8 Getting playback started 1. Power ON / OFF POWER ON Press Play / Pause to switch on the power; the MP3 Music Player logo will be displayed on the LCD. POWER OFF Press and hold Stop over 5 seconds to power off until the graphic disappear. Caution: Don t remove the battery while the player is Power On, it will damage the firmware & the Player. 2. Playing Start Press Play/Pause button once, it will play the track. The TOC (Table of Content) will be shown on LCD. 8
9 3. Fast Tracking While the track is being played, press and hold PREV or NEXT for fast-forward or backward the track. 4. Skip / Return Tracking Press Next to skip forward to the next track. Press Prev to skip backward to the previous track. 5. Digital Volume Control To adjust the volume, press volume + to increase the volume or press volume - to decrease the volume. 6. Pausing playback While the track is being played, press "PLAY / PAUSE" for pausing the playback Press "PLAY / PAUSE" button again to start playback 7. Stopping playback Press "STOP" button for stopping the playback It will be Power Off if press "STOP" button over 5 seconds 8. Hold Function Push HOLD button to key lock. 9
10 9. Low Battery Indicator Indicates high battery level. Indicates medium battery level. Indicates low battery level. Indicates that the battery level is empty and the player needs to replace a new battery. Getting voice recording started Recording Press MENU for 3 seconds The player will enter the Record Mode It will record the voice automatically after entering the Record Mode Press Stop for stop recording CAUTION: when the recording function cannot proceed, please check the memory status. If the memory is fully occupied, the recording function cannot be worked. 10
11 Operating the FM radio 1. Enter to the FM Radio mode While playing in Music Mode, press MENU and select the FM Radio icon with Next or Prev Press MENU to enter the Radio Mode. * Please make sure that the earphone is connected to the MP3 Player it is because the earphone wire is the antenna of FM radio. 2. Auto Scanning the whole FM band. While in "Radio Mode" and press "MENU". The sign of "Autoscan" will show on the LCD display. Press "PREV" or "NEXT" for auto scanning First 20 FM station detected will be stored in the preset memory 3. How to save desired FM band in Memory Channel While in Radio Mode, press "PREV" or "NEXT" button for selecting the channel Press "PLAY / PAUSE" button, the signal of "Save Ch" will be shown on the LCD display Adjust the channel position by passing "NEXT" and "PREV" Save the Frequency into the memory channel by press "PLAY / PAUSE" 11
12 4. How to listen desired FM band fron Memory channel While in Radio Mode, press "MENU" for "Preset ch" Press "NEXT" and "PREV" for the desired FM band for listening. 5. FM Recording In "Radio Mode", hold the "MENU" button for 3 seconds until "FM Record" icon is shown on the LCD display -The file name "ENCO " will be shown on the display The player will enter the "FM Recording Mode" and it will start recording automatically - Press " STOP" button for stopping the recording 6. Playback the recorded file Press "MENU" button for 3 times and the sign of "Playmode" will be shown on the LCD display Press "PLAY/ PAUSE" button for confirming the selection The player will back to the "Music Mode" Select the saved FM file with "PREV" or "NEXT" Press "PLAY/ PAUSE" for playback the saved FM file 12

Return to the Music Mode Press "MENU" button over 3 seconds for returning the "Music Mode" CAUTION: Please note that the better receiving audio will have better effect when saved FM band in the memory channel REMARK: FM radio receiving quality will be affected by the location. Make sure the location can be received FM broadcast signal. 13
14 Voice recording and encoding setting You can record the message by the built-in microphone. This player also includes MP3 encoding function. 1. Record Sourcing Setting Press "MENU" and select "RECORD SETTING" with "PREV" or "NEXT" Press "MENU" button again Select" Record Source" with "PREV" or "NEXT" then press "MENU" button for confirming the selection Select "Mic" by recording the voice Select "Line-in" to encode the audio signal to MP3 format There are two functions that bring convenience to the user. User can record or encode the voice easy by these two functions. (Please refer below). 2. Start Recording Press "MENU" for 3 seconds after selecting the record source (MIC or Line In). The player will record automatically. Press "PLAY/PAUSE" for stopping recording. And press "PLAY/PAUSE" again for starting the recording. Press "STOP" for finishing recording and the player will switch back to "Music Mode" automatically 14
15 3. MP3 Encoding After select "LINE-IN" and connect with external audio source by connecting cable (included in accessories) Press and hold "MENU" button for 3 seconds and switch on the external audio source The player will record automatically. Press "STOP" for finishing recording. 15
16 Adjusting menu mode 1. Entry MENU Mode Press MENU to enter MENU mode. Press NEXT and PREV to select the required mode. Press MENU to confirm the selected mode. 2. Folder If the file saved by folder format in the player, press "MENU" for entering Two folders <Cur-dir>(CURRENT DIRECTORY) and <Up-dir>(UP- DIRECTORY) will be shown after entering the folder Select the folder <Cur-dir> and press "MENU" for returning the previous title Press "NEXT" and "PREV" button for selecting the file or MP3 Press "MENU" button and select the option of "Play/ Erase / Erase AH" by "PREV" or NEXT. Press "MENU" for confirming the selection 16

