3 INTRODUCTION The purpose of this reference guide is to assist customers and sales people during the sales discussion process and when completing the Omni-ID Tag Service Bureau Form, which is intended to capture the customers encoding and printing requirements. Tag commissioning utilizing a standard label is designed to be used as a menu card system. This means that the customer has the choice of a limited number of commonly used barcode symbologies and can input data that is specific to their application. The combination of print and barcode samples shown on this document are by definition standard service bureau options. Any combination that is not shown, or referenced in the barcode options summary table, is by definition a custom label design. The styling of the standard label designs in this document are intended as a guide and within reason layouts and fonts can be considered as dynamic. Final approval should always be sought from the customer prior to any production run, and OIDC should provide an accurate sample (either physical or a drawing) to seek approval. LABEL MATERIAL OPTIONS Omni-ID s Standard Service Bureau printing is offered with a rugged synthetic label stock as standard. Product type Hard tag (individual tags) IQ labels (reel loaded) Label description 99µ white PET decorative label CHIP ENCODING OPTIONS H3 & MR6 - The Omni-ID tag commissioning service programs data into the 96bit EPC section of the memory. This 96bits allows 24 hexadecimal characters to be programmed into the chip. Omni-ID also allows decimal sequencing of these 24 characters if required. M4QT - The Omni-ID tag commissioning service programs data into the 128bit EPC section of the memory. This 128bits allows 32 hexadecimal characters to be programmed into the chip. Omni-ID also allows decimal sequencing of these 32 characters if required. Page 3

4 HEXADECIMAL SEQUENCING Hexadecimal sequencing utilizes an extension of the regular 0-9 numbering system so that more data can be stored on a chip using less characters. In the case of Hexadecimal, the sequencing includes 0-9 then A-F, before returning to 0. It is important to ensure that the 2 numbering sequences are not mixed together; the simplest way to ensure this does not happen is to specify the start and end data for a sequence, and then cross reference with the total number of tags. Hexadecimal sequencing is best illustrated as a worked example: Decimal Hexadecimal representation A 11 B 12 C 13 D 14 E 15 F The EPC memory allocation allows the customer to specify data which is compliant with global standards such as DoD-96, GIAI-96, GID-96, GRAI-96, SGLN-96, SGTIN-96, and SSCC-96. This is of particular relevance when tags are being supplied into solutions already using RFID, or in open supply chain scenarios where interoperability between parties is required. Page 4

5 Important Note: Omni-ID provides the ability to encode the tag data to meet these standards but is not responsible for specifying compliant data sequences; it is the customer s responsibility to ensure compliance by providing a suitable start and end number to the programming sequence. Customers should contact EPC global or GS1 if they have questions regarding data compliance. The EPC global standards utilise a template approach to the data sequence, examples are provided below:- GID-96bit example: (General Identifier) Header General Manager Number Object Class Serial Number Data (bits) Number of Hexadecimal characters DoD 96bit example: (US Department of Defence) Header Filter Government Serial Number managed identifier Data (bits) Number of Hexadecimal characters GIAI-96 example: (Global Individual Asset Identifier) Header Filter Partition Company Prefix Individual Asset Reference Data (bits) Number of Hexadecimal characters See table below for values Filter Values GIAI Partition Table Type Binary value Partition value Company Prefix Individual Asset Reference All Others 000 Bits Digits Bits Digits Reserved Reserved Reserved Reserved Reserved Reserved Reserved Page 5
