1 Vilnius College of Technologies and Design Petras Vileisis Railway ation Faculty study programme - subjects for academic year 2016/17 Foreign Language EGTF The course is aimed at strengthening the skills of a foreign language as a communication tool and use of professional terms. Students have to learn to analyze speciality/technical information/literature, be able to fill in business documentation, to summarize information orally/in writing using the correct grammar norms. The course is taught in the first semester. The studies of the course are completed with examination. Mathematics 12 The course is designed to analyse fundamentals of mathematics, to apply the knowledge in technological and technical calculations, to analyse and assess the results of theoretical and experimental activity. The course is taught in the first and second semesters. The course is completed with examination. Probability theory and mathematical statistics 3 The course is aimed at acquainting students with the concepts of probability theory and mathematical statistics, rules, tasks solving algorythms. The course is taught in the third semester. The course is completed with examination. Discrete mathematics 6 The aim of the course is to acquaint students with discrete mathematics objects and their properties: sets, relationships, graphs, Boolean functions and diagrams, logical reasoning, to learn and to be able to apply methods of discrete mathematics, mathematical logic and algorithm theory in computer science, for algorithms and programming language. The subject is taught in the third semester. There is an examination at the end of the studies. Physics 6 The course is meant to provide students with knowledge of fundamental mechanics, molecular physics and thermodynamics, electrodynamics, optics, and atomic physics. Knowledge on magnetic parameters and electrical measuring instruments is provided. During the course the concept of direct and alternating current, characteristics of direct and alternating current circuits are examined. The course addresses application of physics in dealing with such issues as sustainable
2 development, environmental protection, new technology development. The course is taught in the first semester. The course is completed with examination. Technologies EGTF The aim of the course is to strengthen knowledge of information technologies, fundamentals of PC hardware and software, to develop ability to apply computer methods to solve engineering issues, to form skills of application of modern information management means in a particular personal and other practical activity, to use information systems and networks for data mining, processing and management, other computer functions. The course is taught in the first semester. The studies of the course are completed with an individual work performed by a student. Operations EGTF The subject purpose is to introduce OS structure, the main functions of the processes, memory control and virtual memory, management of input/output and file systems, protection and safety of operation system. The main operation systems are analyzed: MS Windows OS; Unix-like OS: Unix, Linux.. The subject is taught in the second semester. The course ends with an examination. ation and Logistics 6 The course aims at introducing students with the main constituent parts of transport systems: roads, terminals, means of transport and of traction, analyses transport system s development trends, interaction and coordination of various transport modes, transport politics, overviews Lithuanian transport system, introduces the concept of logistics, logistics components, analyzes situations affecting the activities of the transport company, the application of the principles of logistics in decisionmaking of transportation activities. The course is taught in the second semester. The studies of the course are completed with an egzamination. Computer Graphics 6 The course aims at introducing students to theoretical fundamentals of computer graphics, fundamentals of drawing of a sketch and rules. Course content is based on consolidation of geometric schemes drawing fundamentals. Students also get introduced to computer graphics program AutoCAD: its structur, working environment, drawing and editing tools, drawing methods, 3D modelling pronciples and formation of the main views of the model. The course is taught in the second semester. The studies of the course are completed with an individual work performed by a student. Programming 9 The course is aimed at familiarizing students with principles of programs and algorithms, systems of programs and construction, programming methods, it teaches students to develop applied information programs using object-oriented programming language. Course content covers all stages of program development,
3 data types, the basic object-oriented programming language elements, data and control structures, classes, introduces design programs for Windows systems environment. The course is taught in the second and third semesters. The second semester is completed with an individual work performed by a student. The third semester is completed with an individual work performed by a student (course paper). Data structures and algorithms EGTF The purpose of the course is to introduce students to data structures and their practical implementation using C + + programming language and standard template library (STL), learn how to create and analyze the sorting and searching algorithms. provides a systematic approach to Data structures, provides knowledge about the data arrays for linear dynamic and hierarchical data structures. The course analises in detail the classical Data sorting and searching algorithms, students are taught how to assess the complexity of the algorithm. The course addresses issues of Data exchange between external and internal memory problems in sorting and searching with very large amounts of Data and multidimensional Data structures. The course is taught in the second semester. The course is completed with the examination. Design 6 The course is designed to provide students with principles of information systems application and use, the basics of information systems development and design, classification, structure, information flows. It defines the life cycle of their use in specific systems. The course addresses analysis and modeling methods of the subject area (user s view), introduces the concept of entities on the base of which subject area is modelled. The course presents the theory of information systems, the possibilities of their use within the organization, information systems design methods. Students learn to design information systems, select and apply appropriate framework for the company s requirements. The subject is taught in the third and fourth semesters. The third semester is completed by the individual work performed by a student, and the fourth semester - a student's individual work (coursework). Computers Architecture and Networks 3 The purpose of the subject is to provide theoretical/practical knowledge about PCs and their components, their use and technical maintenance during operation of various information systems. The course presents key computer equipment concepts, PC development stages and main architectural lines. Students are acquainted with principles of transferring machine information in computer networks, with topology, architecture, models, with land and wireless data transfer technologies, with hardware and software, information protection in the networks. The course is taught in the fourth semester. The course is completed with the examination.
