1 10 Reasons why you re Worth It! By Caroline Rushforth

2 Background At an early age I got caught up in an array of events which affected my self esteem. I was a child in the middle of a bitter and stressful parental divorce. I struggled at school in many subjects because I didn t like to speak out and felt intimidated by my classmates. I had an un-hinged boyfriend who emotionally black-mailed me in addition to stalking, and I suffered bullying at work. As a result, I learnt to seek comfort in food and I developed an eating disorder. Each of those events impacted on my confidence and how I perceived myself as I grew older. I was very self conscious about how I looked and how I came across to other people. I wore baggy dark clothing in the hope that no one would notice me. I would often be paranoid that people were talking about me, so as a result I tried to change my behaviour to please them. I was constantly chasing my tail in fear of not being liked or accepted. For the majority of my teenage life and into adulthood I was at war with myself. It wasn t until I hit my 20s that I began to seek out my own personal journey to inner healing. I couldn t accept that life had to be such a struggle and with this deep inner knowingness, I bought my first personal development book and began my journey into releasing and healing.

3 Introduction Circumstances that happen to us at an early age have an effect on how we feel about ourselves and our perception of who we are. Comments people say to us, the experiences we have, and the learning s we gain from our environment, all impact on our belief system and personal development. It s important to remember that we are all unique in our own way. No one is the same and nor should you want to be the same as someone else. In order to take back control of how we feel, we have to let go of the belief that other people make us feel good. In addition, the external props we use to escape from our feelings and emotions only push them down, and as a result they manifest in a negative sense of wellbeing, illness and most severely disease. This is because our emotions have to be released in some way eventually whether consciously or unconsciously. Being able to tune in to your emotions and notice how you feel is the most important transition to promoting your own inner well-being and healing. We can learn to be comfortable in our own skin and our relationships are important to make us feel good, but they can also be the reason why we feel so unhappy. Living in a world of contrast there will always be people who are different to us and who judge us for being something they are not. We are judged for being too extrovert, too comfortable in our own skin, too loud, too quiet, too sensible. Because we want to be accepted we try to change our behaviour to seek out the endorsement of other people. We become paranoid about what people think of us and fall into a spiral of approval seeking maniacs. But there will always be contrast, there will always be people who don t

4 like something, and there will always be someone who has a different opinion. It is impossible to please all the people all of the time. Having low self esteem can be exhausting as you try to carry out a mission that can never be achieved because you cannot control how another person feels or what they say, you can only control how you feel and what you say. The best and only relationship you can be in control of is the relationship with yourself. I hope that as a result of this report you will come away with a different perspective on your behaviour both towards yourself and the expectations you hold of other people.

5 10 Reasons Why You re Worth It! 1. People often look to others to validate themselves in many aspects causing them to lose their own power and control. How often do you look to your friends or those around you to make you feel good about yourself? You re worth it because you don t have to seek out approval from other people if you can find the juicy goodness in yourself first! 2. In order to improve your self esteem, practice how you interact with yourself and other people. If you look in the mirror and criticise what you see, or tell yourself you are no good at something, you are fuelling an unhealthy relationship with yourself. The same thing applies when you judge others; what you are really doing is magnifying something in them that you don t like in yourself. You re worth it because you are an individual and have the right to be unique. You don t have to criticise yourself for not being the perfect person, and you will never will be the perfect person. But you can be the best and perfect version of YOU! 3. When you spend time thinking more positively about who you are, valuing what you offer to others and believing that no matter what, you remain to be congruent and consistent in your own personal beliefs and values, no one can have any power over you. You re worth it because you DO have the power to change the way you see yourself and can banish negative self talk resulting in a wonderful and accepting relationship with who you really are.

6 4. If you lack self esteem it will come through in your body language and how you communicate with people no matter how hard you try to cover it up. Picture yourself interacting with people in ways that affirm your worth, respect your feelings and honour who you are. Think of how you will feel when you act in this way. Notice that as you respect yourself, others respect you also. You are worth it because you are precious and can give yourself permission to be true to your individual values and beliefs. With every word you say, and every interaction you have. 5. Instead of telling everyone your problems, talk about what went well yesterday, or last week. If your attention is defaulted to noticing all the situations that go wrong during the day, make a conscious effort to notice the things that go right too, even if it s something simple like getting through two sets of green traffic lights on a busy cross roads! A simple re-framing of your thoughts has a powerful impact on how you think. Like a muscle, the more you do it, the easier it gets. You are worth it because you have complete control over what you say and what you can be grateful for. You can focus on all the positive things that you have experienced in the day, month or year!

7 6. A good start to training yourself to think more optimistically is to ensure you are doing something in your daily life that you love to do. This lessens your need to look to your environment or other people to seek out a happier self. Make a list of the things you love to do. If you can t think of anything presently, what about when you were in your younger years? What brought you absolute joy as a child? When was the last time you can remember being happy? Find out what your passion is and do more of that feel-good stuff. When you do this, you radiate positive good feelings and attract more of it to you. You re worth it because you have things you love to do, that make you feel compatible with happy thoughts and emotions. You can make time for yourself. 7. People who lack self confidence will often question why everyone else has an ability to get what they set out to achieve and you then feel left behind like a victim. You compare yourself to everyone else and want other people to take responsibility for your lack. It s much easier to blame other people for your own misfortunes isn t it? You are worth it because when you take responsibility for your feelings, you are more empowered and make better choices for yourself. You can create profound changes in your life when you realise that it is entirely down to you to take responsibility for your feelings and emotions.

8 8. In order to build up your self confidence and self esteem practice taking your personal power back. Let go of frequently apologising and feel ok about disagreeing with someone else s opinion. When you can learn to speak from your place of power, and have integrity and respect for yourself, people will start to treat you differently. You are worth it because no one else can control how you feel, nor can you control how someone else feels because emotions come from within you, and you can change your state at any time. You can focus in on what your strengths are by writing them out as though you are seeing yourself through the eyes of someone else. What would your friends say about you? What are you good at? What makes you feel empowered? 9. A person who has a balanced sense of self esteem will be able to identify the good points about themselves. They will be able to speak highly of other people and often give compliments without giving it a second thought. They will own their decisions and although they make mistakes too, they will be able to move on from it quickly without worrying what other people think about them. They can apologise coming from their place of power as opposed to a place of weakness. As a result they have strength and control over their decisions, allowing them to achieve successfully. You re worth it because you can take time to do all of the above by practicing these suggestions!

9 10. To end here are some positive affirmations to help you think in more positive ways. Practice these on a daily basis to help you re-frame your negatively programmed unconscious mind. You re worth it because you can take time for yourself to say these daily affirmations which will progress you towards a more fulfilling and healthy relationship with yourself. I am competent and trust in my inner greatness. I believe in myself. I recognise the many good qualities I have such as... I see the best in people and accept others for who they are. I surround myself with people who bring out the best in me. I let go of negative thoughts and feelings about myself. I take responsibility for how I feel. I am worthy. I am enough. I make wise use of my time and energy. I make decisions for myself.
