Aviation Underwriters in various claims handling and management positions and participated in high profile accidents such as Delta Flight 1288 and ValuJet Flight 592. Mike Barrett, Esq. Global Chief Claims Officer Mike holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Marketing from Arizona State University and a Juris Doctor from Georgia State University. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Florida Bar. Mike also holds a Commercial Pilot s license with over 3,500 hours of flying experience. Betsy Fulton Betsy is the Senior Vice President North American Regional Claims Manager. Betsy joined us in 2006 and is located in the Phoenix, AZ office. She is responsible for overseeing the claims operations in the U.S. and Canada, including Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. She has over thirty years of general aviation claims experience and began her career as a Claims Representative in 1979 with Commercial Aviation Underwriters advancing to Vice President - Claims Manager. In 1991, she joined Continental Aviation Underwriters as Vice President of Aviation Claims until she moved to LAD Aviation, Inc. (CTC Services, Inc.) as Chief Operating Officer responsible for large and complex aviation related hull and liability claims. At CTC, Betsy was also the director of Field Offices as well as the Senior Vice President of Marketing. She was also a member of the Board of Directors at both Continental Aviation and CTC Services/LAD Aviation. Betsy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Paralegal Studies from Pennsylvania State University. Betsy Fulton Senior Vice President North American Regional Claims Manager Phoenix John Bruen, Esq. As Vice President and Claims Attorney, John is responsible for Manufacturing and Product Claim oversight. John received his undergraduate degree from Fordham University and his JD from Pace University School of Law. He was in private practice defending product manufacturers, personal injury cases, asbestos litigation and aviation related insurance defense. John left private practice and joined Global Aerospace to assume the oversight and supervision of the insurance defense of aircraft product manufacturers before becoming the Aviation Claim Director for Willis. He was a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from which he retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. John Bruen, Esq. 6 Home Office - Atlanta, GA Steven D. Allen, Esq. Claims Manager Steven D. Allen, Esq. Steve is the and Claims Manager responsible for the direct handling of claims and litigation involving large specialty accounts, general aviation risks and claims coverage issues. Steve obtained his undergraduate degree from Baylor University, his MBA from the University of New Mexico and his JD from Southern Methodist University. He is a licensed attorney in Texas, New Mexico and South Carolina. Steve was an Instructor Pilot in the U.S. Air Force flying the Northrop T-38 before entering his legal practice specializing in aviation and aerospace matters. He has ten years experience in outside counsel with a large international law firm and as associate general counsel with an aircraft manufacturer. His career includes representation of aviation product manufacturers, aerospace defense firms, airports, cargo operators, airlines, FBOs, aircraft owners and pilots. Garrett Pendleton Airport Claims Manager Garrett Pendleton, Esq. Garrett is the and Airport Claims Manager responsible for the direct oversight and management of all airport claims and lawsuits. Garrett obtained his BS from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he trained as a pilot, and his MBA and JD from Stetson University. A licensed attorney in Florida and Georgia, Garrett practiced law for eight years with large international law firms where he defended and tried a myriad of high stakes aviation, insurance and complex commercial lawsuits in state and federal courts across the United States, as well as in international tribunals. Before entering legal practice, Garrett gained a significant background in aviation during four years active duty in the United States Marine Corps air traffic control operations environment, and subsequently as a civilian engaged in air traffic control operations in support of the National Science Foundation s United States Antarctic Program. He also possesses a range of international experience having lived and worked abroad for many years in Europe, the Middle East, the South Pacific and Antarctica. Chris Watkins, Esq. Vice President Airline Claims Manager Christopher Watkins, Esq. Chris is the Vice President and Airline Claims Manager, and is responsible for the oversight and management of all airline claims and lawsuits. Chris also assumes the role as Environmental/Pollution Claims Manager, assigning and overseeing these difficult claims. He is a member of the Major Accident Go-Team for family assistance and has played an active role in the resolution of claims stemming from US Airways Flight Chris obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor of Arts and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center. Prior to joining Chartis in 2009, Chris practiced law in Texas for ten years defending and trying high exposure and catastrophic personal injury lawsuits involving transportation, medical malpractice, products and premises liability. In addition to his legal experience, Chris has a significant background in aviation and is a third-generation pilot. He holds an Airline Transport Pilot s license and is a former flight and ground instructor and Part 135 charter pilot.