4 Database Management 9 The subject purpose is to present principles of modern Databases engineering, with Microsoft Access and MySQL Server, database management systems and to teach to develop applied Data mining and processing systems. The course scope covers all phases of system development: conceptual, logical and physical models. is taught in the fifth and sixth semesters. The studies of the course are completed with an individual work performed by a student (course work). Internet Technologies 6 The course presents contemporary technologies of the internet and web: JavaScript, JQuery, PHP, XML ir JSON, HTML graphic elements such as Canvas, SVG, Bootstrap, analyses modelling of internet systems, design, programming and implementation peculiarities. The course is taught in the fifth semester. The course is completed with a student s individual work. Statistics and Financial Accounting 3 The purpose of the subject is to introduce the principles of transport statistics, problems, tasks, main notions, principles of gathering statistical information, theory of statistic indicators, financial statistics, statistic indicators of a transport/logistic enterprise and their analysis, to teach students to present information on statistical and financial analysis to both intenal and external users. The subject duration one semester. The subject is taught in the sixth semester. The studies are completed with examination. Theory of Economics EGTF The course aims at familiarizing students with concepts and rules of economics. The course presents main economical rules, as well as functions and forms of market, manufacturing factors, methods and expenses for organization of economic activity, relations between the market and state, main micro economical indexes of the country, general global problems. The subject is taught during the fourth semester. The studies are completed with examination. Economics of Enterprises 3 The course is meant to provide systematized knowledge about the concept of enterprise, marketing and management, basics of accounting, developing logical thinking, analysing economic processes taking place in enterprise. Topics of practical works are linked to a student s professional activities. The course is taught in the fifth semester. The course ends with student s individually prepared work. Project Management 3 The course aims at introducing students with various business projects, providing concentrated knowledge about the project management principles, creating ideas, preparing projects, planning activities in time and the budget, assesing peculiarities
5 in business sectors. The course is taught in the fith semester. The course is completed with the examination. 9 The course aims to acquaint students with transport information systems, their life cycle, the course presents knowledge about the IS design stages and methods, implementation steps, introduces the specifics of transport information systems and real information systems: customer service, warehousing, transportation and other information systems used in transport. The course presents traffic management systems. The course is taught in the third and fourth semesters. The studies in the third semester are completed with an examination, in the fourth - with a student s individual work. Applied Research EGTF The course aims at analyzing applied research planning, organizing, carrying out methodology, principles and tools. The course content is based on the ability to find out problematic issues of transport/logistics, research them, improve, analyze and suggest solutions, apply the obtained skills preparing course works and the Graduation Thesis. The course is taught in the fourth semester. The course is completed with a student s individual work. Business English / Business Russian 3 The course aims at consolidating the skills and professional vocabulary of a foreign language as communication means; understanding speciality documentation; writing and filling in the main business documents; preparing Graduation Thesis resume in a foreign language; communicating in a fluent foreign language, actively using speciality terminology, grammatical and lexical constructions. The course is taught in the third semester. The course is completed with student s individual work (assignment). EU Policy 3 The course aims at analyzing the EU transport policy aims and strategy for every means of transport; introducing to the EU legal system fundamentals; analyzing collaboration of international organizations with the EU states and their influence on creating the common road network system. The course is taught in the fifth semester. The course is completed with a student s individual work (assignment). Computer Design 3 The purpose of the subject is to familiarize students with principles and methods of modelling with program 3Ds Max Design, with the process of visualisation, i.e. students are tought to create objects and assign materials which provide real world properties, such as color, reflexion, pattern and texture; they also learn to create image using video camera and day/night lighting, to present an object in motion and to transfer visions into three-dimensional space. The course is taught in the fifth
6 semester. The studies of the course are completed with an individual work performed by a student. Security 3 The course familiarises students with modern technical systems, with principles of secure information system composition, of operation system security, of cryptography and of secure transmission of information. The course addresses information security management, information transmission network architecture, information transmission routing basics, as well as e-business, web, , mobile network security; different services are subject to protection means; the course touches upon general information systems security problems: the classification of threats, risk assessment, the human factor, network infrastructure, espionage, passwords and login data interception. The subject is taught in the sixth semester. The course is completed with a student s individual work. Intelligence and Data Visualization 3 introduces the analysis of data from external sources (MS Access, SQL Server, OLAP cubes, Excel files, and so on.) using visualization tools. Students will learn how to build relationships between the external sources, will be able to create a variety of reports involving simple calculations and functions. Students will develop ability to depict data in combined reports of summary tables and summary diagrams. They will learn to create dynamic reports with the help of PowerView for further analysis, visualization and displaying in a table or graphic form. Students will also learn how to create reports with regard to geography. The course is taught the sixth semester. The course is completed with a student s individual work.
