10 est dministrators uide inal xams tudents currently instructed on the xtended ontent tandards who, according to their ndividualized ducation rograms (s), participate in the alternate assessments are exempt from the inal xams. tudents identified as who score below evel. xpanding on the reading subtest of the lacement est (- ) and are in their first year in.. schools are exempt from the inal xams for nglish, nglish, and nglish. tudents taking a course for credit recovery are exempt from the inal xams. tudents enrolled in online courses taught by persons not employed by the school district (e.g., student enrolled in an early college course taught by a college professor) are exempt from the inal xams. tudents enrolled in courses through the orth arolina irtual ublic chools () are exempt from the inal xams. harter schools that do not receive ace to the op funds do not have to participate in the inal xams; however, the final exams must be administered by teachers whom a charter school plans to recommend for licensure. n rare cases, students may be medically fragile because of a significant medical emergency and/or condition and are unable to participate in a specific test administration. hese students may be granted a medical exception for the inal xams. t is a local decision as to how requests for medical exceptions are to be processed. edical exceptions for final exams are to be sent to the orth arolina epartment of ublic nstruction (). owever, if a student has been granted a medical exception by the for the current school year s testing window(s), it may be extended to include the inal xams at the discretion of the. esting indow for the inal xams est administrators must administer the inal xams during the last five days (x/semester courses) or the last ten days (traditional yearlong schedule) of the instructional period (tate oard policy --). or school systems that were required to adjust their school schedules because of adverse weather conditions or other emergencies, the testing schedule should be adjusted to fall within the final five days (x/semester) or last ten days (yearlong) of the adjusted school year. akeup esting ny student absent (i.e., not present) for the test administration must make up the test. he test coordinator will specify how makeup tests are to be handled at the school and will schedule dates and times for completing makeup tests in each school so that all makeups are completed within the five-day (semester) or ten-day (yearlong) testing window. etesting o retests are permitted for the inal xams unless a misadministration is declared. age

12 est dministrators uide inal xams or additional information on accommodations and guidelines for testing students identified as limited nglish proficient, refer to the uidelines for esting tudents dentified as imited nglish roficient publication and any supplements or updates. he publications are available through the local school system or at inal xam dministration aterials he inal xams are available from the orth arolina epartment of ublic nstruction () only in paper-and-pencil format. he superintendent or superintendent s designee, usually the test coordinator, is responsible for ensuring all inal xam test materials are ordered properly from the esting ews etwork () ordering page. ote: rders will not be prepopulated. nswer heets here are three different answer sheets available for the administration of the inal xams (see ppendices,, and ). ach of the three answer sheets will be a different color. ll of the test books will have a color tab on the side binding of the front cover that matches an answer sheet color. o ensure students receive the correct answer sheet and test book on test day, the color of the answer sheet and the color tab on the test book cover must match.. nglish nly nswer heet he nglish anguage rts inal xam consists of both multiple-choice and performance items. he performance items are located throughout the nglish anguage rts inal xam. o prevent students from incorrectly bubbling in their answers as they move back and forth between the multiple-choice items and the performance tasks, the performance tasks are identified in the multiple-choice section of the answer sheet with the word. hen students see the word, they must record their answer for the performance item on the appropriate lines located beneath the multiple-choice section.. ultiple-hoice nswer heet his answer sheet is designated for all inal xams that have only multiple-choice items. he total number of multiple-choice items varies for the final exams. herefore, students should bubble in responses only for the question numbers that appear in the assessment and should leave the remaining unused bubbles blank. inal xams that require the multiple-choice answer sheet include the following: inal xams equiring the ultiple-hoice nswer heet nglish anguage rts hysical cience nglish anguage rts rade cience ommon ore lgebra rade cience ommon ore eometry rade cience ommon ore ntegrated ath rade ocial tudies dvanced unctions in odeling rade ocial tudies recalculus rade ocial tudies iscrete athematics rade ocial tudies arth/nvironmental cience.. istory eometry lgebra age

