1 Outcome and Prerequisites Goal This class is intended to provide participants with the knowledge of the steps involved in the process of becoming an Energy Auditor in the DOE National Weatherization Program. We will discuss the audit process from beginning to end interspersed with classroom activities to reinforce concepts and inspection procedures. Participants are expected to have a knowledge base in place which will allow a viable transition from knowing to implementation. The goal of this class is to take ination learned in other classes and in the field and put it all together into a comprehensive audit process. There are pre-requisite classes before attending this session. Prerequisites Auditors The only required prerequisite for the Energy Auditor course is successful completion of the Retrofit Installer Shell class For the purposes of the State of Indiana Skills Verification process: The prerequisite may be waived if the student is in possession of a current Indiana Building Perance Institute (BPI) Building Technician (BT) certification.
2 Learning Objectives By attending this session, participants will be able to: Lesson Plan Recognize all the requirements needed to function as an Energy Auditor in the DOE Weatherization Program Review all s and documents required as part of the audit process for Indiana Organize classroom ination and previous knowledge base into a comprehensive field audit process Demonstrate Auditor skills and inspection processes on a home in the field as part of the Indiana Skills Verification process Formulate a work scope based on the Indiana Weatherization Priority List Validate work scope recommendations through collaboration with the Final Inspector and through future utility bill analysis Supplemental Materials and Activities Handouts & Resources Indiana Field Guide EPA Mold and Moisture Energy Savings ination/booklet Gas Appliance inspection Energy Auditor Domain PowerPoint presentations 1-5 DOE Program Notice Energy Intensity calculation New Furnace Installation inspection Heat Pump inspection Client Consent Client Appeals ination Refrigerator assessment Un-vented Space Heater inspection HUD Renovate Right Moisture Assessment Sample utility bill Boiler inspection Gas range inspection Electric Furnace inspection Oil Furnace inspection Wood Heat inspection Site-built work order Mobile home work order Heat Load calculation spreadsheet ASHRAE 62.2 Static Pressure Zone to Zone pressure Wx Math ulas calculator summary chart charts Schneidercorp.com WAPTAC.org Energyconservatory.com INCAP.org

6 Assessment Methodology Overview Due to the technical and changing nature of the Weatherization (Wx) Assistance Program, a high priority has been placed on the training (and assessment) aspects of the program. Working in conjunction with DOE s Weatherization Job Tasks Analysis, IHCDA, in cooperation with INCAA, has developed Indiana Wx Competency Standards. This Competency is a requirement to be able to work in the Indiana Wx Program. Becoming Indiana Wx Competent will require passing a written exam and a skills verification event. The skills verification event will be in addition to testing at the classroom level. There is an assessment process for each of the four Wx job classifications: Energy Auditor, Retrofit Installer (shell/mechanical), Crew Leader and Final Inspector. Students will be evaluated on the following: Classroom Desk Participation Pre-test and review Quiz activities Final written test Hands-on (Lab) Participation Hand s on proficiency Field (ISV) Assessment event (Indiana Skills Verification) is considered a field day extension of the Auditor class and is individually scheduled by student with instructor Verbal communication o Student will be expected to effectively articulate the audit process to appropriate personnel (homeowner/instructor) Hands-On proficiency o Student will be required to per a full audit in the field Application o Student will be required to complete a work order for the home Scoring Requirements 70% passing score for both Final written test (classroom) and Field portion (ISV) of assessment 85% passing score for Worst Case pressure diagnostics procedure regardless of overall score Maintenance Competency designation will apply for three years An Annual Competency Maintenance training will be required 24 hours of continuing education in your job designation will be required
