Saint Martin in Roath SOLEMN MASS The 5th Sunday after Epiphany Sunday 5th February 2017 Organ Prelude Bach, Allein Gott in der Höh sei Her (BWV 676) Hymn 476 In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen The grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all And also with you KYRIE Palestrina, Missa Brevis Heavenly Father, we have sinned in thought, word and deed, and have failed to do what we ought to have done. We are sorry and truly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ who died for us, forgive us all that is past and lead us in his way to walk as children of light. Amen. Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy on you and set you free from sin, strengthen you in goodness and keep you in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
GLORIA The Collect Liturgy of the Word A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah Missa De Angelis
Responsorial Psalm 111 He is a light in the darkness for the upright: he is generous, merciful and just. The good man takes pity and lends, he conducts his affairs with honour. R/. The just man will never waver: he will be remembered for ever. He has no fear of evil news; with a firm heart he trusts in the Lord. R/. With a steadfast heart he will not fear; open handed he gives to the poor; his justice stands firm for ever. His head will be raised in glory. R./ A Reading from the first Letter of St Paul to the Corinthians Gospel Acclamation Stand I am the light of the world says the Lord, anyone who follows me will have the light of life. The Gospel The Lord be with you And also with you Listen to the Gospel of Christ according to Saint Matthew Glory to you O Lord After the reading The Gospel of the Lord Praise to you O Christ The Homily The Vicar
The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation (Kneel) he came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. (Rise) For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. The Prayer of the Church The Peace
Liturgy of the Eucharist OFFERTORY HYMN 401 During the Offertory bread and wine are presented at the altar and a collection of money is taken from among the people. Please see this as your giving and sharing what you have. Give generously and GIFT AID your offering if you are a UK Tax Payer. Orate fratres Pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God the almighty Father May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and for the good of all his Church Prayer over the Gifts prayed by the priest The Eucharistic Prayer The Lord be with you And also with you Lift up your hearts We lift them to the Lord Let us give thanks to the Lord our God It is right to give our thanks and praise The Celebrant continues with the Preface until the Sanctus
The priest continues the Eucharistic Prayer Holy Communion The priest introduces the Lord s Prayer and all sing together: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. All Kneel
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen The Fraction We break this bread to share in the body of Christ Though we are many, we are one body for we all share in one bread AGNUS DEI Palestrina, Missa Brevis Invitation to Holy Communion Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Happy are those who are called to his supper. Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed. Communion MOTET Vierne, Tantum Ergo Tantum ergo Sacramentum veneremur cernui: Et antiquum documentum novo cedat ritui: Præstet fides supplementum sensuum defectui. Genitori, Genitoque laus et iubilatio, salus, honor, virtus quoque sit et benedictio: Procedenti ab utroque compar sit laudatio. Amen. Hence so great a Sacrament let us venerate with heads bowed and let the old practice give way to the new rite; let faith provide a supplement for the failure of the senses. To the Begetter and the Begotten, be praise and jubilation, Hail, honour, virtue also, and blessing too: To the One proceeding from Both let there be equal praise Hymn 294 The Prayer after Communion
The Blessing HYMN 374 Angelus Recalling the mystery of the Incarnation The Angel of the Lord brought tidings to Mary. And she conceived by the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen Behold the hand-maid of the Lord: Be it unto me according to thy word Hail Mary And the Word was made flesh: And dwelt among us. Hail Mary Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God: That we may become worthy of the promises of Christ. The Collect Dismissal The Mass is ended, go in peace to love and serve the Lord In the name of Christ. Amen ORGAN POSTLUDE Buxtehude, Prelude & Fugue in G minor While we appreciate the Organ Postlude and it has become our custom to applaud at its conclusion, the Organist has suggested that applause is not necessary. Thank you