7 Regional Managers Ted Green, CPCU, CAIP Ted is the Vice President and the North American Central Regional Claims Manager located in the Dallas, TX office. He supervises claims in the Chicago and Dallas offices covering the central United States. Previously, Ted was the Vice President, Regional Claims Manager for Phoenix Aviation Managers before assuming his current position. Ted began his insurance career with Prudential Property and Casualty where he investigated and settled property and casualty claims, major structure and catastrophe storm losses. Ted is experienced with a wide variety of claims including turbine engine damage and significant damage to business jet and airliner hulls and multiple fatality accidents. He has been the primary claims contact for large helicopter companies, fixed base operators, business jet operators, regional and major airlines. Ted holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Arizona State University, CPCU and CAIP designations and is an instrument rated private pilot. Ted Green, CPCU, CAIP Vice President North American Central Regional Claims Manager Dallas Jeff Sheets, FCLA Jeff is the Vice President Western Regional Claims Manager located in Los Angeles, CA. He is responsible for the management of the Los Angeles Branch office as well as the Phoenix claims office with a territory of twelve states. Previously Jeff was the AVP Los Angeles Branch Claims Manager and handled hull and liability claims occurring in: California, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Hawaii. Jeff's mechanical background includes work in a machine shop and management of a transmission repair facility. His insurance career began at Farmers Insurance Exchange where for nine years he served a brief stint in underwriting and then several years in claim handling and claim management roles. He supervised a team of eight commercial claims adjusters whose inventory included litigated general liability claims (including personal injury and advertising injury), directors and officers, umbrella, truck, and surety claims. Jeff received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern California College in Costa Mesa, CA and is a licensed private pilot. Jeff Sheets, FCLA Vice President Western Regional Claims Manager Los Angeles Joe Shelby Joe is the Vice President and the Eastern Regional Manager located in New York City. He is responsible for the supervision and management of those claims assigned to the New York and Atlanta, GA offices. Joe started his career with GAB Business Services, an independent adjusting firm, where he held positions at both branch and regional levels over a nine year period. From , he served as the Claims Manager for the Aerospace Northeast Regional office. He then briefly joined Phoenix Aviation Managers, but returned to Chartis Aerospace Adjustment Services after one year. Joe holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Air Commerce from Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne and is a licensed commercial pilot. 8 Claims Managers Robert (Chris) Lundblad Branch Claims Manager Los Angeles Robert (Chris) Lundblad Chris is the Branch Manager of the Los Angeles Aerospace Claims office. He is responsible for the management of the Los Angeles Branch and handling hull and liability claims occurring in: California, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Hawaii. Prior to joining us in 2005, Chris held various claims positions at Farmer's Insurance including Commercial Claims Office Manager, Quality Assurance Manager, Large Loss Zone Manager and Environmental Claims Specialist. He has over 25 years experience in the claims business. Chris received his Bachelor of Arts degree from CSU Chico, a law degree from Western State University in Fullerton, CA and holds a CPCU designation. Seth Magid Branch Claims Manager Phoenix Seth Magid Seth is the Branch Manager of the Phoenix Aerospace Claims office. He is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the Light Aircraft Division claims handled in the U.S. Seth s branch territory consists of seven states. Previously Seth was the Assistant Branch Manager. manages a team of adjusters out of the Phoenix, AZ Claims office that routinely handled hull and liability claims under the LAD division. Having previously worked with Sentry Insurance and Republic Western Insurance, Seth has over ten years of commercial and personal lines claims handling experience. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from West Virginia University and carries a private pilot certificate. Tara Palmer Tara is the Airline Unit Manager, formerly the Claims Unit Manager for Airlines. She is responsible for assisting with the oversight and management of all airline claims. In this capacity Tara has played a key role in the managing and handling of passenger claims stemming from US Airways Flight Tara Palmer Airline Unit Manager Prior to joining Chartis in 2006, Tara was with Delta Air Lines for fourteen years; twelve of which were in the Risk Management Department where she managed and handled all in-house insured liability claims and lawsuits. During this time, Tara was involved in the handling of high profile accidents such as the Delta Flight 1288 MD-88 uncontained engine failure in Pensacola, Florida, and the Delta Flight 554 MD-88 landing accident at New York-LaGuardia. Additionally, she was also involved with Delta s 9/11 litigation. Tara holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia Southern University.
