The Lord lifts up those w ho are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord! Psalm 146:8-10 Greeting One Another in the Name of Christ Hymn 245 Praise the Lord with the Sound of Trumpet Call to Worship (Based on Psalm 146) One: Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! Many: Let all that is in me praise God s holy name. One: Sing praises to God, today and forevermore. Many: I will praise the Lord as long as I live. One: Blessed are those who turn to the God of Jacob for their help. Many: The Eternal God created he heavens and the earth, One: he it is who feeds the hungry and executes justice throughout the land, Many: he opens the eyes of the blind and restores the sick to wholeness. One: Praise the Lord, O my soul, Many: and bless God s holy name. Opening Prayer Almighty God, you are always present with your people. You walk with us through drought and flood, through the warmth and the cold. Through Jesus, you know what it is to be human, to grieve and to celebrate, to be filled with a mixture of trepidation and thrill. We come here today to worship you. 2 We Listen to God s Word Time with Young People Lord s Prayer Luke 7:11-17 Hymn 579 The Church Is Wherever God s People Scripture 1 Kings 17:8-16 Galatians 1:11-24 Choir Anthem Prayer of Confession Once again, our Scripture readings remind us of God s goodness. Not even starvation or death can interfere with God s plans for creation. All too often, we struggle to hold onto the promises which God makes to us. We do not think that they apply to us. But, they do. We approach God to say sorry for all those times when we have failed to believe and embrace the message that God brings to us. Let us pray together: Source of all that is good in our lives, hear us as we come before you in the name of Jesus Christ to make our confession. We read of your goodness to all that you have created. We witness your care for us daily. We see the beauty which surrounds us. You reach out to us constantly, while we turn away from your love. We do not always do what you command us. We are not always faithful in responding to your call to serve one another. When we turn from you, we suffer and our work does not reflect your glory. Have mercy upon us and forgive us as we seek to serve you better. May our lives reflect fully your majesty and your glory as we seek to serve our neighbours better. Words of Assurance Paul writes: For I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel that was proclaimed by me is not of human origin; for I did not receive it from a human source, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ. The Gospel inherited and taught by Paul is that the Son was sent into the world, not to condemn the world but that all might have new life through him. God s people are an Easter people, people who have been raised into new life. When we confess our sins, we know that we are forgiven, because God is faithful and just and quick to forgive sins. Offertory MV 61 I Praise You, O God Offering Prayer We come before you, Almighty God, bearing our gifts, as signs of gratitude for the promises you fulfil on our behalf. We pray that you will use these gifts, and ourselves, to bless your holy name. Amen. Eucharistic Prayer The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to God. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is only right that we should praise our God. It is not only right, it is our duty and our joy, at all times and in all places to give you thanks and praise, Holy Father, Heavenly King, almighty and eternal God, through Jesus Christ your Son and our Lord. For he is your living Word; through him you have created all things from the beginning, and formed us in your own image. Through him, you have freed us from the slavery of sin, giving him to be born of a woman and to die upon the cross; you raised him from the dead and exalted him so that sits at your right hand on high. 4 Through him, you have sent us your holy and life-giving Spirit, and made us a people for your own possession. Therefore with angels and archangels, and with the whole company of Heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name, forever praising you and saying: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might; Heaven and earth are full of your glory, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest. Accept our praises, Heavenly Father, through your Son, Jesus Christ, and as we follow his example and obey his command, grant that by the power of the Holy Spirit these gifts of bread and wine may be to us his body and his blood. On the same night that he was betrayed, Jesus took bread and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to them, saying: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. Therefore, Heavenly Father, we remember his offering of himself made once for all upon the cross; we proclaim his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension into heaven; we look for the coming of the Kingdom, and with this bread and this cup we make the memorial of Christ your Son, our Lord. Christ is the Bread of Life: When we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your death, Lord Jesus, until you come in glory. Accept through him, our great high priest, this sacrifice of thanks and praise, and as we eat and drink these holy gifts in the presence of your divine majesty, renew us by your Spirit, inspire us with your love, unite us in the body of your Son. 5 and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, with all who stand before you in earth and heaven, we worship you, God Almighty, in songs of everlasting praise: Blessing and honour and glory and power be your forever and ever. Amen. Lord s Prayer sung p.960 Hymn 469 We Gather Here Prayer After Communion Almighty God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your Son. Through him, we offer ourselves to be a living sacrifice. Send us out in the power of the Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen. Closing Hymn 593 Jesu, Jesu, Fill Us with Your Love Blessing In the name of the Father, we are sent on our way to fulfil our calling as servants of God. In the name of the Spirit we are assured that we are never left alone, but that God accompanies us in all we do wherever we end up.
