Consider the following categories on what you should do for Advent 1. Voluntary amendment of Life: Give up those things that you need to give up sooner or later, namely bad habits. Your goal here is to break a bad habit forever and Advent is a good time to do it. Love your soul more than your body! Examples: Gossiping, surfing the internet without real need, watching tv, overeating, eating between meals, eating and drinking junk foods, bad drinking habits, complaining, saying vulgar words, not getting up on time, using a snooze alarm. Wasting time playing video games, going to the movies, listening to bad music, useless chattering on facebook, blogs etc. 2. Acts of Penance: Perform some kind of penance. Your goal is to train yourself to say no in little things so you can say no to big temptations later. You may resume doing the things you have given up here once Advent is over. Love your soul more than your body! Examples: Avoid eating or drinking something that you enjoy such as deserts, Give up eating out, taking hot showers, drinking alcoholic beverages etc 3. Works of Charity: Perform some good and holy action/s. Your goal here is to strengthen your relationship with Christ and His beloved CHURCH. Ideally what you start here would continue in some way even after Advent is over. Love God more than yourself! Examples: Pray the rosary every day, attend Mass as often as it is available to us here in Townsville, read the Sacred Scriptures for so many minutes per day, spend additional time every day with your family, read a life of a saint or saints, increase spiritual reading, make a daily/weekly visit to the Most Blessed Sacrament or some shrine of Our Lady 3

4 ; St Anne s Oratory December, 2016 First Fridays and Saturdays First Friday Promises (commonly called the 12 promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus ) 1. I will give them all of the graces necessary for their state of life. 2. I will establish peace in their houses. 3. I will comfort them in all their afflictions. 4. I will be their strength during life and above all during death. 5. I will bestow a large blessing upon all their undertakings. 6. Sinners shall find in My Heart the source and the infinite ocean of mercy. 7. Tepid souls shall grow fervent. 8. Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection. 9. I will bless every place where a picture of my heart shall be set up and honored. 10. I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts. 11. Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be blotted out. 12. I promise you in the excessive mercy of My Heart that My all-powerful love will grant to all those who communicate on the First Friday in nine consecutive months the grace of final penitence; they shall not die in My disgrace nor without receiving their sacraments; My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment. To obtain these promises, you simply need to attend Mass and receive Communion for nine consecutive first Fridays (of each month). First Saturday Devotions At Fatima Our Lady s requested The Five First Saturdays Devotion. She asks us to do the following with the intention of making reparation to Her Immaculate Heart on the first Saturdays of five consecutive months: 1. Go to Confession; 2. Receive Holy Communion; 3. Recite five decades of the Rosary 4. Comply with Her when She said: keep Me company, by spending 15 minutes meditating on the Mysteries of the Rosary (this is an additional 15 minutes meditation after having recited the Rosary) Link to a short but full explanation of the First Five Saturday Devotion via the Fatima Centre link below. 4
