This work have gained the support of the Italian national oil agency ENI-AGIP and most of results have been inserted, with an international partnership, in an important European Project named IMPACT with AEROSPATIAL (France), ESAOTE (Italy), QSW (United Kingdom), SAAB Avionics and the Sweden University KTH. I have designed and developed the following parallel codes (Fortran90 and HPF on MIMD IBM-SP2 platform, a massively parallel computer with 30 RISC 9000 CPUs): Forward propagation of acoustic wave (scalar wave equation) in the 3D space domain (MOD3D). Three-dimensional seismic data backward propagation based on full wave equation with the reverse time migration technique using a Three-diagonal solver as Laplace s numerical solution (RTM3D). This code is an industrial prototype for ENI-AGIP division applied in the field of oil research. A digital image processing library in the field of low level vision (DIP2D): over 50 modules that realize digital processing using morphological operators (binary and gray levels), local operators and contours extractors, frequencies filters (Gabor s filters) and texture analysis. In this work I have implemented a set of modules for the fingerprint classification. High performance computing and applied mathematics thesis: Parallel algorithms for three-dimensional seismic data reverse time inversion.
