1 In choosing an option and additional units in the option, the student needs to consider the career goal, or graduate or health professional program he/she is seeking. The option, and the courses taken to fulfill the additional units within the option, will be chosen based on the student s eventual career goals, or graduate or professional program studies. Look through the list below. There are courses appropriate to almost any direction the student wishes to take toward his/her goal. As long as the student can justify to his/her health science advisor how the courses chosen fit toward that career goal, they will more than likely be approved by the advisor. Take time to investigate the pre-requisites to graduate or professional programs, or job opportunities. Those pre-requisites may be taken and counted toward the option units. [For example, if you plan to pursue an RN program after you complete your bachelor s degree, you may count the pre-nursing pre-requisites towards option B-1. If you are planning to complete the Community Health Educator Specialist (CHES) exam, investigate courses that are required to be eligible to sit for the exam. If you choose option A, investigate job opportunities in health care administration, then take courses that will qualify you to apply for those job opportunities. If you are working toward a health professional program, investigate the prerequisites to that program, then take those courses as your option units. If you are working toward option D, look into job opportunities in Environmental Health and Safety, then take courses that will qualify you to apply for those job opportunities.] When you decide to visit your advisor, come prepared. Do your homework. Investigate and Decide what you would like to do with your degree. Visit the Career Development Center at CSUEB. The counselors there can help you to do a search of internships and job opportunities in health care. Once you know the direction you want to take, draft a plan of potential courses. Your health science advisor can advise and approve the courses you choose to reach your goal. Your advisor does not choose your career path. You need to choose it based on your personal and career interests. Listed below are courses that may be appropriate toward your career path. See descriptions of the courses in the University Catalog. It is available in the Bookstore or Online.
