1 Goal #1: Improve student achievement in grade-level reading, writing and performance on English-Language Arts standards. Critical Academic Need: Self-Study findings indicate a need to improve student achievement in English Language Arts for all student groups. The implementation of common formative assessments in English and effective interpretation of data to drive development and instruction is necessary to enhance student academic achievement and raise proficiency levels. State assessment data (CST s & CAHSEE), student D/F rates, discussions and recommendations from all focus groups and departments, and review of student work support the need to improve students reading and writing skills.