9 Carmen Paul, Esq. Carmen is the General Aviation Severity Claims Director / Coverage and E & O Coordinator responsible for monitoring coverage issues, coverage opinions and policy wording challenges providing a summary to Underwriting for potential wording changes. She was formally the Claims and Litigation Supervisor for large exposure domestic and international aircraft operators, complex litigation, personal injury and premises liability claims and litigations involving FBOs, airports and cargo operators. Previous to that, she worked as a legal intern in the Office of Regional Counsel, Southern Region, for the FAA before becoming an Assistant District Attorney for the Rockdale Judicial Circuit. Carmen has also worked as a Flight Attendant for Atlantic Southeast Airlines. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degrees in Sociology and Speech Communication and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Georgia. She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and a private pilot. Carmen Paul, Esq. General Aviation Severity Claims Director Eric Rank Eric is the Branch Claims Manager for the Southeast located in Atlanta, GA. He is responsible for the management of all hull and liability claims occurring in: Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama and Tennessee. Eric has been with Chartis since December 2003 when he was hired as a Claims Representative in the Scottsdale, Arizona Claims office. He was redeployed to Atlanta in 2007 as a Senior Claims Representative and in 2009 promoted to Claims Specialist, accepting an expanded role in claims handling for the Southeastern United States. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Science Professional Pilot from Parks College of Saint Louis University. Eric is also a licensed commercial pilot in both single and multi-engine aircraft. Eric Rank Branch Claims Manager Atlanta Russ Talbot Russ is the Branch Claims Manager for the Chicago Aerospace Claims office. He is responsible for managing all claims occurring in the Midwest Region: North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Previously, Russ worked for United States Aviation Underwriters in the Midwest handling a wide variety of claims from 1984 to He received his undergraduate degree from Marquette University prior to commencing military service. Upon release from active duty, he obtained his background in airframe and power plant mechanics, and earned his flight ratings through the commercial, multi-engine, and instrument ratings at the University of Illinois (Institute of Aviation). 10 International Richard Powell Vice President, European Regional Claims Manager London Richard Powell Richard is the Vice President, European Regional Claims Manager located in London. Richard is responsible for the oversight of claims in the UK, Europe, and South Africa. Previously, he was the Vice President of Claims, responsible for all claims developing from aviation business serviced by Aerospace, Chartis International, London office, including airlines, products, and general aviation. He has twenty two years of claims handling experience in Europe, the U.S and Internationally. He was also the Chief Claims Officer at Gerling Insurance Company UK for eleven years and held various claims positions with Aegon Insurance Company UK. He is the Chairman of the Legal and Claims Study Group of the International Union of Aviation Insurers from 2010 forward. Colin Campbell Claims Manager London Colin Campbell Colin s duties consist of managing claims for various lines of business. Previously, he served as a Senior Claims Adjuster with Global Aerospace. Colin s career began with Alexander Howden Insurance Brokers as a claims broker dealing with airlines, products and general aviation claims. He then started the claims department at Thomas Miller (Aviation) Ltd., specializing in GA and Alaska risks along with smaller European, Indonesian and Australian airlines. He served as Claims Manager at M.E. Charlesworth Underwriting Agents Syndicate 724, (GA, Alaska risks, balloons, cargo operators) and as Claims Manager at R J Maylam and Others Syndicate 270. Jonathan Woodrow Claims Manager London Jonathan Woodrow Jonathan s responsibilities involve handling claims for many lines of business including satellite and deductible insurance. Previously, he was an aviation claims broker for C.T. Bowring (now Marsh) and later served as Deputy Underwriter for deductible insurance at AXA. Currently, Jonathan is a representative on the UK Flight Safety Committee and a member of the Air Law Association of Australia and New Zealand (ALAANZ). He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII) and is a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society (MRAeS).
