2 IMPORTANT This product must be fitted in accordance with the latest Water Regulations Guide which includes the Water Bylaws 2000 (Scotland). Please retain this instruction leaflet for future reference to ensure optimum shower valve performance. GUARANTEE This product has been manufactured and comes complete with a 1 year guarantee. This does not affect your statutory rights. You will need to provide proof of purchase in the event of claim. The guarantee does not cover faults or damages caused by incorrect installation and/or maintenance, ordinary wear and tear, water composition etc. i.e.: - Incorrect installation, inversion of supply pipes - Pressures or temperatures exceeding specified limits - Improper manipulation, incorrect or misused maintenance - Foreign bodies and/or scale brought by water quality, composition. - Ordinary wear and tear, the freezing of water. This shower is covered for 1 year, from date of purchase, against manufacturing defects. For domestic use only. HOT WATER SUPPLY This mixer is suitable for any water heating system. In case of instantaneous heaters, hot water flow has to meet at least the minimum flow required by the heater to start and go on burning (see heater specifications). Instantaneous heaters of power equal to or higher than 18kW or 250mth/min are suitable. Generally, instantaneous water heaters having a lower power may not be suitable to work properly with any thermostatic mixer. OPERATING SPECIFICATIONS Maximum cold supply: 25 Maximum hot supply: 80 C Minimum hot supply: 10 C higher than maximum required mixer temperature Advisable hot supply: C Minimum difference between hot and mixed temperature: 10 C Mixed water: 41 OPERATING PRESSURE CRITERIA BS EN 1287 (low pressure) BS EN 1111 (high pressure) Pressure range: 0.1 bar - 1 bar 0.5 bar - 5 bar Max static: 10 bar 10 bar Recommended working pressure: bar Operating pressures (on hot and cold supply) should be kept as balanced as possible, and from a common source, in order to ensure the maximum efficiency of the mixer. To reduce the flow rate, when the mixer is fitted to high pressure systems, fit flow restrictors as shown in paragraph "HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEMS" to reduce water consumption. When pressures exceed 5 bar, installation of a pressure reducing valve is required. 2

3 HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEMS This mixer is suitable for low and high pressure systems. In the event this mixer is installed on a high pressure system, flow restrictors (supplied loose in the box) can be fitted as explained below to reduce water consumption to approx. 7l/min from the shower outlet at pressures of 1 bar and above. Unscrew the nut and remove the olive from the elbow. Remove the filters and insert the flow restrictors into the elbows, then re-fit filters, nuts and olives to elbows. Olive Flow reducer Elbow Fig 1 Nut Filter TECHNICAL DETAILS Other Information The mixer inlets are supplied with 1/2"BSP threads. The valve is provided with two outlets (top and bottom). PLUMBING An independent water supply (both hot and cold) is required for the shower system. Large runs of pipework will cause frictional loss of pressure. The recommended pipe diameter from both cylinder and water tank should be a minimum of 22mm reducing to 15 within 500mm of the valve. If more than one shower valve is installed ensure constant supply of hot and cold water can be maintained. Hot water supply MUST always be on the LEFT inlet. The inlet pipes should be 150mm apart and 21mm from the finished wall surface. IMPORTANT: Water feed pipes must be flushed before installation of the mixer to eradicate foreign bodies from the pipe work and system. Failing to comply with this instruction could allow particles to enter the blending cartridge suspending operation. Failing to comply with this instruction will void any warranty or guarantees

