1 Installation and configuration of Netgear routers for use with DVRs Netgear models DG834, DG834G & DG834N DVR & Viewer software settings for DVR8/16MP4 Models Step 1, Connecting the PC to the internet via the router. Connect the router to your broadband line, use a filter if you are also using the line for voice calls. (do not connect any modem etc supplied by the internet service provider unless the internet service is via cable eg Virgin in which case us a router without ADSL modem) Run the Netgear start CD that came with the Router. The CD should Auto run, if not go to My Computer on your PCs start Menu Click on the CD/DVD Drive Select run or start Click next Click setup (This will open a Internet Explorer window) Click next and follow the on screen instructions. After the router has connected to the PC a welcome screen will appear. Select country and language. Select an admin password for the router as the screen prompts The wizard will now detect your internet service if it is present. When the line is detected enter your internet service providers Connecting to the internet User name and password (this will be on your service providers welcome letter) If you are now successfully connected to the internet, a message will tell you the internet connection is complete. Follow the next steps. Select web security when prompted, if you want to make the network secure (recommended when using wireless routers). Follow the next steps when prompted to complete the installation. Step 2, Configuring the router and DVR to allow LAN and internet viewing. Page 1

2 Port forwarding for Netgear routers is found under services add service. If you are not logged onto your router you can do this by opening Internet Explorer and entering the IP address of the router in the address bar Netgear IP addresses will in most cases be one of the two numbers listed below or A dialog box will appear. For Login enter ADMIN For password enter password To port forward to your DVR follow the instruction below. Click on services (under security) Click add custom service (shown in Fig1) Fig1 Page 2

3 Choose a DVR name (eg dvr) For DVR8MP4 enter port number 5400 Click Apply The port forwarding service will now show on the service list as below (Fig2) Fig 2 Page 3

4 To allow an incoming connection through the router firewall follow instructions as below Go to the Firewall rules section. Configure inbound as shown in Fig3 Below This is done by clicking on the add tab under the INBOUND service list. Find the service for the DVR from the drop down box. Enter the IP address as shown below or if your router is not a Netgear model this number may be different. Confirm by clicking the apply button. See Fig 3 Fig 3 Page 3 When you have added the firewall service it will appear on the Inbound Firewall service list as shown in Fig 4 below.

Step 3, Configuring DVR settings The settings below should be entered in the Network setup page of the DVR Menu, see Fig 5 There are only 2 settings you will need to adjust, See below.

IP Address This is the local network IP address of the DVR, enter either or The IP address will follow the routers (gateway) IP address, so if the router IP address is then the DVR IP address will be If your router is not a Netgear model this IP may be different use the router (gateway) IP address of your alternative router with the last set changed to 77 as above. eg if your routers IP address is then your DVR IP address will be Gateway This is the router IP address, either or if you are not using a Netgear model use your routers IP address, this is the one that you use to log onto the router via Internet Explorer. 7 Step 4. Configuring the Remote Client (viewer) software. Before configuring, the DVR and router must be installed and all cables connected. Load the viewer software from CD or from Viewer opens, click on the two buttons on fig 6 above. Fig 6 Fig 7 Page 6

Enter the DVR IP address, if you are on the local network (I.E. in the same building on the local network) the IP number will be the one you entered into the DVR (eg 192.168.0.

Enter this number where shown on Fig 7 Click Add The DVR info will then appear in the top box, highlight it then click connect. Enter the password as shown in Fig 8, you must use the administrator password, you can change this number in the DVR user menu. Fig 8 Page 7

9 Fig 9 If logged in correctly images will appear in a few seconds. Frame rates will refresh quicker when viewing 1 camera at a time. You can add more DVR s to the same viewer software and view simultaneously by following the same installation procedure
