Book Report Fun Pack 2! Includes 4 FUN Book Report PROJECTS Comic - Timeline - PopUp Book - Billboard Comic Book PopUp Book Timeline Billboard
Timeline Hands-On Activity Brings out the fun in writing! The Unlimited Timeline The only timeline you ll ever need! The possibilities are endless
Timeline Ideas Here are just a few ideas of how this versatile timeline can be used. All concepts won t apply to every story, so you need to identify the skill or skills you want to focus on depending on what you are reading. Sequencing events This timeline can be used to sequence story events, historical events, or even major events in a famous person or character s life. Cause and effect Another concept that can be displayed on the timeline is cause and effect. The students can demonstrate the cause and effect relationship within the story they are reading by putting the cause above and effect below on the horizontal timeline or left to right on the vertical the timeline. Problem and Solution Similar to cause and effect, students can also identify the problem and solution elements in the story and display them on the timeline showing the relationship between the two. Character Cards Students can also identify character traits in the story of a single or multiple characters. The timeline can also show how a character changes over time. Simile/Metaphor Figurative language found in the text can also be shown on the timeline identifying the comparison between two things, either using like or as or saying something is something else. Different settings throughout the story The timeline can also be used to show descriptions of the settings in the story and how they change over time
Main events - date and times The story s plot can be arranged on the timeline even showing visually the highpoint of the story decreasing down to the resolution. Picture/writing timeline This timeline is adaptable to many different grades and can be used with illustrations only, text, or with both. Vertical/horizontal The orientation of the timeline can be either vertical or horizontal helping kids visually make the connection to math as well. Important Dates and People Social Studies and Science Multiple subjects can applied to the timeline. Important events from both Social Studies and Science can be displayed. Timeline of School Year Another fun activity can be a timeline of the entire school year. Students can keep a record of the important events that have happened each month of the school and make a timeline at the end of the year as a memory of their year in that grade. Laminate to be reused year after year Laminated timelines can be used over and over with students placing the boxes on the timeline, rather than gluing or taping them. Different size boxes with lines and without lines The timeline comes with different variations of boxes to be used, including lined, unlined, small or big. Simply giving students a creative way of displaying what they know using this timeline will get them completely engaged in the activity!
Student Assignment Sheet You will need: 1 Title Page 3 Sections of the Timeline Template 1 or 2 Sheets of box template Paper to mount the timeline on (Poster Board or Construction Paper) Glue, crayons, markers, and/or colored pencils 1. Glue the 3 sections of the timeline to the mounting paper 2. Use the template to plan your timeline (whole group or individually generated ideas) 3. Fill in each box to complete your timeline 4. Include illustrations for your timeline 5. Arrange the boxes on the timeline in order 6. Peer check the order of the cards on the timeline 7. Glue down boxes. 8. Complete the title page and glue down the title page to the timeline. 9. Use the rubric to check your timeline
Brainstorming Templates
Photo Gallery of Student Samples Hang them vertically!! These hanging timelines are biographies of famous artists. Important dates and events are sequenced in order. Stand them up!! This timeline book report summarizes By the Great Hornspoon written by Sid Fleischman. The paper was washed with a tea leaf stain to give it an aged appearance. Display them on a wall!! This story is from our reading series anthology. The concept was Problem and Solution.
Mix and Match the Boxes to Suit Your Needs
Vertical Timeline to Show Chronological Order Students used books from our school library to write their report on an artist s life. The timeline was mounted on poster board and then holepunched on the top and bottom. Book rings hold the timeline together and are hung from hooks. These can also be hung from the ceiling for a more interesting display.

Horizontal Timeline for Bulletin Boards Concept: Problem and Solution Students start brainstorming using the Problem Solution Template. Then transfer their ideas into the boxes. Students mount their timeline on construction paper and glue down the problem and solution boxes. I had them glue the problem and solution in the order of appearance in the story.

Stand-Up Your Timeline on Bookcases The paper was given an aged look by rubbing wet tea bags.
Students decorated the timeline with the setting of the book before gluing down the summary boxes.
Sequencing of Events Template Use this worksheet to list the events. Select the most important events for your timeline

Book Report Ideas Create a Billboard Book Report Includes billboard templates, billboard assignment ideas, billboard rubric, writing rubric, self-assessment score sheet, and photos of samples! Easy to place around the classroom!
Billboard Book Report Ideas The goal for this Book Report is to create an exciting advertisement that catches the eye. It must make other students want to read your book! Using the templates, here are some Language Arts standards that the student can use to advertise their book. -Include a catchy phrase -Poster advertising this awesome book! - Create props from the book and attach to your billboard or place on top for a 3D effect. -An exciting introduction -Summary -Compare and contrast between characters/settings -Favorite scene -Character Profile -Exciting events that occurred in the book -Sequel to the book -Vocabulary word assignment Ex. Puzzle or Quiz using Vocabulary Words -Cause and Effect -Advertisements related to parts of the story. -Comic strip related to the story - A critic s reviews and/or comments about the book
Directions 1. Give each student templates for their Billboard. (front and back) The front side of the Billboard must be the main advertisement that needs to stand out to the passer by. Use template 1. 2.The back side of the board will include more of the information about the book. Use template Make a list of all the required elements of the billboard and let the students decide where to put each part on their billboard. 4. Once both sides are complete then students can staple 2 pencil boxes together to create a billboard stand. (See picture). If your school doesn t use pencil boxes then cardboard is just as good with popsicle stick legs.
5. Remind students that the goal of the billboard is to persuade people to read your book. 6. Once the billboards are all complete have students do a walk through the classroom allowing them to view the Book Report Billboards. Based on the Billboards they can decide and later share which book they feel they would like to read next. 7. This time can also be used for peer evaluation using the student assessment evaluation sheet and to motivate students on choosing their next book to read.

Pop-Up Book Report Easy to Create Gets Students Motivated to Write Kid-Friendly Writing Rubric, Easy-to-Follow Instructions, Student Self-Assessment Score Sheet and LOTS of Photos of Student Samples!
Pop Up Book Report Easy to Create Gets Students Motivated to Write The 3 Pop Ups we will create will complement the summary of the students Book Report. One Pop Up scene to represent the beginning, the 2 nd to represent the middle, and the 3 rd to represent the end of the book. Creating the booklet (See Picture) Fold 2 pieces of colored construction paper (each 18in. x 12in.) placed on top of each other and staple in the center to create a booklet.
Creating the Pop Up Fold a piece of white paper in half. Along the fold make two 1-inch cuts about 1 inch apart. Push out the section of paper that has been cut and fold so it sticks up. This is your first Pop Up. (See Picture) Repeat this so you now have 2 Pop Ups on the white paper.
Placing Down the Index Cards The student can now choose which part of the scene they wish to have Pop Up. Using an index card they can draw, color it, and glue it down on the Pop Up tab (or staple). Students may choose to draw a character, building, or an animal etc. Once the student has placed the 2 nd card down as their pop up, they can now draw the remainder of the setting on the rest of the white paper. The summary is now ready to be written and finally stapled in. Continue these steps with the middle part of the summary and the ending. For the next Pop Ups, allow students to be more creative, maybe creating 3 Pop Ups, or larger ones. Note: A more simplified version would be just to create 1 Pop Up with a summary
