SERVANT TEAM LEADERS General Roles and Responsibilities Invite folks to join your team so that more students would have the opportunity to be a part of kingdom work. Until your team has at least 10 people you should make this a priority. Prepare/lead an hour-long weekly meeting. Vision cast, strategic plan, alignment and motivate towards the mission. Make sure cru connect leader gets all announcements at least 2 weeks before events. Athletics University Matters Conference Socials Host athletic events that create a safe and fun environment for students to interact and build lasting healthy relationships. To engage our campus this team will partner with events the university already sponsors, as a way to be more involved in the community. Help develop our students by recruiting and planning conferences. To create socials where people can build friendships, have fun and experience the body of Christ. Plan fun, interactive, and consistent events Organize and delegate responsibilities so that the events are done with excellence Promote 2 weeks ahead of time to create consistent attendees (fliers, announcements, skits, etc.) This team will find ways to involve itself with community service efforts and university events to provide greater awareness of our group as well as to provide service to the university community. partner with 1-3 events or efforts per semester Contacting and communicating with Cru staff team organizing event (especially Big Break and Radiate) Very actively recruiting for the conference, regularly announcing its imminent occurrence and making sign-ups easily accessible Organizing the ease of getting to the event (car sharing or bus), making sure all attendees arrive and are invited to the cohesive group Create fun, safe and unique events where everyone feels welcomed and invited. Plan a variety of socials events to engage many people across campus. Ex. Tailgates, dances, end of the year picnic, etc. Advertise and promote socials events in a timely way. Helpful spiritual gifts administration, hospitality, service/helps, exhortation
Prayer Evangelism Cru team Cru Connect To teach and cultivate a heart for prayer and create prayer events that help us focus on the glory of God! To encourage a lifestyle towards initiative and relational evangelism by train and creating events. To create a relevant environment for students to experience and understand Biblical principles. To proactively get students who attend cru plugged into Bible Studies, Servant s and Conferences. Create ways to help students connect with the heart of God. Come up with creative ways to pray for students. To make sure a guy and a girl from the prayer team is available at the end of every weekly meeting to pray with students who have prayer requests. 3 major prayer events each semester: Global missions, Campus Evangelism and Praise Night! Model a consistent lifestyle of evangelism. Have a natural, body and ministry outreach each semester. Natural- Christians and nonbelievers come together naturally because of commonality. Ex. Seed packing Body- Non-believers attend a Christian function where they experience the body of Christ. Ex. Create a cru where people can invite friends. Ministry- Believers take the initiative to reach out to non-believers. Ex. Prayer on High St. Constantly looking to create opportunities to train students in evangelism. Evaluate previous meetings Plan 1 month in advance who is doing student testimony, cru themes and talks (done in conjunction with the staff) Determine which announcements get shared each week. Announcements are to be given at least a week in advance. Coordinate with the speaker, the emcee, the band, other speakers (testimonies, special announcements, having his heart, etc.), and tech team to ensure an effective communication and a professional gathering Ensuring emphasis and communication of the gospel in every meeting Staying current on all happenings in Cru, making sure that cru connect is an important and viable source of communication to new and experienced members alike Be responsible for greeters. Make sure someone is running lights during the weekly meetings. Create ambiance for the weekly meeting. Hang banners and set up cru connect table Collect cru cards Make sure the contacts from cru cards go into database and is shared with Bible study leaders and Servant leaders. Update Calendar
BIBLE STUDIES AND DISCIPLESHIP Bible Study Leader Discipleship Leader A Bible study leader will have a significant role in leading and recruiting our next generation of students. We will be moving to a small group style of leading Bible studies, creating small group initiative early in students college careers will be done through our Freshman Bible studies. This upcoming semester will be a transition semester, where current leaders will be in place unless they wish to switch Bible studies. A leading reason for having applications is so that roles like Bible study leaders will not be merely assigned but will be taken by those eager to have them. We will attempt, as often as possible, to assign Bible studies by calendar year-similar to servant team leader turnover-this way roles won t have to be decided after a new calendar year. You can be both a servant team leader and Bible study leader if you choose, or you can simply choose one of those roles. For the time being if you apply for the role simply indicate Evansdale, Downtown, or Off-campus and we will determine where specific studies will be next year. Recruiting and following up at beginning of semester to gather people Having a well prepared lesson