CONTRAST Press "MENU" button and select "System Setting" by "PREV" or "NEXT" Press "MENU" for confirming the selection Press "MENU" again after show the icon " Contrast" Press "PREV" or "NEXT" for increasing or decreasing the contrast Press "MENU" for confirming The player will back to the "Music Mode" automatically b. LCD B/L time Select "LCD B/L time" by pressing "PREV" or NEXT button Press "MENU" for confirming the selection Press "PREV" or "NEXT" button for choosing the LCD Backlight time It have 5 options to chose, "5 sec", "10 sec", "15 sec", "20 sec", "Off 1 Press "MENU" for confirming the selection c. ID3 Language 17
18 CAUTION: The information of ID3 and the playing file should be matched. Otherwise, the player cannot show the correct language information d. FM sleep time Select "FM Sleep" by pressing "PREV" or "NEXT: button Press "PREV" or "NEXT" for setting the time It have 5 options to chose, "30 min", "60 min", "90 min", "120 min" and "Off 1 Press "MENU" for confirming the selection e. Upgrade It is utility for updating firmware of the player if the player stops responding or not functioning. Please follow the step of software installation for upgrading the firmware. f. Return Caution: ALL data in the flash memory will be erased after upgrading the firmware. Please back up your data before upgrading the firmware 18
19 Software installation Switch on the computer Connect the player and the computer with the USB cable Insert the Installation CD (include in accessories) Enter the title of "MP3 EXPIR ) If the windows is 98SE/ME/XP, open "INSTALL 98MEXP" file If the windows is 2000, select" INSTALL 2000" and double click b) 19
20 c) Open again the file "MP3 EXPIR" after finishing the installation Computer will enter the installation platform d) 20
21 e) Upgrading the firmware Switch on the player while the installation Press "MENU" for entering the "Menu Mode" Select "System" by "PREV" or "NEXT" and press "MENU" for confirming Select "New Upgrade" and press "MENU" for confirming It will enter the installation platform Press " PLAY / PAUSE" button for starting the installation The signal will be shown on the player and the computer after the connection 21

Repeat Press "MENU" for entering the "Menu Mode" Select "PLAY" icon with "PREV" or "NEXT" Select "Repeat" icon with "PREV" or "NEXT" Press "MENU" for confirming the selection It have 5 options for choosing, "Normal", "R. Track", 'R.AII", "Random", and "10 sec Intro" Press "MENU" for confirming the selection It will back to the "Play Menu" automatically c. Return Select "Return" icon after enter the "Play Mode Setting" The player will quit to the "Main Menu" after pressing "MENU" 5. Record setting. Record Source Pressing "Mic" or "Line-in" for selecting the record source Select "Mic" by recording the voice Select "Line-in" to encode the audio signal to MP3 format 24
25 b. VAD function (only work when using Mic recording) The player will pause the recording when the environment is silent if switch on the VAD function. It will start receding again if there is a sound signal detected Select "VAD Function" icon with "PREV" or "NEXT" button Select "On" or "Off 1 by "PREV" or "NEXT" button Press "MENU" for confirming the selection CAUTION: Please note that some little sound will seems as silent while using this function. Please check the sensibility of the player to different sounds c. CD REC SYNC (only work when using Line-in Encoding) After switch on this function, the player will convert the audio signal to MP3 format automatically when switch on the external audio player. And the player will not convert to the MP3 format when the external audio source stops. 1 SYNC Select" CD Rec SYNC" icon with "PREV" or "NEXT" button Press" MENU" for entering Select" 1 SYNC" icon and press "MENU" for confirming The player will encode the audio signal to MP3 format when switch on the external audio source The player will stop encoding when the external audio source stop playback. The player will close the file after encoding and then it will back to the "Music Mode" 25
26 ALL SYNC Select "CD Rec SYNC" icon with "PREV" or "NEXT" button Press " MENU" for entering Select "ALL SYNC" icon and press "MENU" for confirming This function can encode more than 1 songs The player will encode the audio signal to MP3 format when switch on the external audio source It will not stop encoding when it is no signal from the external audio source It will start encoding again when the sound signal detected. It will divide the file automatically after encoding It will stop encoding and back to the "Music Mode" if there is no signal for long time Encode manually Select "CD Rec SYNC" icon with "PREV" or "NEXT" button Press" MENU" for entering Select "OFF" icon and press "MENU" for confirming It will encode the audio signal to MP3 format manually d. Record Quality Select "Record Setting" icon with "PREV" or "NEXT" button Press "MENU" for entering the selection It have 3 types of quality to choose, "Low", "Medium", and "High" Press "MENU" for confirming the selection 26

