1 3PK April 27-28, 2013 Paul and Silas Acts 16:16-40 Paul and Silas worshiped God! SCHEDULE for all sites: First 10 minutes of the service hour: Relationship-building time (kids get to know each other and the volunteers) Next 25 minutes: Large group teaching and worship Before going into large group, remind your class what, HOPS, the Kangaroo says: o Have Fun o Obey your leaders o Put your listening ears on o Share with others Last 30 minutes: Story review, snack and small groups, activities/crafts If you finish early, have kids engage group games as parents arrive. Check out the end of the activities section to find an idea for this week. As kids leave, remind them to tell their parents how they worshiped God today! Paul and Silas served and worshiped God! Today, we re going to focus on what happened when they worshiped and how we can worship God, too in any situation.

2 Goal: to give kids an opportunity to try out different ways of worshiping God, like Paul and Silas and to have some fun in the process! Tip: After one or two music-making rounds, let kids switch instruments! Why? Worshiping can sound like a big, grown-up word. We want kids to start getting excited about worship at a young age. *Do the REVIEW and ACTIVITY sections in whichever order best suits your room. REVIEW 1. What were the names of the friends in today s story? (Paul and Silas) 2. Who did Paul and Silas LOVE to follow? (Jesus!) 3. What did they do to tell Jesus they love him? (Worship) 4. Where did Paul and Silas worship Jesus? (in jail) 5. What happened when Paul and Silas started worshiping Jesus in jail? (God sent an earthquake and they were free) 6. Then who did they tell about Jesus? (The jailer! He became a part of God s Story by deciding to follow Jesus.) ACTIVITY Let s follow Jesus by worshiping! There are lots of ways to worship God, like singing, dancing, talking to him, or even just saying, I love you, Jesus. Today, we re going to worship by playing musical instruments. Pass out instruments to kids and explain that you re going to make music together. Give them a signal (like turning the lights on and off or putting your arms up and down) for them to look for when the music-making should stop (and this will help you maintain order). *Pray with kids and tell God how great he is. Ask them if they want to say anything about God, too! Extra time? Put on the Kids Club CD and let kids dance and sing to do some more worship! If you want, lead them in a fun musical parade around the room.

4 1 Today s emphasis should be on how Paul and Silas worshiped God. Make sure you remind the kids that there are many ways to worship God. Worship is just telling him you love him and think he s great! Feel like you're losing 'em? Change things up a bit! Spin around, change the volume of your voice, or sit down and start whispering. Change up your tone and posture to keep 'em guessing! Presenter: Hi Friends! Welcome to Kid s Club. I'm and I'm really glad you're here today. Before we get started, I want you to meet my friend, HOPS. She s going to remind us of the kind of choices we can make today Kids Club. Video: HOPS 4 Share (about 1 minute) REVIEW Presenter: (Hold up the Bible for kids to see.) This is God s story. Out of all the stories in the world, this story is the most important. It s God s Rescue plan. Remember how God made the whole world and everything was good? The world was perfect! Give me a smile and a thumbs up! (Let kids respond. Then change your tone): But THEN.something bad happened. Adam and Eve disobeyed God, and sadness and death came into the world Show me your sad face. (Let kids respond.) This was really sad. But even though Adam and Eve disobeyed God God loved them anyway! And God sent his own son Jesus to rescue us from all the wrong things in the world! We talked about how Jesus rescued us by dying on the cross! And then he came back to life and went to Heaven! And God sent a very special helper called the Holy Spirit to help us follow Jesus every day! We talked about one guy who used to be mean until he started following Jesus. Today, we re going to hear more about him and his friend Silas. Can you guys say Silas? (Let kids say it.)

5 PAUL AND SILAS SERVE TOGETHER (Show picture of Paul and Silas.) Remember how Paul LOVED telling people about Jesus? Well, his friend, Silas, did too! They were always helping people out and telling others that Jesus loves them. Everybody turn to somebody next to you and say, Jesus loves you! (Let kids say Jesus loves you. ) You know what else they loved? They loved to WORSHIP Jesus and God. Can you guys say, Worship? (Let kids say: worship. ) Worship is anytime we show Jesus we love him. Maybe we sing him a song or pray to him or dance for him or just say, I love you Jesus! Let s worship now by saying I love you Jesus! AS LOUD AS WE CAN. Ready? I LOVE YOU JESUS! Wow, great job! The great news is, we can worship anywhere...at home, at your babysitter s, at the pool, at the dinner table anywhere! Paul and Silas worshiped Jesus while they were in jail. Can you believe that?! Now we re going to watch a video. As we watch, see if you can figure out what happened when Paul and Silas worshiped Jesus in jail. Video: God s Story / Paul and Silas Wow, what a great story! What happened when Paul and Silas worshiped Jesus in jail? (Let kids respond.) Yes, God set them free with an earthquake! Everybody say Woo-Hoo! (Let kids say: Woo-Hoo! ) Then they told the guy who owned the jail about Jesus and guess what? He started following Jesus, which means he got to be a part of God s Story, just like Paul and Silas! That s great news! Everybody say, Woo-Hoo! (Let kids say it.) And the best part is God wants ALL of us to follow Jesus and be a part of his story! Wow, let s tell God how much we love him right now by praying to him. Remember, that s one way we can worship him! Pray together (break into small, repeatable phrases). Pray: Hi God! Thank you that Paul and Silas worshiped you. Thank you that you rescued them. Thank you that you rescued US! We love you! Aaaaaaaa-MEN. Now let s worship Jesus by singing together! Music Video: Be Strong Song: Come With Me Dismiss kids to small groups. (Be creative as you dismiss them. Ask them to come give you a high five first, or maybe tiptoe or hop--like Hops--to their groups.)
