6 ST. GREGORY THE GREAT CATHOLIC CHURCH PAGE 6 St. Gregory Year of the Ministry During the month of February our ministry of the month is Gardening Ministry St. Gregory s has been very fortunate in having a number of parishioners throughout the years working to keep the flower beds around the Church and at the School Entrance sign so beautiful. Christina de la Garza is our current church gardener. Anyone interested in helping her with planting, watering, weeding, etc. please call the Parish Office. Para mas información llame: Christina de la Garza, Novena to Our Blessed Mother to End Abortion How to say the Novena: Complete each day s meditation and prayer Say one Our Father, One Hail Mary, and One Glory Be Recite the Memorarae. Continued from last week s bulletin. Day 3 For Our Children ~ Mediation: A battle is raging over the souls of our children. Being chaste and pure is presented to our children as only one of many equally viable options for living; an option often ridiculed by the media. Organizations actively obstruct parents efforts to be involved in essential decisions in the lives of their children. Whether for cigarettes, birth control devices or abortions, our children are seen as market opportunities. Prayer: O Mary, Mother of the Son of God, you know well the love your Son had for little children. Accept our prayers and unite them with your own and use these prayers to crush the head of the serpent who is waiting to devour our children and separate them from your Son. (Continue with the daily prayers shown above) Day 4 For Girls and Women ~ Meditation: Genesis declares that men and women were both created in God s image. To celebrate what is feminine and the unique role of girls and women in giving and sustaining life brings honor to both God and womankind. Abortion denies this reflection of God in girls and women. So does immodesty, pornography and other activities which exploit girls and women. Prayer: O Mary, Mother most Pure, accept our prayers for girls and women. Help girls and women to see God s image more clearly in their femininity. Ask your Son for special graces for girls and women so that they may remain modest in dress and action. (Continue with the daily prayers shown above) Day 5 For Boys and Men ~ Meditation: Boys and men, too, were made in God s image and thus what is truly masculine is also a reflection of a wonderful God. However, there are boys and men who have a false masculinity which exalts lust and conquest, unfaithfulness and callousness, irresponsibility and deceit. The magnitude of the abortion tragedy is a direct result. No greater gains can be made in ending abortion than embracing true masculinity. Prayer: O Mary, most chaste wife of St. Joseph, accept our prayers for boys and men. Help them to see in St. Joseph a model of true masculinity. Ask your Son for the grace to help boys and men lead pure and holy lives and to avoid temptations of the flesh. (Continue with the daily prayers shown above) Day 6 For Families ~ Meditation: In God s loving plan of salvation families were entrusted with the special responsibility of brining new life into the world. God s gift of human sexuality as well as a husband s and wife s love for each other become an invitation to be co-creators, with God, in new life. The use of artificial contraception is a rude rejection of this invitation. Using God s gift of human sexuality outside of marriage is a rejection of his plan of salvation. Both lead, inevitably, to rejection of new life itself in abortion. Prayer: O Mary, Queen of Families, it was through your intercession at the wedding feast at Cana that your Son s public ministry began. Accept our prayers for families. Intercede for us with your Son and ask for the graces we need to use our human sexuality only in ways which bring honor and glory to God. (Continue with the daily prayers shown above) Printed with the Ecclesiastical Approval of: Most Reverend John J. Myers, Bishop of Peoria, April 22, 1997 To be Continued.

7 ST. GREGORY THE GREAT CATHOLIC CHURCH PAGE 7 ST. GREGORY THE GREAT CATHOLIC SCHOOL NEWS Office hours 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (210) Class News from Ms. Floyd s 5th Grade Class Dear Parishioners, Family, Friends and Visitors, The school year is flying by! In 5th grade we are busy learning the 3 R s and G: Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, and God. All 5th graders are anxiously awaiting our special 5th Grade Mass with Archbishop Gustavo. Each year Archbishop Gustavo invites all 5th graders from each school in the Archdiocese to a special Mass and this year we will be travelling once again to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church for this very special Mass. The bus is booked, the permission slips are all turned in, and now we anxiously await the arrival of the 28th of February! Ms. Floyd s reading class has just begun reading Belle Prater s Boy after a study of summarization. We are getting to the most exciting part of the book, and it is getting harder and harder to put our books down! In addition to our novel, each of us is getting closer to our 10 point AR reading goal, and many of us are on a path to doubling our goals. The big question is: Will Ms. Floyd be able to double her reading goal once again?? Keeping us with 5th grade readers is certainly keeping Ms. Floyd challenged. Ms. Floyd s math classes are learning to work with decimal numbers as we head toward fractions! Most students learn to move the decimal in decimal multiplication, but in Ms. Floyd s class, students learn a new dance step: The Decimal Boogie! Who ever said decimals were boring must not have learned the correct way to boogie. Fractions scare some students, but in Ms. Floyd s class we are ready for the challenge! Ms. Floyd assures us the 2/3 of 9/10 of the entire population just love fractions! (Ha! Ha!) Ms. Floyd challenged each student to outnumber Mrs. Zertuche s class in December for the St. Vincent De Paul food drive. Ms. Floyd bet the students a sweet treat for winning, and if we won big, Ms. Floyd said she would wear a Longhorn shirt when we returned from Christmas vacation. Well, we met Ms. Floyd s challenge, and then some, so if you noticed Ms. Floyd wearing a Longhorn t-shirt on January 3rd now you know why. Ms. Floyd s homeroom recently celebrated the 100th Day of School by having a 100 item food drive in our homeroom. Working together, the class met the goal and we were able to deliver 100 additional items to St. Vincent De Paul. Ms. Floyd s 5th Grade class wants to thank each of you for your love and support of our GREAT school. With Father Rudy as our spiritual leader, Mr. Martinez as our school leader and the loyal support of our parishioners we know we are each destined to do GREAT things in the name of God because of the role models we have in our lives each day. Without our parishioner support, we know it would be very difficult for our school to carry on our mission of a Catholic education for each student. Peace and blessings, Ms. Julie Floyd s 5th Grade Class Sea Word San Antonio Run for the Fund March 25, 2017: 8am 10am We are so excited to announce an awesome opportunity with Sea World San Antonio. They are hosting a "Run for the Fund" 5K and Family Walk with proceeds benefitting the Conservation Society.
