1 If you really want to become wise, you must begin by having respect for the Lord. To know the Holy One is to gain understanding. Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles. Kind words are like honey. They are sweet to the spirit and bring healing to the body. He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent (wise) son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son. Foolish people let their anger run wild. But wise people keep themselves under control. The words of thoughtless people cut like swords. But the tongue of wise people brings healing. The Lord hates those whose lips tell lies. But he is pleased with people who tell the truth. A wise son pays attention to what his father teaches him. But anyone who makes fun of others doesn t listen to warnings.

2 A peaceful heart gives life to the body. Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done. But jealousy rots the bones. Whoever scorns instruction will pay for it, but whoever respects a command is rewarded. Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. Don t say, I ll get even with you for the wrong you did to me! Wait for the Lord, and he will make things right for you. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;
