5 Lent Year A 2017 During Lent, the Gloria is not sung. It is appropriate to place more emphasis on the Penitential Act, so you might consider singing 'Lord have mercy' or 'Kyrie Eleison'. Ps 51 Have Mercy on Us, Lord, Ps 91 When I am Troubled and Ps 130 Out of the Depths are the common psalms for Lent and may be used at any liturgy during the season. For the Gospel Acclamation, 'Praise to you, O Christ our Saviour' is suggested (AOV 28: refrain only). To emphasis the solemnity of the season, 'Our Father' may be sung; the plainchant setting is recommended, unaccompanied. In keeping with the austerity of the season, silence may be observed after communion, or the Recessional hymn may be replaced by silence. 'Alleluia' may not be sung at any time, and any songs which include it should not be used. Hymn Suggestions for March st March Ash Wednesday Year A Let your hearts be broken, not your garments torn.
