3 DEAN S Message Welcome to the College of Business and Economics, the premier public university business school in Orange County. Our impact stems from our immense presence in the region and strong links to the economic progress of the area. As California s largest AACSB accredited business school, the College prepares an unmatched number of graduates for success in the workplace, and our faculty, staff and students work with business leaders to advance the fortunes of businesses in Orange County and southern California. From our University s start in 1957 to our fiftieth anniversary this year, the faculty has focused on creating a quality educational system that serves the Orange County region. Our campus and its reputation have grown along with Orange County. From the College s start in 1959 and the first masters degree awarded in 1964, we have focused on quality and excellence. Such quality is indicated by our initial AACSB accreditation in 1965, the youngest business school ever to be awarded this distinction, to our current accreditation for our undergraduate and graduate programs in both business administration and accounting. Perhaps the most exciting event for our College is the upcoming move into Steven G. Mihaylo Hall. Construction is well underway and by fall 2008, it will be our new home. We have even included a lounge designated exclusively for Graduate Students in the new building. Join us as we build on our excellence. The MBA program, as well as all of our graduate programs in the College of Business and Economics, will provide you with the competitive advantage necessary to be a strong leader in today s dynamic market driven global economy. We aim to provide you with the opportunities, knowledge and skills to be a leader and hope that you take advantage of our programs to enrich your career and life. We welcome your comments and input! Anil K. Puri, Dean 1 1

8 THE COLLEGE National Recognition Through the process of accreditation, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) confirms that you will earn a quality education. Only a small number business schools have earned dual AACSB accreditation in both business and accounting. Our program, along with USC, are the only two in Southern California to have achieved this distinction. U.S. News & World Report s annual Top Public Universities-Master s in the West ranks CSUF at No. 8. The College is listed in the Princeton Review s Best 237 Business Schools publication. Research by the College s Real Estate faculty is ranked #40 nationwide. The Journal of Real Estate Research, edited by Professor Ko Wang of the Department of Finance is one of the top three academic real estate journals. The Department of Finance is ranked 101 out of 922 departments in the country in terms of research productivity in the three leading finance journals according to a comprehensive study by Professor Chan at Western Kentucky University. The Big 4 Accounting firms have designated the College as a preferred school for accounting. The Department of ISDS was recently ranked as being among the top 36 in the nation in research productivity in INFORMS journals. Size Brings Strength and Quality With over 8,000 undergraduate and 600 graduate students currently enrolled, the College is among the five largest in the nation. Our size brings immense strengths, which maintains our quality. Graduate students may tailor their own curriculum from over 170 different courses in six academic departments. Such flexibility maximizes the ability of students to design a study plan to meet their career goals. Over 10% of our MBA students are full-time, and almost 50% are female. College faculty manage 11 Centers of Excellence ( several of which are directly involved in graduate education. 9 OUR NEW HOME During the summer of 2008, our College moves into Steven G. Mihaylo Hall (SGMH). It is named for one of our graduates who went from being the sole employee in a one-man shop to Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Inter-Tel, a communications hardware, software and services company. Mihaylo has made a $4.5 million commitment to the College of Business and Economics the largest gift in the University's history. The building is the new gateway to campus. Key features that particularly benefit our masters students include: a graduate student lounge on the ground floor several tiered classrooms dedicated to graduate-level classes ample computer classrooms, with state-of-the-art technology a new graduate programs office, with a central location on the 3rd floor interview rooms for corporate recruiting that will also double as break-out rooms for class groupwork Dean Puri notes that we want our students to have spaces to work together, as well as quiet areas for self-study. Mihaylo Hall's central quad and the cafeteria make this a building where students will want to come and stay. 7

10 THE MBA When students earn their master s degree from the College of Business and Economics at California State University, Fullerton, they can rest assured that their degree is a mark of quality. They will be joining several thousand working professionals in Orange County who earned their MBA or an M.S./M.A. in a business discipline from CSUF. Since 1963 the College of Business and Economics has been shaping business leaders. Today, almost 45 years later, as the University celebrates its 50th anniversary, the College has grown to become one of the nation s largest business schools and the only one in the L.A. metro area besides USC to hold the prestigious level of dual accreditation in business and accounting from AACSB International. Only 168 Universities world wide have achieved this accomplishment. Admissions Whatever your academic and professional background, we want to be sure that you are adequately prepared for your graduate experience with the College of Business & Economics at Cal State Fullerton. 16 FULLERTON FEMBA at Irvine The newly reformatted MBA program in Irvine is now known as the Fullerton FEMBA at Irvine. This program is offered at CSUF s Irvine Campus at the Great Park, with courses meeting twice a week from 7 to 9:45 p.m. It is a non-state supported program with a different fee structure and has several features that should appeal to working professionals: Students take only one course at a time. This allows you to focus on one academic topic, without having to juggle different sets of course deadlines. The program utilizes a cohort format, which enables you to work and study collaboratively, forming close relationships and valuable contacts, with the goal of developing valuable life-long networks as Titan MBAs. The program s scheduling allows professionals to pursue their education while working full time. This makes it an ideal solution for students who are financing their own degrees. Classes are held during the week. Hence, students manage their own time on weekends. Beginning with the Fall 2008 cohort, students with a business bachelor s degree will commence studies in August. Fall cohorts will complete the degree in under two years, with the following course schedule ( 1 indicates first eight weeks of a semester and 2 indicates the second eight weeks): FALL 2008 COHORT Fall (Aug) ACCT 511 Fall (Oct) ISDS 514 Spring (Jan) MGMT 516 Spring (Apr) FIN 517 TR 7:00 P.M. 9:45 P.M.
