Many Southern Baptists don t know who Lottie Moon is or why their churches always raise money for her at Christmas. The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering (LMCO) provides critical funding for Southern Baptists international missions efforts. An annual goal is set by the WMU Executive Board in consultation with the International Mission Board s executive staff, allowing Southern Baptists to send and equip missionaries around the world. The offering is named for Lottie Moon, a missionary to China whose letters pleading for mission support still resonate today. She died December 24, 1912, after living a life of total sacrifice to God and the people of China. The LMCO can help reconnect Southern Baptists to the core of Christmas Jesus was born to save the world! Look for prayer guides during the Week of Prayer for International Missions in your December 4, 2016 bulletin. Save the date!! 2 As Christians our desire each day is to grow to be a little more like Jesus Christ than we were the day before. Both common sense and research tell us the best way to do that is to spend time everyday reading the Bible. The Bible is God s word to us. It is in the pages of the Bible that God reveals Himself, His love for us, our need for Him, and who He has called us to be. Yet most of us don t spend as much time as we know we should reading God s Word; and often when we do, we are confused about what we are reading. This is why I am so excited about this opportunity we have in 2017 to read the Bible together as a church, and come together for the purpose of better understanding God s word and discussing how it is impacting our lives. Starting January 8 th our Sunday evenings will look a little different for our adults. Rather than 2 separate 1 hour segments with Discipleship Training and then a Worship Service, we are going to merge these 2 elements. At 5pm we will meet in the sanctuary for a time of praising God in song and prayer, and then a short teaching time relating to the readings we are doing throughout the week. After this we will break up into small groups (these will be put together loosely based on SS classes and remain the same throughout the year) for discussion. The discussion time is just that, a time to share from your experience in God s Word from the week there are discussion questions to help guide, but there is no lesson, no teacher, just a time for encouragement, sharing, questions and accountability. This plan will lead us through the Bible chronologically, so you may experience how the 66 books of the Bible fit together in a new way, rather than just reading cover to cover, or reading individual books separately. If you cannot be a part of our Sunday nights due to work, or other commitments, we are looking at possibly having a group or two that meet on Wednesday nights so you can still be a part of what God is doing in our church. We will have a time of commitment during the morning service Sunday November 13 th. I pray that you will join us on this journey through God s Word together. This has the potential to be a truly impactful time as we allow God to teach us from His Word. If you have any questions or would like more information, please call or come by to talk with me. Luncheon meal will be provided and will consist of home-made chili & Baked Potato Bar. Please bring your favorite dessert. Special Guest comedian/ventriloquist Bob Roberts will be entertaining us at the November W.O.W. luncheon. DECEMBER W.O.W. MEETING December 12:00 noon Meal will again be provided. Jeff & Connie Durham will be on hand to lead us in special Christmas music program. Again, be prepared to share your favorite dessert with us.

4 Notes of Gratitude Dear Church Family It s hard for me to express how much I love & appreciate each of you. The food, the cards and the visits have meant so much. No one knows how wonderful it is to belong to a loving church family. After my MRI on November 3 rd, I ll know more about where I stand. As you have heard, we are trying to put a lot of emphasis on our Bible Study Classes. We are hoping to possibly start 2 new classes in We need your help to invite and encourage those in your class and those who do not attend Bible Study now. We will have our first Teacher/Assistant Teacher meeting on November 13, 2016, at 9:00 am in the Fellowship Hall. We need everyone s participation in these meetings to grow and build. There will be a lot of new things happening in the next year and this is the way you will be able to know about and be able to help carry out these plans. I encourage each of you to be at these meetings. They are very important to the life and future of Sunday School at Lisbon. As always, we are here to help you in any way we can. If you need anything for your class, please don t hesitate to ask. Let me know if you have needs for your classroom or help with outreach or anything else. We are here to help you! Time for the creation and collection of SHOE- BOX WITNESSING TOOLS! Lisbon s 2016 goal is 375 shoeboxes! Church collection dates are October 16 th through November 13 th. Our shoeboxes will be taken to the regional collection center during the following week. Shoebox Processing Plant - Lisbon volunteers are scheduled to work at the Atlanta Regional Shoebox Processing Plant on Thursday, December 8 th, AND THERE IS 1 SPOT AVAILABLE FOR SOMEONE TO GO WITH THESE WORKERS! It will be filled on a First Come, First Served basis! Let Lucy or Doug know if you are interested in being a blessing and receiving a blessing by helping these Shoebox Witnessing Tools along the way! Coming up in Late December Cold Weather Clothing Collection - In late December Lisbon will be collecting cold weather clothing for Rushton s Hope Center that will distribute these items to the homeless and truly needy folks in and around the Griffin area. Instead of throwing away your no longer needed clothes, jackets, stocking caps, shoes, socks, gloves and ear muffs, make sure they are clean and not worn or torn. Bag them up and be ready to donate them later in December Love only grows by sharing. You can only have more for yourself by giving it away to others. Brian Tracy

6 Upcoming Children s Department Events November 20 Children s surprise event! Meet in the Fellowship Hall at 5:45 p.m. to find out just what is going on!! December 3 Friendship Brownie Jars We will meet in the Fellowship Hall to package up some Friendship Brownie Jars. These will be sold on December 4 th. Money from the sale of the jars will be going toward our goal for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. We will be packing and decorating the jars from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Join us for this fun event! If you have a Christmas apron, bring it with you to wear. We will put on some Christmas music as we work too! December 4 Selling Friendship Brownie Jars The Children s Department will be selling Friendship Brownie Jars in the vestibule after the Morning Worship Service.
