10 Maine Campground Owners Association Representing Campgrounds and RV parks throughout the state MECOA is a 192 member Trade Association made up mostly of small family owned and operated campgrounds located in every Tourism region of Maine. Over 21,000 campsites in Maine. The average site is only $32 per night. Over 60% of site nights are rented to Mainers. Maine is the only state that requires a lodging tax on a campsite. Camping is an affordable family, outdoor, recreational activity. State Park CGs are marketed through the MECOA website and camping guide. MECOA attends 12 RV and Camping Shows in USA and Canada promoting Maine. MECOA produces Maine s premier RV and Camping Show in Portland each year.

13 Over 400 members statewide from single, sole proprietorships to recognizable Maine brands including LL Bean, Mardens, Kittery Trading Post and Reny s to large, multi-state retailers like Target, Home Depot and Macys. Maine retailers employ approximately 80,000 Mainers. Retail is Maine s largest employment sector. Sales taxes collected from merchants and retailers total over $1 billion annually, about 1/3 of the state budget. Retail is a key component of tourism efforts to attract visitors to Maine to stay, eat and shop! RETAIL Means Jobs!