13 est dministrators uide inal xams. ultiple-hoice and onstructed esponse nswer heet his answer sheet has two sections. tudents record their answers to multiple-choice items in the top section of the answer sheet and record their responses to the constructed response items on the lines on the bottom section of the answer sheet. he total number of multiple-choice and constructed response items varies for the final exams. inal xams that require the multiplechoice and constructed response answer sheet include the following: inal xams equiring the ultiple-hoice and onstructed esponse nswer heet ath merican istory ath ivics and conomics hemistry rade ocial tudies hysics orld istory merican istory recoding tudent nswer heets he information on of the student answer sheet must be precoded before testing. he answer sheets must be precoded by the test coordinator, school test coordinator, or the principal s designee on days before the inal xam administration (i.e., students must not code the answer sheets before testing). tudents and test administrators must not change, alter, or erase precoding on students answer sheets. he test administrator should provide all corrections for precoded responses to the principal or the school test coordinator. he test administrator must accurately print and code the appropriate test code on of each student s answer sheet for scoring and reporting purposes. complete list of test codes is found in ppendix. harter chools and nswer heets echnical utreach for ublic chools () will precode answer sheets and ship them to charter schools participating in the inal xams. abels for the return of the final exam answer sheets to for scoring will be included with the shipment. fter testing, the charter school test coordinator must use the provided shipping labels to send all inal xam answer sheets to be scored back to via. he charter school test coordinator must return only the final exam answer sheets to be scored. will score the answer sheets and transfer the files to ccountability. omplete ist of equired esting aterials he following chart lists the materials required for all inal xams. n addition to the required testing materials listed in the chart, test administrators will need an accurate timing device that does not make noise or sound an alarm. he following supplemental materials are approved for use on the inal xams for students who routinely use them in the classroom: olor acetate overlays ighlighters age

16 est dministrators uide alculators that use a (typewriter-style) keyboard alculators that use paper tape inal xams he following list includes calculators not permitted for use on the inal xams. he list is not all-inclusive. f the school system test coordinator believes calculator brands other than those listed below may need to be restricted, he/she must contact the regional accountability coordinator () for clearance before allowing their use. exas nstruments: ll model numbers that begin with - or -; oyage ; -pire ewlett-ackard: hp and all model numbers that begin with hp, hp, or hp asio: lgebra fx., lassad, and all model numbers that begin with - exas nstruments -spire calculators without are allowed only in the following two cases: () with the - lus keypad or () with the spire keypad using operating system. or higher with both limit geometry functions and disable function grab and move invoked in ress-to- est mode. efore beginning and immediately following an inal xam that requires calculator use, the test administrator or principal s designee must clear the calculator memory and all applications (including preloaded) of all calculators that will be used during each administration of the test. nly the test administrator or principal s designee is permitted to carry out this procedure. tudents may use their personal calculators for the inal xams. owever, they must be informed that if they use their personal calculators, the calculator memory and all applications (including preloaded) must be cleared before and after the test administration. tudents who still wish to use their own calculators must be told before the assessment day to back up all data and programs that they wish to save. fter the test administration, the test administrator or principal s designee should enable the memory and applications of the students calculators. esting ode of thics he orth arolina esting ode of thics (--) applies to the administration of all inal xams. efore the test administration, test administrators must read and study the esting ode of thics. he esting ode of thics addresses appropriate professional practices for central office and school administrators, test coordinators, teachers (test administrators), and proctors in the areas of securing tests; administering tests; and scoring, reporting, and interpreting test results. he sanctions for violations included in the esting ode of thics are applicable to the administration of the final exams. copy of the esting ode of thics is found in ppendix of this guide. est ecurity he principal shall account for all test materials and shall ensure test security within the school building. ll inal xam test administrators and proctors must receive training from the or school test coordinator before they administer or proctor an exam. he importance of maintaining test security at all times must be stressed. age

17 est dministrators uide inal xams opying ecure est aterials ecure tests, including all test materials and test questions, must not be reproduced in any manner. ecure tests must not be copied, filed, or used directly in instructional activities. o person may copy, reproduce, or paraphrase the test materials in any manner for any reason without the prior written consent of the ivision of ccountability ervices/orth arolina esting rogram. lassroom nstruction and/or tudy uides xcerpts from the tests must not be used at any time during classroom instruction or in resource materials such as study guides. nstructional materials that contain sample test questions (whether generated locally or obtained from another school system) must be shared with the principal and school system test coordinator before use. eachers are not permitted to discuss specific items from the tests with students or colleagues before, during, or after the test administration or ask students which test questions were difficult. isplays isplaying information regarding content being measured or test-taking strategies (e.g., ips for aking ests, displays, word lists, word walls, definitions, writing formulas, multiplication tables, mathematical formulas/theorems) in any manner or form in the room during a test administration will result in a misadministration. hese displays must be covered or removed. ailure to cover or remove such displays during a test administration is considered a violation of the esting ode of thics. esting nvironment ll rooms designated for testing must be quiet, orderly, comfortable, and have adequate lighting. eating must be arranged to discourage students from sharing responses. ccounting for and toring est aterials he test administrator must count and record the number of secure test materials and supplemental materials o when the materials are first received; o before the distribution of materials to students; o after the test administration; and o when the materials are returned to the school test coordinator. he test administrator must immediately report any discrepancies in the count to the school test coordinator/principal. age

