2 1 Name The Senior members of Thorney Lakes Golf Club shall be collectively known as The Thorney Lakes Golf Club Senior Section. The members of this section shall be bound by the following rules, and in addition, to any rules of the Thorney Lakes Golf Club relating to membership and the use of the Course and the Club House. 2 Objective 2.1 To provide competition golf for members of the section. 2.2 To arrange senior medals for handicapping purposes. 2.3 To arrange matches with Senior Sections of other Clubs. 2.4 To meet on a regular weekly basis (Roll-Up) for the purpose of playing golf. 3 Membership 3.1 A Member of the Senior Section must be A paid up male member of The Thorney Lakes Golf Club Be aged 55 or over. 3.2 All members of the section playing in the weekly roll - up or in a match will pay a levy into the Senior Section Funds. The amount to be determined by the committee at the start of each season. 4 Matches and Dress Code 4.1 Members selected to represent the Senior Section in Matches will be required to wear Team Colours - which are White Shirt and (if required) Burgundy Sweater both bearing the logo of the Thorney Lakes Golf Club. 4.2 For the after match meal the members are expected to be smartly dressed which includes a jacket and tie. 4.3 The Captain will arrange the selection of teams for matches against other clubs. Those selected to play will preferably have a handicap of 26 or less. 5 Senior Section Funds 5.1 The funds generated from the members levy will be accounted for by the Treasurer and an audited Income & Expenditure Account will be presented by him at the Annual General Meeting of the Senior Section. 5.2 The funds will be used to: Reimburse out of pocket expenses incurred on behalf of the section by any member of the section Subsidise meals at the discretion of the committee. To qualify for any subsidised meal a member must have played in enough matches or roll-ups between the subsidised events to cover the cost of the subsidy. The qualifying period will start at the beginning of the calendar year and end when the Christmas Luncheon has taken place Provide prizes and/or replicas for Senior Competitions Surplus funds may be used as determined by the committee up to a maximum of 250 for any single item or project. Exceptional purchases must first be approved by a general meeting of the members. 2of 5

3 6 Management 6.1 The management of the Senior Section shall be in the hands of the Committee which shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting and shall consist of the following The Captain who will hold office for one year. He will act as Chairman at all meetings. At the Annual General Meeting he will continue to Chair the Meeting until he conclusion of business. At the end of his year of office he shall remain on the committee as an ex officio member for one year. The Captain may if he wishes nominate a committee member to act as chairman during his term in office The Vice Captain shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting and shall hold office for one year, becoming Captain the following year. He will take over the duties of Captain after the December luncheon The officers shall consist of a Secretary and Treasurer. These officers shall retire automatically at the end of each year, being eligible for re-election at the Annual General Meeting. The newly elected Secretary and Treasurer shall work in parallel with the retiring officers from the AGM to the Christmas Luncheon. The newly elected officers will take up their posts immediately following the Christmas Luncheon Six Committee members, elected at the Annual General Meeting, shall serve on the committee for a period of one year. Any member may stand for re-election without a break in office. 6.2 On the 1st October each year a notice shall be displayed requesting nominations for members to serve as officers and committee members. Nomination forms will be available in the locker room and must be submitted to the secretary by 31st October. All names submitted for election must be proposed and seconded, permission of the nominee having first been obtained. 6.3 The Notice of the Annual General Meeting shall be displayed for three weeks prior to the meeting showing the names of those members offering themselves for election. 6.4 The Executive shall have power to appoint Sub Committees for special purposes and also power to co-opt a member to fill a vacancy occurring on the Committee during the year. 6.5 Where there is difficulty in filling a position from within the committee the executive shall have power to co-opt and these co-opted members shall have full voting powers. 6.6 In the case of an equality of votes the Captain shall be entitled to a second or casting vote. 7 Annual General Meeting 7.1 The Annual General Meeting shall be held in November each year. Not less than three weeks notice shall be given. The business to be transacted at the meeting shall be as follows: Apologies Minutes of previous Annual General Meeting Matters arising Financial report of the year Captains report Election of Officers: - Vice Captain, Secretary, Treasurer Election of 6 Committee Members Any proposition duly proposed and seconded Any other business 7.2 All members shall be eligible to attend and vote the Annual General Meeting. 3of 5

