Some have designated start and stop times while others allow for you to stop by anytime. You may attend as many sessions and events as you wish. 5 INFORMATION SESSION DESCRIPTIONS HOW DO I SUCCEED IN COLLEGE? College graduates attest: crossing the finish line is not just about going to class, but also about knowing your resources and support services. Find out about the numerous free services CSU offers to help you succeed in your academic career. COLLEGE 101 Learning about a college education can be as confusing as learning a new language or visiting a foreign country. This session will break down the basic structure of a university, help you understand the parts involved in earning a degree and explain in plain English some of the terminology you will encounter on any college campus. HOW DO I PICK MY MAJOR? Selecting an academic major is one of the most challenging aspects of the college experience. This session will examine common myths and misconceptions about majors, the relationship between majors and careers, and key factors to consider when choosing your major. Whether you re currently undecided about your major, or think you may already have decided on your major, this session offers a wealth of useful information. JACK, JOSEPH AND MORTON MANDEL HONORS COLLEGE This information session is for highachieving students interested in a challenging college academic experience. Learn more about admission requirements for the Honors and University Scholars programs, and meet current students in the program. INTRODUCTION TO FINANCIAL AID This session will provide an opportunity for participants to learn about the financial aid application process. The cost of higher education and different types of financial aid will also be reviewed. STUDENT HOUSING OPTIONS As a CSU student, you may decide to commute from your family home, live in a CSU residence hall, lease from a university-approved apartment or lease from an off-campus landlord. It is up to you. Learn more about all of your options and estimated expenses, including information about the CSU residence halls Euclid Commons and Fenn Tower. TRANSFERRING TO CSU If you re thinking about transferring to CSU from another college or university, attend this session to learn more about the transfer application process, scholarship opportunities, and resources available to help make your transition to CSU a success. Meet an admissions counselor and experience a fun presentation that outlines the five factors to consider when making your college decision. LIFE OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM Learn about college life outside the CSU classroom, on and off campus. This session features a video presentation that shows a day in the life of three CSU students and faculty as they take advantage of campus life, recreation opportunities, dining options, and the many ways they travel to and from campus. Learn how CSU s campus experience helps connect and engage students and the community. ENGAGING A DIVERSE CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY CSU is an urban university that enjoys a rich diversity of cultures, interests and opportunities for cultural learning. Learn about activities and services offered through the Office of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement to support diversity and promote inclusive excellence and student success. Hear from a diverse group of Student Navigators who will share their experiences working on various diversity initiatives that promote inclusion, engagement, retention and success. Students will review four-year major program plans regarding their major of interest and career goals. Students will leave with a personal folder with information about business scholarships, student engagement programs, and student services to support degree completion from the Monte Ahuja College of Business and student engagement programs. 7 WASHKEWICZ COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING Featuring chemical/biomedical, civil/environmental, electrical/ computer, and mechanical engineering programs, the College is located steps away from Fortune 500 businesses and world-class institutions. Students engage in unique hands-on learning experiences alongside renowned professors and local engineering professionals. In state-of-the-art classrooms, professors draw on engineering expertise and incorporate projects from local companies into the curriculum. And class sizes are small, which means that you ll receive a personalized engaged learning experience from professors you ll get to know on a first-name basis. Outside of the classroom, students learn from local professionals and explore possible careers through internships and co-ops in organizations such as NASA, Parker Hannifin Corporation, the Cleveland Clinic and more. Our co-op program enables students to alternate semesters between academic study and full-time, paid work at engineering companies. There are also 16 active engineering student clubs and organizations on campus. The College of Engineering provides more than $400,000 annually in scholarships to our students. 8 COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES You will be taught by professors who have won awards, published books, written articles, acted in a variety of regional productions, and who perform for the worldrenowned Cleveland Orchestra. One has even won a Grammy! Theatre, dance, and art programs are housed at our Arts Campus in Playhouse Square the second largest performing arts district in the United States! Students perform regularly in the Allen Theatre! Outside of the classroom, you ll learn from local professionals and explore possible careers through internships and unique study abroad experiences in foreign countries. There are also more than 20 active liberal arts and social science-related student clubs and organizations on campus. These include The Cleveland Stater, our University newspaper. Chemistry Lab Demonstration Science Building (SI), Room :00 p.m. If you re interested in science and chemistry, you won t want to miss Dr. Jerry Mundell as he presents a fun and interactive demonstration in one of the COSHP s state-of-the-art chemistry laboratories. Health Sciences Tour Health Sciences Building (HS) 1st Floor Main Lobby 12:00 p.m. Join Health Sciences professors and students for a tour of the facilities used by the popular Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant programs. Obtain information about these programs, view some of the technology used in the classrooms and labs, and experience some demonstrations of techniques used in these fields. Representatives from each of these programs will be on hand. NEOMED-CSU Partnership Science and Research Building (SR) :00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) and Cleveland State University (CSU) have established a partnership to provide a unique primary care medical education program within Northeast Ohio. Students earning a bachelor s degree at CSU and seeking early assurance to medical school can apply as sophomores to the two-year Baccalaureate/M.D. Program. 9 MAXINE GOODMAN LEVIN COLLEGE OF URBAN AFFAIRS The Levin College of Urban Affairs is recognized as one of the premier colleges of Urban Affairs. In fact, its graduate specialty in City Management and Urban Policy is ranked second in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The new Center for Experiential Learning is a one-stop resource center providing internships and mentoring opportunities for students. Through this innovative initiative, students obtain realworld experience and begin to build professional networks prior to graduation. The College offers three accelerated 4+1 programs, which allow high-performing students to earn bachelor s and master s degrees in just five years. By accelerating the completion of two degrees, students can jumpstart their careers as professionals in public administration, non-profit management, or environmental management. Careers in Economic Development Levin College Atrium 10:30 11:30 a.m. This session will introduce Economic Development, the newest major in the Levin College, and will explore degree options and careers. We SCHOOL OF NURSING Featuring a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), accelerated BSN, and RN to BSN programs for undergraduates, more than 95% of School of Nursing students graduate on schedule and they are in great demand by hospitals and health care agencies. In the classroom, professors draw on years of real nursing experience and incorporate the latest techniques and technologies into the curriculum. Students have the opportunity to practice all of their nursing skills on mannequins in our Nursing Resource Laboratory before they ever work on patients. Outside of the classroom, students learn first-hand by interacting with local nursing professionals during clinical experiences at some of the best hospitals in the country, including the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, and will highlight the efforts of local economic development organizations and their impact on our region. In addition to the vast amount of information nurses need to know, they must also be proficient in many psychomotor skills. The Nursing Resources Lab (NRL) provides a safe environment for students to learn and practice the the AAPLE Program (Credit for Life Experience), and develop the best plan for you to finish what you started and complete your degree. This traditional program is three years in length. ACCELERATED BSN PROGRAM The Accelerated program is an intense program that spans four consecutive semesters. It is designed for students who have a bachelor s degree in another profession and want to transition into nursing. RN TO BSN PROGRAM The RN to BSN program is offered to students who are already licensed RNs through a diploma or associate degree program. The nursing portion of this online program can be completed in three consecutive semesters. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN NURSING with a focus on population health. In the MSN program, students may choose one of four tracks: Specialized Populations Nursing Education Forensic Nursing Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) Students may also choose to pursue a joint MSN/MBA degree. The program is taught on a part-time basis, and all of the nursing courses in the MSN program are taught online.