18 est dministrators uide inal xams est materials must not be left unattended by the test administrator at any time. mmediately after the test administration, the test administrator must return all testing materials to the school test coordinator according to the directions specified in the ssessment uide. he school test coordinator shall collect, count, and return all test materials to the secure, locked facility. ccess to ecure ssessments ccess to the tests shall be limited to school personnel who have a legitimate need. chool personnel must not disclose the contents of the tests nor discuss with each other or with students specific test questions or information contained within the test(s). isitors to the classroom are prohibited during the test administration except when required for state or local monitoring of test administrations or under extreme circumstances (i.e., emergency situations). ead loud or igning/ueing dministrations est administrators who provide read aloud or signing/cueing administrations have the added responsibility of maintaining confidentiality because of the access they are granted for these types of accommodations. t is strictly prohibited for test administrators who give these administrations to divulge the contents of the assessment, generally or specifically, to anyone or to copy or record test items. roctors roctors may not assist students in choosing responses to test questions and shall not, at any time, modify, change, alter, or tamper with student responses to test questions. t no time shall proctors be alone with secure test materials. t no time shall proctors be responsible for reading directions or test questions, or otherwise providing information for the test administration to students. roctors must not pick up test materials from or return test materials to the school test coordinator at the beginning or the end of testing unless accompanied by the appropriate school personnel. election of est dministrators and roctors he selection of test administrators and proctors for all inal xams must adhere to the following conditions: election of est dministrators f the test administrator is the teacher who teaches the students in the subject/course of the inal xam being administered (i.e., teacher of record), then two adults (i.e., the teacher and a proctor) must be present throughout the test administration. age

20 est dministrators uide inal xams tudent mergencies and reaks ll students should have an opportunity to use the restroom before beginning an inal xam. f a student must leave the room during the test administration because of an emergency (i.e., becoming ill or requiring a visit to the restroom) the student must be accommodated. ll test materials must remain in the room. f a student needs a restroom break during testing, the orth arolina epartment of ublic nstruction () recommends the following procedures be followed: o the extent possible, only one student at a time should be excused to the restroom. he student s test materials should be secured (i.e., the answer sheet and blank/graph paper should be placed inside the test book as a place holder and the test book closed). he test administrator should note the time the student left the room to ensure the student has the allotted time to complete the test upon return. f necessary, an appropriate member of the school staff may accompany the student to the restroom. eporting esting rregularities he test administrator or proctor must report any alleged testing violation or testing irregularity to the school test coordinator on the day of the occurrence. he school test coordinator must contact the test coordinator immediately with any allegation of a testing violation. he school test coordinator must then conduct a thorough investigation and complete the eport of esting rregularity provided through the nline esting rregularity ubmission ystem (). (lease note that persons reporting irregularities on must first receive training and a password from the test coordinator.) he irregularity report must be submitted to the school system test coordinator within five days of the test administration. ifferent incidents must be documented on separate reports of testing irregularities even when the incidents occur during the same test administration in the same room. or example, if one student is disruptive during testing and another student becomes ill during the administration of the test, two separate reports of testing irregularity must be filed on. f the superintendent or school system test coordinator declares a misadministration, the misadministration must be documented and reported using appropriate procedures outlined in. xamples of testing irregularities include, but are not limited to ligibility ssues: ailing to test all eligible students (tate oard of ducation policy --) dministering tests to ineligible students ccommodation ssues: roviding accommodations to students who are not eligible to receive them ailing to provide approved accommodations to the appropriate students ailing to follow appropriate procedures for providing testing accommodations age
