In order to fulfill certification requirements, students will need experience in both regular and special education classrooms. (over)
5 Must I have internet access at home? No! This is not an online degree. Most classes take place at our physical locations. If an online course is required, filtered internet access is available in our Brooklyn facility. Note: This option is not available in Lakewood or Monsey. What are the admission requirements? High School Diploma A minimum High School average of 85% [alternative options exist for students who don t meet this standard] Passing Score on Introductory Psychology CLEP Exam or equivalent college level course [ISE offers preparatory review classes for this CLEP a few times a year] What credits can be applied toward the BS degree? Seminary credits, CLEP exams, High School college credits, Excelsior College exams, Empire State College courses, AP exams, correspondence courses, and previous college credits How much will this cost? The Bachelor s degree when obtained directly through Mercy College extends over six semesters and costs in excess of $45,000. Students who enroll in ISE require only three semesters and automatically earn a Merit Scholarship which reduces the tuition to approximately $18,000. The Masters degree when obtained through Mercy College directly requires a minimum of four semesters and costs $40,000. Students who enroll in ISE can complete the program in three semesters, with a tuition cost of approximately $17,000. What kind of financial aid is available? Pell grants are available for all eligible undergraduate students. TAP grants are also available for undergraduate New York State residents. Hebrew Free Loan Society [for Masters program only] Student loans are available for both programs Teaching in an approved Early Childhood Center can earn grants up to $4,000 per year What percentage of students graduate? Our exceptional guidance counselors work with every student, enabling 90 95% of students to graduate on schedule with all requirements completed. What if I get married or relocate during the course of the program? As a rule, credits never expire! Mercy credits can be transferred to an unlimited number of universities worldwide. Those relocating to Lakewood or Monsey may continue their degree in an uninterrupted fashion. Relocating to Eretz Yisroel requires separate customized arrangements which can be coordinated through our offices. Upon graduation from our programs, our students are certified to fill a wide variety of specialty roles within the field of Education/Special Education. This field of education is highly valued for its earning potential which far exceeds anything available to a teacher not in possession of this valuable degree. Many graduates have gone on to supervisory roles and have found creative niches for their education.
