Final Draft MR. BARRY 8 Demo It s about decisions. Just like deciding where we re going to school next year. Elodie, do you know where you want to go?, a tall, attractive teenager, walks into the room casually late, and Elodie s eyes land on him. I m not sure yet. MR. BARRY How about you, Jesse? What is your college plan? Umm... I don t really know. I want to go to Stanford MR. BARRY Then you do know. INT. SCHOOL HALLWAY - DAY Jesse and Elodie leave the English classroom together. I have to meet up with the other class officers after school before Final play rehearsal, Draft but want 8 to come Demo over tomorrow before my interview? Sure, I have to go to show choir practice anyway. Oh, and Mr. Snyder wanted to know if you could be the bass in the a Capella group he needs to perform at music night. Cool, sure, I ll go talk to him. I ll text you later. Love you.
2. Jesse kisses the top of Elodie s head and leaves. INT. S ROOM - DAY Jesse, dressed in a suit and tie, stands in front of the mirror. Elodie sits on his bed leafing through a magazine and humming to herself. Final I m thinking Draft of making my 8 own prom Demo dress again this year. What do you think? I think that s an amazing suggestion, go for it! You looked beautiful last year. Thank you. I m thinking of maybe doing a light gray dress down to my knees. Last year s dress was amazing, I m sure this one will be too. Are you ready for your interview? As ready as I will be. Well, you look good. Let s hope the interviewer doesn t fall in love with you. Final Draft 8 Demo Why not? Maybe I ll get in that way. (fixing Jesse s tie) You ll get in Stanford because you re you. Are you still coming by when you re done?
3. Of course, why wouldn t I? I don t know... It s just... I m still worried. About? Final Draft 8 Demo About what happens when you get in. If I get in. I thought we talked about this before. We'll both get in, and we'll go to college together. Stop worrying, sweetie. Things are going to work out for us. I double promise. EXT. S HOUSE - DAY Elodie sits on the front porch with a bottle of water and her ipod as Jesse walks up to her from the sidewalk. Hey! How d it go? Pretty well, I think. But we ll find out in a week or so. Told you you d do well. Come and sit? I was actually hoping we could go for a walk to the arboretum and go Final get ice cream. Draft Interested? 8 Demo Yeah, sure! Let me just go get a sweater and tell my mom. INT. S ROOM - DAY Jesse lies on his bed with a textbook open in front of him and his headphones in his ears. S MOM, a brunette woman in her mid-fifties, walks into the room with an envelope.
4. Open it! S MOM Jesse takes the envelope from her and reads that it s from Stanford. I thought decisions came out tomorrow, I wonder what they want... Jesse s tears up the envelope. (CONT D) (whispering) Congratulations? S MOM What s it say? Jesse looks up from the envelope. I got in. INT. She crosses to the dining room table and begins to sort through and organize the letters until she comes to the one addressed to her from Stanford. With a nervous hand, she opens the envelope, and upon reading its contents, lets the papers fall from her grasp. INT. S ROOM - NIGHT Jesse paces around his room, his eyes jumping from his clock to the phone lying on his bed. At last, he crosses the room, grabs the phone and dials Elodie s number. Hello? INT. S ROOM - NIGHT Elodie sit on the edge of her bed. Final Hey. Draft 8 Demo INTERCUT AS APPROPRIATE WITH S ROOM: Well? You re in, right? Did you get your letter? No.
6. No, you didn t get your letter? Eh, it ll come soon, don t worry. I got the letter, Jesse. They... they sad no. I didn t get into Stanford. But... Jesse sits down on his bed slowly. I m sorry, Jesse. Look, I have to go now. I ll see you in school tomorrow? Final Yeah, ok. Draft Bye, Elodie. 8 Demo Bye. INT. SCHOOL HALLWAY - DAY Jesse is at his locker, talking to his friend ELI, a tall high school senior. Elodie approaches, holding two iced coffees. Good morning, Jesse. She reaches up to kiss his cheek. Jesse smiles. (CONT D) I brought you coffee. Thanks, Elodie. Jesse grabs his coffee, kisses Elodie on the head and turns back to his locker.
7. ELI Hey, so did you guys hear about college? Where are you two going next year? Jesse looks over at Elodie. Elodie lowers her head. We haven t quite decided. Final Draft 8 Demo I ll see you later. Bye, Eli. INT. SCHOOL HALLWAY - DAY Jesse and Elodie sit on the floor, their backs against a set of lockers. The hallways are empty after school hours, and the two sit quietly holding hands. What if you spent a year there and transferred to Stanford? I don t know... I ve always liked BU. And honestly... Would things be the same between us? Why wouldn t they be? Do you remember the summer I went to France? Last summer, yeah. Final And was to do see you Draft each remember other how after weird 8 not it Demo seeing each other for so long and how badly we wanted to see each other while I was gone? We ve been together for almost three years, seeing each other every day. A year without each other...? It would be hard, but we could make it work if you really wanted to. Elodie stays quiet and rests her head on Jesse s shoulder.
8. INT. S KITCHEN - DAY Elodie walks into the kitchen, setting her backpack on a kitchen chair and goes to the cabinet for a glass. S DAD, a man in his mid-forties, walks into the kitchen. S DAD Hi, Elodie. How was practice? Final I didn t Draft go... I had to talk 8 to Demo Jesse after school, I figured singing could wait. S DAD Anything wrong? Just college stuff... S DAD Oh? Did Jesse decide where he s going to school? Well, he got into Stanford like we knew he would. S DAD That s great news! I guess... S DAD Boston University is a great school, too. But it s not Stanford. Final Dad, did Draft you ever think I 8 was Demo the... lesser child? S DAD What are you talking about? Olivia got into Harvard... S DAD Is this because of Jesse? No, I don t think that. (MORE)
9. S DAD (CONT'D) I think you re a creative, beautiful girl with all the potential in the world. But I didn t get into Stanford. S DAD That s not a problem. You re going where suits you. You can t follow Final Jesse everywhere. Draft 8 Demo INT. S ROOM - NIGHT Elodie sits at her desk and dials a number. Hey, Olivia? I need advice. INT. S DORM ROOM - NIGHT, a moderately attractive college aged girl, lies on her bed reading a book. OLIVA Sure, El, what s up? INTERCUT AS APPROPRIATE BETWEEN S ROOM: I didn t get into Stanford. Aww, I m sorry, El. Is there any place you did get in? I got in to BU. That s great! You can study photography there like you wanted! But what about Jesse? Elodie...
10. I know, I know. But I ve spent three years with him, and I love him. I can t just give all of that up. Well, he s definitely going to Stanford, right? Final Draft 8 Demo I wouldn t let him stay; it s his dream school. Did you apply to any schools near Stanford? No... I didn t think that I d get rejected. Well, if you can t be near him, and you won t let him stay in Boston... Then? It ll be difficult to keep a long distance relationship like that. I don t think he d want to, anyway. What am I going to do? EXT. S HOUSE - NIGHT Elodie sits on her front porch with a book out on her lap as Jesse stops in front of her house on his bike. Hey, El. Wanna go for a ride? Hey! Sure, let me get my bike.
11. EXT. PARK - NIGHT Jesse and Elodie sit on a park bench, their bikes dormant next to them. Stanford offered me money. Final That s great! Draft 8 Demo I think I m going there. Oh course you are. Nothing should stop you from your dream school, Jesse. What about you? I think I want to go to BU... That s perfect for you, they have great photography program. I know... I ll come out and see you every chance I get. Final I ll miss Draft you so much, though. 8 Demo It won t be that bad.