Erase 1 Press "MENU" to enter the "File Menu" Select "File" and press "MENU" for confirming the selection Select "Erase 1" and press "MENU" for entering Select the file with "PREV" or "NEXT" for deleting Press "PLAY/ PAUSE" for confirm the deletion b. Erase All Select "Erase AN" icon after enter "File Menu" Press "MENU" for confirming Press "PLAY/ PAUSE" for deleting ALL files 27
28 c. INT. MEM USAGE Select "Int. mem usage" icon after enter "File Mode" Press "MENU" for confirming the selection The internal memory size and the free memory will be shown d. EXT. MEM USAGE Select "Ext mem usage" icon after enter "File Menu" Press "MENU" for confirming the selection The external memory size and free memory will be shown e. INT. MEM FORMAT Select "Int men format" icon after enter "File Menu" Press "MENU" for confirming the selection Press " PLAY / PAUSE" for formatting internal memory 28

MEM FORMAT Select "Ext men format" icon after enter "File Menu" Press "MENU" for confirming the selection Press "PLAY/PAUSE" for formatting the external memory CAUTION! All data cannot recover after formatting the external memory. Please back up the important information before formatting g. Return Select "Return" icon with "PREV" or "NEXT" button Press "MENU" for confirming the selection The player will back to "Main Menu" 29
30 Operating with computer When connecting the player to the computer, a removable driver ( :) is shown on Mu Computer, it represents the flash memory of the player. CAUTION: You must use the enclosed installation CD for installation the driver if Windows is 98SE. Windows 2000/ME/XP The player does not need to install any driver if Window is 2000 /ME /XP. When the player connect to the computer, a removable driver (H:) will shown on My Computer, it represents the flash memory of the player. Then, you can upload, download and manage the file(s) in the player by computer. Windows 98SE The computer requires the users to install the driver if Windows is 98SE. User can install the driver by enclosed installation CD. The driver can be found in the folder (win98massa_driver/teleumss) in the installation CD 30
31 Troubleshooting guide The player does not work The buttons are not functioning Unable to download data Lost data How many minutes of MP3 files can this player hold Player is not recognized by the PC Player is not responding and not functioning Check the capacity of the battery. One 1.5V AAA size battery is required. Check the polarity ( + and - ) of the battery. Note: You may use any 1.5V AAA size battery, but alkaline battery tends to last longer. You can also use a rechargeable AAA size 1.2V Ni-Cid or Ni-MH battery. Check the HOLD function setting. When the HOLD function is on. All buttons are locked. Try reinstalling the battery to reinitialize the player. Ensure the USB cable is properly connected to your PC and the player. Check that the USB driver is installed Ensure that there is enough memory to store music or data file(s) Occasionally some parts of a data stream may be damaged owing to instability of power while downloading files. In such a case, format to initialize the memory in the player by the utility MP3 Player. It depends on the memory size of the player. A player with 64MB of memory can hold approximately 60 minutes the near CD sound quality MP3 files. Check if the USB cable is connected properly, and if the player is on. Check that the USB driver is installed. Refer to MSCN Firmware Download in Software Utilities. 31
