CARDS Each player must show their valid McGill I.D. card to the scorekeeper prior to the start of the game. NO ID. NO PLAY! After I.D. confirmation, take the appropriate colored pinnie and report your number to the scorekeeper. After the game is played, the team captain is responsible for returning all pinnies to the scorekeeper. I.D. cards will not be returned to the captain until all pinnies are accounted for. LOST ID CARDS: If a participant has lost their McGill ID card, they will be allowed to play if the following conditions are met: 1. They arrive to the game with a printout from Minerva indicating that they were registered at McGill during the year. 2. A photo ID with the name matching that on the Minerva statement. 3. The participant must then report to the Campus Rec office within 2 working days and show the Intramural Coordinator (Perry Karnofsky) their new ID card. Failure to satisfy condition nº3 will result in the team forfeiting the game which the player participated in (and may result in further disciplinary action against the participant). Non-McGill affiliated participants Each team is allowed a maximum of three (3) non-mcgill affiliated players in the July league, which must purchase a 1-month sports complex membership in order to play. Non-McGill affiliated participants who have lost their ID will be permitted to play with any other piece of photo ID, but must also report to gym within two working days, obtain a new ID and show it to Perry. Failure to satisfy this condition results in the same penalty as regular players. DEFAULT RULE A five (5) minute delay to the start of the game will be granted if a team has an insufficient number of players to begin. The amount of time that the start of the game was delayed will be subtracted from the first half of the game. If a team still has too few players after the delay, it will default the game. WEATHER Rain will not result in a game being cancelled. Regardless of weather, please always show up at the game site.

2 EQUIPMENT Pinnies will be issued to each team at the game site. Goalkeepers will not wear a pinnie, so that they can be distinguished from the other players. Regulation (FIFA approved) soccer balls are supplied and used in all games SHOES: Metal or replaceable cleats are NOT permitted. 3 RULES Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) rules apply during all Intramural Soccer games, with the following exceptions and amendments. GAME TIME Games will consist of two 30 minute running time halves. The clock is considered continuous (it will not stop when the ball goes out of play). At the game officials discretion, stoppage time may however be added at the end of each half. The half-time interval shall be three (3) to five (5) minutes long, at the discretion of the game officials. PLAYERS & SUBSTITUTIONS 7v7 soccer is played with seven (7) players on each team. A minimum of five (5) players are required for a team to begin a match, and at least five (5) players must be on the field at all times during the match. Should a team have less than 5 players on the field at any given time (due to a red card or an injury) that team will forfeit the game. Player SUBSTITUTION is unlimited, but may only take at a stoppage in play (regardless of which team has possession) provided permission is asked to one of the match officials. Players substituting off the field may return later in the game. Illegal substitutions will result in a yellow card being issued to the player attempting to enter the game. Also note that in order to maintain the pace of the game and avoid time delays, players being substituted on or off the field are requested to do so as quickly as possible. SPECIAL PLAYER RULES for the CO-REC Division A minimum of five (5) players are required for a team to begin a match and at least five (5) players must be on the field at all times during the match, according to the following male/female distribution: 1 Goalkeeper (gender non-specific) 2 Males 2 Females Should a team have less than 5 players on the field at any given time (due to a red card or an injury) that team will forfeit the game. Also, to encourage every team in making an effort to field a full complement of players, extra players beyond the minimum requirement of five may be added as per the format below. That is, there must always be an equal number of male & female outfield players (i.e. not including the keeper) on the field at all times. 4 SUBSTITUTION rules for CO-REC are similar to the Men s game, but in order to facilitate monitoring of the appropriate male/female ratio by the match officials, all outgoing players must exit the field of play and TOUCH their substitute before the latter can step in, one at a time. Officials are instructed to strongly enforce this rule: transgressors will receive one warning at their first offence, and will then be cautioned. SUBSTITUTION ZONES & BALLS KICKED OUT OF BOUNDS If you refer to the diagram on page 2 each team has its own substitution bench, delimited by the zone behind each team s goal net. The purpose of these zones is two-fold: 1) Provide a space for substitutes to sit down during the match 2) Assist in ball retrieval when the ball is kicked over the goal line (see below) At the start of every match, each team captain will be provided with one (1) GAME BALL. These balls are to be kept close to the team bench during the game. When the ball is kicked out of bounds far away, play is resumed by using one of the balls from the substitutes bench. The team who touched the ball last must provide the new ball. Substitutes from the team who kicked the ball out are responsible to retrieve it!! Once they do, the recovered ball is placed beside their bench. This measure is in place to avoid time delays during the match. PLAYOFFS For playoff games which remain tied after regulation time, the game shall proceed to a penalty shootout. Five (5) penalty kicks will be taken by each team, followed by sudden death penalty kicks. Penalty kicks may be taken by any team member who has signed up on the gamesheet, regardless of whether the player was on the field at the completion of the game. Once a player has taken a penalty kick he/she may not go a second time until all other players have gone once. Penalty shootout format for CO-REC: o Each team will select 4 (four) shooters: 2 male and 2 female. o If the game remains tied after the first 4 shooters, the sudden death shootout will continue alternating between female and male shooters. o No player shall shoot more than once before all eligible players have taken a shot. Exceptions must be made to preserve the alternation between male and female shooters. During the FINAL game of playoffs (and only in the final) a game tied at the end of regulation time will proceed to two ten (10) minute halves of overtime, which will be played in full (no golden/silver goal). Should the overtime not be enough to break the tie, the game will proceed to a penalty shootout. THROW-INS Make sure your players know the appropriate position: At the moment of delivering the ball, the thrower: faces the field of play; has part of each foot either on the touch line or on the ground outside the touch line; uses both hands; delivers the ball from behind and over his head. Dragging the toes of one foot is considered legal.

