This is a platform that has been developed by the publisher of our textbook and integrates the e-book with the homework assignments, the quizzes and multiple learning resources. In addition to preparing the homework assignments and the quizzes in this platform, I encourage you to explore the learning resources that are available there. Each chapter has powerpoints and some videos that may help to reinforce your readings. Additionally, there are Dynamic Study Modules that can be very useful in gauging your understanding of the concepts. These consist of a series of questions that will help you reinforce and retain what you learn. If you have any questions regarding the use of any of these resources, please let me know. 3
4 COURSE ASSIGNMENTS AND GRADING RUBRICS Homework (70 maximum points) The weekly homework assignments are administered through MyAccounting Lab and will incorporate problems from the text covering applicable learning objectives from the chapter readings. As these questions are objective in nature, you will be awarded points based upon your correct answering of the questions. You have an UNLIMITED number of GRADED attempts during the assigned week to finish the homework and achieve full credit. The purpose of the homework is to reinforce the learning objectives. The weekly homework assignments are due by midnight each Saturday during the course. Each homework assignment is worth 10 points. Quizzes (70 maximum points) The weekly quizzes are administered through MyAccounting Lab and will incorporate various question types including: True/false Multiple choice As these questions are objective in nature, you will be awarded points based upon your correct answering of the questions. The weekly quizzes are available each Sunday in MyAccounting Lab from 6:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m.central Standard Time; the quizzes must be submitted by 11:59p.m. for grading. Please make sure you are aware of these requirements. Each quiz is worth 10 points. Excel Problem Set (120 maximum points) During Weeks, Two, Four and Six (the even weeks), a set of homework problems from the text will be assigned. The purpose of this assignment is to practice applying the concepts you are learning in an Excel environment, thereby reinforcing both the accounting concepts and your Excel skills. The problem set should be submitted into Moodle by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. The grading rubric for the Excel Problem Set can be found on Moodle. Each problem set is worth 40 points. 4
5 Discussion (105 maximum points) Each week you will be expected to participate in a discussion forum through Moodle. During Weeks One, Three, Five and Seven the forum will consist of a discussion posted on Moodle. Each participant is expected to post a thoughtful response to the question by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday and then post 2 responses no later than 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. During Weeks Two, Four and Six the forum will consist of an opportunity to collaborate on the Excel Problem Set that is due every other week. Each participant is expected to post a question, insight, concern regarding the problems on the forum and respond in a helpful manner to the posts that are made by their classmates. In this way, each participant should gain a better understanding of the problems that are assigned. All postings are due no later than 11:59 p.m. on Saturday. Please note the difference in due date for these forums. It is so that students will receive any needed feedback prior to the due date for the submission of the Excel Problem Set.
