Entrance into the Novitiate Sisters of Notre Dame
Entrance into the Novitiate Evening Prayer Opening Song God, come to my assistance. -Lord, make haste to help me. Glory to you, Source of all Being, Eternal Word, and Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen. Ant. The Holy One sent Jesus, the Beloved Son, to save us. Psalm 45: 1-9 (Please alternate, left side begin) My heart overflows with words of praise. To the beloved I sing my hymn, my tongue is nimble as the pen of a scribe. You are fair among the people of the earth; graciousness comes from within, for God has blest you forever. Your strength is from the Holy One. In splendor and glory, arise for the cause of truth. Your enemies shall lose heart. All nations shall honor your name. Your heritage shall endure forever. You govern with integrity; you love justice and hate evil.
Therefore, God has anointed you with the oil of gladness; your garments are fragrant with aloes and myrrh. You are greeted with music as all come to welcome you. Beside you, your loved one stands. Glory to you, Source of all Being, Eternal Word, and Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen. Ant. All peoples will praise your Beloved Son, O God. Psalm 45: (Please alternate, left side begin) Listen, O loved one, and hear my words; come from your people and your ancestral home. Your beloved will honor you. All nations shall bring you gifts; they shall seek your favor. You are clothed with glory and splendor, your garments embroidered with spun gold. With great rejoicing enter your new home. Children are assured you; they will govern the earth. May this song make you remembered forever. May all people praise you from age to age.
Glory to you, Source of all Being, Eternal Word, and Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen. Reading: Colossians 1: 9-13 We have been praying for you unceasingly and asking that you attain the full knowledge of God s will, in perfect wisdom and spiritual understanding. Then you will lead a life worthy and pleasing to our God in every way. You will multiply good works of every sort and grow in the knowledge of God. And by the might of God s glory you will be endowed with the strength needed to stand fast and endure joyfully whatever may happen. Thanks be to God for having made you worthy to share in the inheritance of the holy ones in light! God rescued us from the authority of darkness and brought us into the reign of Jesus, God s Only Begotten. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Entrance into the Novitiate of the Sisters of Notre Dame The postulant is called by name and responds Here I am. Leader: What do you ask of the Church and the Sisters of Notre Dame? Postulant: I ask to enter the novitiate of this religious community. All: Thanks be to God.
Testimony regarding the readiness of the postulant to enter the novitiate Leader: N.N., please come forward. Leader: Receive the congregational crucifix. Wear it as a sign of your commitment to Jesus Christ. N.N.: I will wear it in love for Jesus Christ and as an outward sign of my commitment. Leader: Receive the Constitutions of this religious community. May it be a living law of love in following Jesus Christ. N.N.: May these Constitutions help me to live my vocation in the Church according to the charism of our congregation. Leader: As Sisters of Notre Dame, our religious name includes some form of Mary. Your call to religious life is a deepening of your baptism. Your religious name will be and your Nameday will be.
