1 Grade 3 - BCT s Session 1 1. Who were the apostles? The apostles were close friends of Jesus who followed Him and taught others about Jesus. 2. What is the Apostles Creed? The Apostles Creed is a prayer that states what members of the Catholic Church believe. 3. Name and describe the 3 parts of the Apostles Creed. 1. God the Father, the Creator 2. God the Son, the Redeemer 3. The Holy Spirit, the Sanctifier 4. What is a psalm? A psalm is a prayer in the form of a poem or song that is used to praise God. 5. Why did God create all things? Because of His love. 6. Why must we make God an important part of our lives? Because He created us and because He loves us. 7. What does the beauty in our world help us to do? To know God and to love God because God is present in everything in He has made. Session 2 8. Why do we pray the Sign of the Cross? Praying the Sign of the Cross is a way of remembering the Trinity. 9. Who are the 3 Persons in the Trinity? God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. 10. What does the Holy Spirit do? The Holy Spirit helps us to understand how much God loves us and how to love others. 11. What do the Sign of the Cross, the Glory Be and the Apostle s Creed have in common? They praise God the Trinity. 12. Who is the source of the love that we have for one another? The Trinity. Session What does the word reveal mean? Making known what was not known before. 14. What prayer did Jesus give us so that we could speak to God? The Lord s Prayer (or The Our Father) September
2 15. Why does God want us to call Him Father? God wants us to know that He loves us, cares for us, answers our prayers and forgives us, like any good father would. 16. In the Our Father what does the word hallowed mean? Holy 17. In the Our Father what are trespasses? Trespasses are things we do that hurt others; things that are wrong to do. 18. What does forgive mean? To be kind to people who have hurt us and to let go of the hurt. Session What did the angel tell Joseph? That Mary would have a baby thru the Holy Spirit. 20. What does the name Jesus mean? God saves us. 21. What does the name Emmanuel mean? God with us. 22. What are the Scriptures? The Scriptures are the holy writings about God and Jesus in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. 23. Why did God our Father send His Son to us? To save us, to teach us, and to be with us. Session What are the five main seasons of the Church and what color is associated with each? Advent - purple, Christmas - white, Ordinary Time green, Lent - purple, Easter - white. 25. When do we celebrate Ordinary Time? After Christmas until Ash Wednesday and then after Pentecost until Advent. Session What is a religious community? A group of men or women who live, work, and pray together to serve God and others. 27. What is a parable? A simple story used by Jesus in the Gospels to explain a difficult idea or lesson. 28. What is the Kingdom of God? The Kingdom of God is accepting God as our King and seeing ourselves as His people. We experience the Kingdom of God here on earth in the Eucharist. 29. When will we experience the fullness of the Kingdom of God? When we get to Heaven. 30. What did Jesus do to show us how to serve the Kingdom of God? He worked hard, practiced His faith, and loved all people. September
3 31. Give an example of one of the parables Jesus used to describe the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed or the Kingdom of God is like yeast. Session What are the two things God calls us to do? Love God above all things and love one another as much as we love ourselves. 33. What does it mean to sin? To make a choice that hurts our friendship with God and other people. 34. Who gives us the grace to turn back to God after we sin? The Holy Spirit. 35. What does conversion mean? The change of heart that directs us away from sin and towards God. 36. What rules did God give us to help us live by? The Ten Commandments. 37. What does the Holy Spirit give us to help us do what God wants? Grace. Session What does the word mission mean? A task or project, a job or goal to achieve. 39. What is your mission as a follower of Jesus? To serve God s Kingdom by following Jesus and serving others. 40. What does proclaim mean? To announce publicly. 41. What does the word Gospel mean? Good News. 42. What are the Gospels? The books of the Bible that tell about Jesus life and teachings. 43. What is the Good News of the Gospels? Jesus became man, died, and rose from the dead to save us from our sins. Session The cross is a symbol that reminds us of something important, what does the cross represent? Jesus death. 45. What is the Paschal Mystery? The Paschal Mystery is how Jesus saved us through His life, Death, Resurrection. 46. How are we saved? Through Jesus Death and Resurrection. 47. Why do we call Jesus Lord? Because Jesus is God. September
4 Session What is Advent? Advent is a time to prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus. 49. When does Advent begin and end? Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas Day and ends at Christmas Mass. 50. How were Mary and Joseph faithful to God? Mary agreed to become the mother of Jesus. Joseph agreed to marry Mary and become the foster father of Jesus. 51. What is the color of the priest s vestments and alter cloth during Advent? Purple Session What is a disciple? A follower of Jesus. 53. Describe what happened at Pentecost. The Holy Spirit came down upon the Mary and disciples with strong wind and tongues of fire. 54. How did the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost affect the disciples?the Holy Spirit fired up the disciples to tell the world about Jesus and all who heard them could understand them even though they spoke different languages. 55. When do we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost? 50 days after Easter Sunday. 56. On Pentecost Sunday what color does the priest wear and why? Priests wear red vestments in memory of the tongues of fire of the first Pentecost. 57. How did the Holy Spirit begin building the Church? By giving the disciples the strength to be witnesses to Jesus and to spread God s word. 58. How does the Holy Spirit continue to build the Church today? A prayer that calls upon God to care for a person, a place, a thing, or an activity. 76. What do the Sacraments do for us? They help us grow in faith and live as God wants. Session What is the Annunciation? When the Angel Gabriel asked Mary if she would be the mother of Jesus. 78. What is the Magnificat? Mary s prayer of praise to God. September

To choose good and avoid evil. September

You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor The 1 st Commandment is I am the Lord your God you shall not have false gods before me. Explain what this means. You should always tell the truth, you should never lie The 9 th and 10 th Commandments state that you shall not covet your neighbor s wife or goods. Explain what this means. Be thankful with what God has given you. Respect the gifts given to your neighbors and friends. Session What is justice? Giving to God and others what is due them. (ex.
