1 Course Description: Seventh grade social studies is a cultural geography course that compares the social, economic and political institutions of the Eastern Hemisphere (Africa, Asia and Australia) to those of the United States and North Carolina. EOG Teacher-made exam Hickory Public Schools Seventh Grade Social Studies Power Standards Students taking seventh grade social studies in Hickory Public Schools will 1. Analyze the Eastern Hemisphere and its relationship to the United States and North Carolina using the five themes of geography (location, place, movement, regions, human/ environmental interactions) and geographic tools (maps, charts, globes, databases, models, artifacts). 2. Identify the patterns and effects of the movement of ideas, people, and goods on the economies of the Eastern Hemisphere in relation to North Carolina and United States. 3. Explore and assess the connections between historical and contemporary events, issues, and figures in the Eastern Hemisphere and their influence on North Carolina and United States. 4. Analyze and compare different forms of government, rights and civic responsibilities of individuals in the Eastern Hemisphere and their influence on North Carolina and United States. 5. Examine the cultural characteristics, influences, and values in the Eastern Hemisphere and their impact globally.