4 8 Representative on General Committee The role of Seniors Representative on the General Committee will be carried out by the Senior Captain or, at the discretion of the Senior Captain; a committee member will be elected. 9 Rules No new rules shall be made and no existing rules altered or rescinded except by two thirds majority at a General Meeting. 10 Special Meetings 10.1 If any five members of the Seniors Section signify in writing to the Hon. Secretary their desire to have a General Meeting of the Seniors Section and state the specific business to be submitted at such a meeting, it shall be the duty of the Hon. Secretary to call such a meeting giving not less than six days notice and stating on the notice the business for which it is called, which business alone shall be transacted at the meeting Twelve members shall form a quorum at a General Meeting Four members shall form a quorum at a Committee Meeting. 11 Competition 11.1 All competitions shall be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf of the R & A and with local rules as may be approved by the Executive Committee Ties shall be decided on the last 9, 6, 3 or final hole(s) on the card. In the case of a 36 hole competition on the last 18,9,6,3 or final hole(s) on the card All Qualifying competitions, i.e. Stroke play competitions and York Cup, will be played off the white tees. Stableford, Matchplay and all other competitions will be played off the yellow tees All members of Thorney Lakes Golf Club who have qualified for the Club Championship and comply with paragraphs and of this constitution are able to enter the Seniors Championship. In order to enter all other competitions arranged by the Senior Section a member must comply with paragraphs and and have played in at least 5 roll-ups or matches organised by the Senior Section in the six months prior to the entry date of the competition New members of Thorney Lakes Golf Club who comply with paragraphs and of this constitution must submit 5 cards from senior roll-ups or matches before entering all senior competitions except the Senior Championship Pairs Competition. The committee will decide the dates for the completion of all rounds. The rules applied by Thorney Lakes Golf Club to determine the outcome of matches not completed by the due date for its similar competitions will be used to resolve any disputes in the pairs competition The closing date for entry to all competitions will be clearly posted when the entry list is put on the Club Notice Board. This date will be strictly adhered to. The entry fee (decided by the committee) must be paid by the closing date for entries On the day of a qualifying competition (i.e. those played off the white tees) then a roll up will not take place. 4of 5

5 12 Handicaps 12.1 Senior member s handicaps will be maintained by the Handicap Secretary of the Thorney Lakes Golf Club. A member will play off their club handicap in Club competitions The Senior Section will maintain a separate handicap for all senior members playing in the Thursday Roll-Up The winner of a Thursday Roll-up involving between 9 and 40 members will be awarded for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd places. When between 40 and 50 members compete a 4 th prize will be awarded and when 55 or more members compete a 5 th prize will be awarded The winner of the Rollup will have his handicap cut temporarily by 2 shots for the next three Rollups he competes in. All other prize winners will similarly have their handicaps cut by 1 shot. After competing in 3 subsequent rollups the player will revert back to his handicap Should a member win or be another prize winner in a rollup whilst playing off a reduced handicap, then his handicap will be further reduced in accordance with then his handicap will be further reduced in accordance with Each reduction in handicap runs separately and will be removed after the member has played 3 roll-ups off the handicap penalty. eg. A member with a club handicap of 18 wins a roll-up then his roll-up handicap is reduced by 2 shots 1st Roll-up he plays off 16 and wins he is cut a further 2 shots 2nd Roll-up he plays off 14 - unplaced 3rd Roll-up he plays off 14 - unplaced His first 2 shot reduction is removed but the second penalty continues for a further roll-up as this has only been applied for 2 roll-ups. His handicap therefore becomes 16 5of 5
