How To Configure Wireless WAN (WWAN)

1 Applicable Version: onwards (Wireless Series of Cyberoam Appliances only) Overview Wireless WAN is wide area network (WAN) for data that is typically provided by the cellular carriers to transmit a wireless signal over a range of several miles to a mobile device. WWAN connectivity allows a user with a laptop and a WWAN support to use the web, or connect to a VPN from anywhere within the regional boundaries of cellular service. They are popularly known as "wireless broadband". This article describes how you can configure WWAN in Cyberoam. Prerequisites Cyberoam should be deployed in Gateway Mode. USB modems which include functionality that has plug and play software installation or TRU- Install Feature, will require to be disabled before attempting to install the modem on a Cyberoam Appliance. Scenario Configure WWAN in Cyberoam. Configuration You can configure WWAN in Two (2) ways: - Importing Recommended Settings - Manually Importing Recommended Settings This feature is applicable from Cyberoam Firmware version Build 304 onwards. Using this feature, Cyberoam automatically detects settings of any 3G/4G modem that is plugged in, which can then directly be imported into WWAN configurations. You can import settings by following steps given below. Step1: Enable WWAN from CLI Logon to CLI Console (Telnet or SSH) Choose option 4 Cyberoam Console and press Enter Execute the following command console> cyberoam wwan enable

2 Step 2: Connect 3G/4G Modem Connect your Modem to Cyberoam s USB Port. Step 3: Import/Load Recommended Settings Go to Network > Wireless WAN > Settings and click Show Recommended Configuration to view modem settings. The recommended configuration is displayed. Click Load Recommended Configuration to import modem settings.

4 Click Apply to save settings. Note: If SIM PIN is enabled in your Modem, specify the SIM Card PIN Code under General Settings and then click Apply. Step 4: Connect to the Internet Go to Network > Wireless WAN > Status and click Connect to connect to the Internet using plugged-in modem. Manual Configuration You can manually configure WWAN settings by following the steps given below. Step1: Enable WWAN from CLI Logon to CLI Console (Telnet or SSH) Choose option 4 Cyberoam Console and press Enter Execute the following command console> cyberoam wwan enable

5 Step 2: Configure WWAN Settings Go to Network > Wireless WAN > Settings to configure WWAN connection according to parameters given below. Parameters Value Description General Settings Interface Name WWAN1 Specify a name of the interface IP Assignment Connect Reconnect Tries Network Adapter (DHCP) Auto Always Select the IP Assignment method from the available options: Dialup (PPP) Network Adapter (DHCP) Types of Dialing of WWAN connection Select the number attempts allowed to reconnect from the available options. APN airtelgprs.com Specify Access Point Name General Settings Gateway Name WWAN1_GW Gateway IP Address Gateway Type Activate this Gateway Action on Activation Other Settings Backup MTU 1500 MSS 1452 If ANY Gateway fails Inherit weight of the failed active gateway Specify a name to identify the Gateway Specify IP Address of the Gateway Specify Type of Gateway: Active or Backup Select Gateway Activation Condition Configure weight for the backup gateway Specify MTU value (Maximum Transmission Unit) MSS defines the amount of data that can be transmitted in a single TCP packet.

6 Click Apply to save the Wireless WAN settings. Note: - Once WWAN is enabled from Cyberoam Telnet Console, a default interface named WWAN1 is created as a member of the WAN zone. - As WWAN interface is a member of WAN zone: o All the services enabled for the WAN zone from the Appliance Access page are automatically applicable on WWAN1 connection too. o All the firewall rules applied on WAN zone will be applied on WWAN interface. - A default host named ##WWAN1 is created and firewall rule and VPN policies can be created for the default host. - By default, WWAN1 gateway is added as Backup gateway. - When the Wireless WAN is disabled from Cyberoam Telnet Console, Wireless WAN menu, default host ##WWAN1and WWAN gateway options will be removed from Web Admin Console. Step 3: Connect to the Internet Go to Network > Wireless WAN > Status and click Connect to connect to the Internet using plugged-in modem.

7 Note: - High Availability (HA) is not supported when Wireless WAN is enabled. - DHCP Server configuration is not supported for WWAN interface. - If Cyberoam backup is taken from a system where WWAN is enabled and restored on a system where it is not enabled, WWAN configuration would still be visible.