5 OFFSIDE There are NO offsides in 7v7 soccer. FREE KICKS When a free-kick or corner kick is given, all opponents must be at a distance of 7 yards from the ball until it is played. The player taking the free-kick may ask the referee to enforce the 7 yard distance. If such a request is made by the player, the kick cannot be taken until the referee blows his whistle. Under the Fouls and Misconduct section of the FIFA rulebook, it is stated that players who do not retire to the proper distance when a free-kick is taken must be cautioned, and on any repetition be ordered off. If in the referee s opinion, the encroachment is made in the explicit intent to delay the free-kick, the offending player will be cautioned. GOALKEEPERS A goalkeeper may not play the ball with his/her hands if the ball is deliberately passed to him/her by one of their teammates, excluding passes made with any body part above the knee. Any violation of this rule results in an indirect free kick inside the box. HANDBALLS Referees will call only DELIBERATE handballs (i.e. if player intentionally strikes the ball with hand or arm). The upper part of the shoulders is not considered a handball. If a player uses his hands to protect him/herself from a hard shot, the call will be at the referee s discretion. ALL handballs called by the referee result in DIRECT free-kicks. Handballs inside the box result in a penalty kick. SUSPENSIONS YELLOW CARDS & RED CARDS Suspensions are in effect in the league, and will be given out to players accumulating yellow cards: 2 yellows 1-game suspension 4 yellows 2-game suspension 5 yellows suspended for rest of season All yellow cards received during the season are cleared before playoffs begin. Suspensions however WILL carry over. All red cards result in immediate expulsion from the game and an automatic one or two game suspension (depending on the severity of the infraction). A player who receives his/her second (2nd) Red Card of the season will be suspended for the remainder of the season, including playoffs. 1 red 1 or 2 game suspension 2 reds suspended for rest of season Red cards will not be cleared before playoffs. Upon receiving the officials report, the Intramural Protest & Disciplinary Committee reserves the right to take further disciplinary action against offenders. Violent/dangerous infractions, or severe verbal abuse will result in lengthy suspensions!

PRIZES In each division, all eligible members of the champion team will receive a McGill Soccer Intramural Mug.
