2 1. In CA. it is illegal for anyone to try to stop a child from playfully jumping over puddles of water. 2. There is a California law which makes it illegal to set up a mousetrap without a hunting license. 3. As of 2013, hunters in California will run afoul of the law if they use dogs to chase down bears or bobcats.

3 4. In Berkeley, California, (O.K. I Know) it s against the law to whistle for your lost canary before 7 A.M. 5. Under California state law, it is illegal to peel an orange in a hotel room. 6. It is against the law to ride a bike in a swimming pool.

5 It s the Ten Commandments. Don t feel badly. According to USA Today - 60% of Americans cannot name 5 of the 10 Commandments. How many can you name? I think this list is very important to know! Although they are actually a part of the Old Covenant, their VALUES (9 of 10 anyway) are still applicable in our lives today-

6 Have you ever heard the Ten Commandments described as a love letter a tender, heartfelt message from the very hand of God?

7 These ten statements of love, these Ten desires of God are all-encompassing, touching virtually every part of our lives They convey in simple language the greatest of truths which He knows will provide blessings and strength and to all who adhere; a successful future and a living hope.

8 They hear God saying, You mess with Me, you step out of bounds, and I ll fry you like a bug on a transformer. Is that really their message?

9 That, above all else, God gives us rules because He loves us.

10 And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, "Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles wings and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel. (Ex. 19:3-6).

11 God described His relationship with Israel as having bore them on eagles wings that He might bring them to Myself. God s loving care. God additionally reminds them how He lovingly delivered them from slavery in Egypt. God s Loving Deliverance. How He provided bread from Heaven and water from a rock for them. - God s Loving Provision. And then God said, Keep my covenant and you will be a special treasure to me. Did you get that? Those who keep His covenant are special to God!

12 They say LAWS are made for law-breakers; To corral their emotions and restrict their behavior. You have rules (Laws) for your children. Did you set them to restrict your children because you hate them or because you love them?

13 Keeping the Ten Commandments doesn t save us, eternally. (Not just because they are Old Covenant). It is clear that no one can ever be right with God simply by keeping the law, (Gal 3:11 & 24-29)

14 11 Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, "The righteous man shall live by faith." 24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor {to lead us} to Christ, that we may be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

15 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise.

16 The Law was Given to Show the Sinner His Need for a Savior. I would not have known sin except through the Law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the Law had said, *"You shall not covet. (*Which is the 10th Commandment)

18 ALL 360+ Laws recorded in the books of Exodus and Deuteronomy could be summed up in four words = Love God Love people

19 The first four commandments = are an expression of how to love God. The last six commandments = are an expression of how to love people.

20 1. You shall have no other gods before Me. G 2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image. I 3. You shall not take the Lord s name God in vain. V 4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. S 5. Honor your father and your mother. H

21 6. You shall not murder. M 7. You shall not commit adultery. A 8. You shall not steal. S 9. You shall not bear false witness. L (Lie) 10. You shall not covet. E (Envy)

22 As Exod. 20:2-3 states, and as Deut. 5:6-7 reiterates: The First Commandment tells us to put God First in Everything. First things first, you might say.

23 The first commandment is always a call to repentance because rarely, (he said), are we single-minded in our commitment to God.

24 Are you Worshipping God with ALL of your heart? There are many false gods and religions in the world: JW s, Mormonism, Muslims = false! Not to mention many idols; Money, Power, Fame, Pleasure, etc.

25 Mt. 6:24 - "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Mt. 6:33 - Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.

27 For you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God, (Exodus 34:14).

28 The First Commandment is like my relationship with my daughter. In the First Commandment, God calls upon His children to trust Him wholeheartedly, by keeping Him and His divine disciplines First in our lives. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths, (Prov. 3:5-6).

29 Tonight s little lesson comes down to this- Is God FIRST in your Life?

30 To the angel of the church in Ephesus I have {this} against you, that you have left your first love. My God is saying, I still love you. Why don t you still love me?
