2 Parent-to-Parent Support is feeling focused emotional support that is driven by the parent reaching out to a peer for support. Parent-to-Parent support can be done face to face, through mail (electronic or surface) and on the phone. This directory includes: (Early Start) Family Resource Centers (s) Family s (FECs) Community and Parent Resource Centers (CPRCs) Parent Training and Information Center (PTI) Southern California Region Community Health Advocates (CHAs) Note: The organization that represents Family Voices (FV ) for this region is Westside Family Resource and (page 4). (Early Start) Family Resource Centers (s) empower families raising a child with a disability or who are at risk of developing a disability, through information/education, referrals, and parent-to-parent support. s in Los Angeles County have formed a network called the Family Resource Center Network of Los Angeles County (FRCNLAC). Their mission is to support and promote the development, expansion, and sharing of resources among the (Early Start) Family Resource Centers in Los Angeles County. Their goals are: To facilitate the referral of families and professionals to their local (Early Start) Family Resource Center. To promote parent/professional collaboration at all levels. To share resources and educational materials. To share training activities and educational opportunities. To support countywide public awareness and outreach. To coordinate a unified and consistent representation to the Family Resource Center Network of California. To explore the development of a centralized telephone referral system for all families residing in Los Angeles County. Approved October 5, 99 The purpose of the California Association of Family s (FECs) is to provide information, resources, technical assistance, and systems change advocacy for a statewide network of local FECs who provide family education, empowerment, and parentprofessional collaborative activities for families of children with disabilities ages - years old. Community Parent Resource Centers (CPRCs) serve families of children and young adults from birth to age with all disabilities: physical, cognitive, emotional, and learning. They help families obtain appropriate education and services for their children with disabilities; work to improve education results for all children; train and inform parents and professionals on a variety of topics; resolve problems between families and schools or other agencies; and connect children with disabilities to community resources that address their needs. Parent Training and Information Centers (PTIs) are authorized in Part D of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and are funded by the U. S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs. Each PTI is mandated to assist parents to- A. better understand the nature of their children's disabilities and their educational and developmental needs; B. communicate effectively with personnel responsible for providing special education, early intervention, and related services; C. participate in decision-making processes and the development of individualized education programs (IEPs) under Part B and individualized family service plans under Part C; D. obtain appropriate information about the range of options, programs, services, and resources available to assist children with disabilities and their families; E. understand the provision of IDEA for the education of, and the provision of early intervention services to, children with disabilities; and F. participate in school reform activities. Community Health Advocates (CHAs) are an outgrowth of a Building Connections, a project funded by LA CARE. Representative from four organizations serving underserved minority communities can provide information on health and accessing health services. The organizations are: Chinese Parent Association for the Disabled (CPAD) Chinese Community FUERZA, Inc Latino Community Japanese Speaking Parent Association of Children with Challenges (JSPACC) Japanese Community Loving Your Disabled Child (LYDC) African-American and Latino Community