4 INSTALLATION 1. Pipework should be installed and purged before commencing installation (see plumbing section). 2. Place mounting plinth centrally, drill holes and fit the base with the supplied screws. 3. Fit the mixer to the copper pipes coming from the wall and to the mounting plinth (already fixed to the wall). 4. Fix the mixer to the mounting plinth using the supplied grub screws and tighten nuts ensuring olives are seated correctly. FILTER CLEANING Through years of use impurities and limescale can restrict the flow of water through the filters of the mixer. If the mixer's performance deteriorates the filters may need to be cleaned. The following procedure explains how to clean or replace the elbow filters. 1. Shut down water supplies to mixer. 2. Remove the nuts and unscrew the grub screws off the mounting plinth 3. Remove the mixer. 4. The filters are located in the inlet elbows: carefully remove them with a pair of pliers. 5. Wash filters under running water or leave to soak in vinegar or de-scaling agent. 6. Refit the filters. 7. See "INSTALLATION" paragraph at page 4, for refitting mixer. CARTRIDGE CHANGE AND CLEANING Through years of use impurities and limescale can restrict the flow of water through the mixer. If the mixer's performance deteriorates the mixer cartridge may need to be cleaned or replaced. The following procedure explains how to remove and clean the cartridge. See page 3 to clean or replace the elbow filters. 1. Shut down all water supply to the mixer. 2. Remove the indicie from the temperature regulator handle, undo screw and pull the handle from the mixer body. Remove the indice from the flow control handle and undo the screw. Pull the flow control handle and remove it from its spline. 3. Unscrew the cartridge with a 17mm spanner. Remove the cartridge from mixer being careful not to damage the seals. 4. Wash the cartridge under running water or leave to soak in vinegar or de-scaling agent. 5. Before refitting the cartridge, clean the mixer housing and grease the cartridge O-rings. 6. Re-fit the cartridge and tighten with a 17mm spanner (torque Nm). 7. Turn the water supply back on. Measure water temperature with a thermometer. Turn the regulator handle to the maximum hot position; remove the handle then using a screwdriver (see Troubleshooting part) set the mixed flow temperature at 41 C. 8. Re-fit the flow control handle and fix it by means of the grub screw; then re-fit the regulator handle and fix it by means of the screw. Pay attention that the flow control lever is directed downwards. 4

5 TROUBLESHOOTING 1. CONTINUOUS TEMPERATURE OSCILLATIONS Cause: The mixer has been installed with inverted inlets. Solution: The hot water inlet (see red dot on the rear of the mixer) must always be on the left hand side of the mixer. 2. POOR MIXER OPERATION Cause: Dirty or damaged filter or cartridge. Solution: Refer to "FILTER CLEANING" on page 4 or "CARTRIDGE CHANGE AND CLEANING" on page HIGH WATER USAGE Cause: High pressure system quickly empties hot water in tank or from boiler. Solution: Fit flow regulators. Refer to "HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEMS" on page POOR FLOW RATE OF WATER Cause: Filters blocked or damaged in elbows or faulty cartridge. Solution: Refer to "FILTER CLEANING" on page 4 and "CARTRIDGE CHANGE AND CLEANING" on page WRONG CARTRIDGE SETTINGS Cause: Preset settings are unsuitable for installation. Solution: the mixer is factory preset at 0.6 bar and a delivery temperature of C for hot water and C for cold corresponding to a mixed temperature of 41 C. Domestic installation temperature and inlet pressures can vary which will require the mixer to be adjusted. 1. Use a common household thermometer to test water temperature. 2. Turn the handle until fully hot. 3. Prise off cap and undo screw on regulator handle (handles can remain during this process). 4. Insert a thin bladed screw driver inside the spindle of the cartridge to engage with the slot inside, then turn until desired temperature is reached, always maintain a min 10 C difference between set temperature and hot water system temperature, see figure here below. 5. In case you have removed handles, refit them with knobs on the top. Pay attention that the levers are directed downwards. Fig 1 Fig 2 5

6 OUTLET CHANGE Changing top outlet to a bottom outlet. The valve is received with the outlet at the top for rigid riser connection. If you require an outlet at the bottom (for hose connection), you will need to change the outlet position. To do this, follow the steps below. 1. Unscrew top outlet from valve, using a spanner. 2. Unscrew the bottom outlet plug from the valve using a spanner. 3. Fit plug into the hole at the top of the valve and tighten. 4. Insert the outlet into the bottom of the valve and tighten. 5. Fit shower hose and check for leaks. IMPORTANT DO NOT SIMPLY TURN THE VALVE OVER TO CHANGE THE OUTLET POSITION AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS Whilst modern plating techniques are used in the manufacture of this item, the surfaces will wear if not cleaned correctly. Clean this product with a soft cloth with clean water. The use of any abrasive material will invalidate the guarantee. 6

10 CARTRIDGE RE-SETTING (refer to drawing here below): The mixer is factory set at 41 C. This can however be adjusted for site conditions or personal preference. In order to do this, proceed as follows: 1. Use a common household thermometer to test water temperature. 2. Turn the temperature handle until fully hot. 3. Prise off cap and undo screw on regulator handle (handles can remain during this process). 4. Insert a thin bladed screw driver inside the spindle of the cartridge to engage with the slot inside, then turn until desired temperature is reached, always maintain a minimum 10 C difference between set temperature and hot water system temperature. 5. In case you have removed handles, refit them with screw and cap. 10