and discussion on a weekly basis Meeting with the Bible study once a week (Tuesday night) Using your study as a platform to further other ministry initiative (conferences, summer project, socials) -Preparing and challenging others to be an active contributor to the study and in some cases leading a study. Creating a norm of reaching non-christians, and gathering believers in your target area These new roles (one male and one female), are intended to be the coordinators and encouragers of our new small group initiative. Small groups will be groups of 3-5 non-freshman based on current Bible study arrangements. Next school years small groups will be determined based on this school years freshman Bible studies. The discipleship leaders will stay in contact with all Bible studies, assuring that Biblical material is being consistently covered members are staying consistent with their attendance and input. This role has a strong component of accountability; these leaders, with the assistance of the staff, will be largely responsible for keeping consistent growth and involvement among our upperclassmen and our leaders. Be in constant contact with small group liaisons as well as staff, keep track of our people Investigate present and future material that discipleship small groups will be going over-preparing curriculum for all groups
CRU AT WVU Our Purpose Helping to fulfill the Great Commission in the power of the Holy Spirit by winning people to faith in Jesus Christ, building them in their faith and sending them to win and build others; and helping the Body of Christ do evangelism and discipleship Our Win, build, and send Christ-centered multiplying disciples who launch spiritual movements Our Vision Movements everywhere so that everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus Your expectations of us (aside from those on the next page) That we will genuinely look to develop you with your whole life in view and not just for what cru can get out of you in the next couple years. That we would be committed to helping you in developing the character, heart, leadership, and mind of a disciple of Christ. That we will stretch and challenge you in areas of ministry skills and spiritual multiplication. You will be put in a structure where you can grow, be challenged, and develop gifts. Our Values Faith, Growth, and Fruitfulness
CRU AT WVU What is Expected of a Leader? Nothing in life works without clear expectations. That s why we want to clearly communicate just what we expect from each of you. Our Expectations of You: That you view your relationship with the Lord as your #1 priority. Your ministry should be out of an overflow of your passion for God and not out of a sense of duty. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. Matthew 22:37 That you view cru as the ministry to which God has primarily called you during your college career. This is a matter of focus and stewardship. If you are committed to leadership in more than one ministry you will be practically ineffective. Make the most of your time for the days are evil. Eph. 5:16 That you represent Jesus Christ well. Don t do anything that will reflect poorly on your relationship with the Lord or anyone else in leadership. (this includes being cautious in your speech, the places you may consider going like bars/clubs, or any other behavior that may jeopardize your witness) Be imitators of God. Eph. 5:1 Realizing that your position as a leader is one of influence, therefore if there is an issue that you or even others may struggle with (ie. drinking alcohol, entertainment/media, facebook post) you would refrain for the sake of not causing anyone to stumble. We expect you to make a contribution to spiritual multiplication within cru. (ie. Small group leader, evangelism or something else we have talked about.) Paul tells us in 2 Thess. 3:10, Cru leadership is not a place for you to just come and plug in your cords and be fed. You should make a contribution to what God has called CCC to do at WVU by investing yourself in the lives of other men and women. That you would be submissive to authority over you. Romans 13:1-2 God, we view scripture as the ultimate on all issues in which it speaks. Cru leadership, this means students and staff who may be over you, this does not mean that you can t disagree with them- you shouldn t gossip, slander, or undermine their authority. Civil authorities That you would commit to the following: Attending the beginning of the year activities Welcome Back Picnic on the evening of Thursday August 14, The first two week strategy Fall Retreat (tentatively scheduled for October 3-5, 2014 Commit to Monthly Leadership Meetings Attending one of the following conferences: Radiate 2013 and/or a Spring Break in This is a matter of strategy. In order to recruit freshmen to these conferences, we need leaders who will lead the charge by being an example. (i.e. You can t convince freshmen to do what you re unwilling to do.) That you would be open to consider a summer project next summer or consider stint/intern/staff or some other ministry opportunity. Obviously we want you to follow the Lord s leading in your life, so what we are asking you to do is to pursue it as if it is your best option and trust God to remove barriers. We expect you to be sexually pure. 1 Thes 4:1-8 / Acts 15: (Pornography, immodest dress, non-healthy boundaries in dating, etc.) See yourself as the least and as a servant of others (This includes choosing humility when it comes to respecting those of authority over you.) Luke 17:7-10; John 13; Mark 10:43-45.
