Dimly lit, wet and cluttered areas invite injuries. Keep children away. Children must never be allowed in the work area. Do not let them handle machines, tools, or extension cords. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Do not reach over or across running machines. Maintain the Solar Panel with care. Keep The Solar Panel maintained and clean for superior and safer performance. Inspect periodically and, if damaged, have the appliance repaired by an authorized technician. Disconnect power. Disconnect from battery or other electrical device when not in use. Some batteries will be damaged if they are continuously charged. The use Page 2

3 of a 50 Watt charge controller (not included) is recommended if this solar panel is used to charge any battery Check for damaged parts. Check for any broken parts or mounting fixtures; and any other condition that may affect proper operation. Any part that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by a qualified technician. Guard against electric shock. Prevent body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerator enclosures. Maintenance. For your safety, service and maintenance should be performed regularly by a qualified technician. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating the Solar Panel. Do not use this product while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask, nonskid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection must be used for appropriate conditions. Always wear ANSI-approved safety goggles when installing or performing maintenance on this tool. Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons. Tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. Maintain labels and nameplates on the tool. These carry important information. If unreadable or missing, contact Harbor Freight Tools for a replacement. Unpacking When unpacking, check to make sure that the product is intact and undamaged. If any parts are missing or broken, please call Harbor Freight Tools at: Operation If the Solar Panel is to be permanently mounted, it should be affixed in such a manner as to be illuminated uniformly throughout the day. Partial shadowing of the Solar Panel will reduce power at load and the effectiveness of the solar cells. Mount Solar Panel top side toward sun. The back side does not produce electricity. Do not leave the Solar Panel in a position where it may blow away or slide off the structure. Page 3

4 4. No mounting hardware is supplied. Here are suggestions for effective mounting: Do not drill through a solar panel. Devise brackets or clamps that attach to the aluminum frame to mount the Solar Panel. Use semi-flexible bumpers under the panel to protect it from being crushed, and to allow air ventilation under the panel. Route the wire through the Wire Feed Hole (6) and to the object being charged in such a way that it will not be torn loose from the panel. Note: This product produces 50 Watts of direct current power when in the presence of sunlight. The amount of electricity produced increases as the sunlight becomes stronger. Less amperage is produced in less sunlight, but this panel will generate electricity even on cloudy days It is strongly recommended that the Solar Panel be used with a Voltage Regulator (not included), so that the item being charged does not get overcharged and/or burnt out. This item can power small 12 VDC items, such as lights or small motors. It may also be used to trickle charge 12 volt storage batteries or to maintain charge on batteries which are powering other items, such as a car radio while the car is parked, or a depth finder on a boat while the engine is turned off. To charge your vehicle s battery, attach the Solar Panel to a cigarette lighter adapter (not included), then plug the adapter into your vehicle s cigarette lighter receptacle. Place the Solar Panel in the sun and it will trickle charge the battery. Remove the Wire Housing Cover (7). Thread the end of two wires (not included), of no less than 24 AWG through the Wire Strain Relief (6). Slide a fork terminal (not included) over the end of the wires and crimp. Pull on end of fork terminal to ensure a tight connection. Unscrew nut, slide the fork terminal underneath the nut s head, and tighten until secure (do not over tighten). Repeat procedure for other wire. Replace Wire Housing Cover when finished. Maintenance NOTE: This panel will produce electricity on a continual basis depending on the amount of sunlight it receives, as long as it has a completed circuit. 1. Do not leave this panel unattended and attached to any appliance, light or motor which may cause injury or damage if it operates without supervision. 2. Some batteries will be damaged if they are continuously charged. The use of an Amp charge controller (not supplied) is recommended if this solar panel is used to charge any battery. 3. Keep the solar panel clean. Wipe it occasionally with a damp cloth with mild detergent. Do not use abrasives. Dirt on the glass will reduce the capacity of the panel to receive sunlight. 4. Periodically check the wiring, mounting and status of any battery or appliance you have attached to this panel. Page 4

This warranty does not apply to damage due directly or indirectly, to misuse, abuse, negligence or accidents, repairs or alterations outside our facilities, criminal activity, improper installation, normal wear and tear, or to lack of maintenance. We shall in no event be liable for death, injuries to persons or property, or for incidental, contingent, special or consequential damages arising from the use of our product. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation of exclusion may not apply to you. This warranty is expressly in lieu of all other warranties, express or implied, including the warranties of merchantability and fitness. To take advantage of this warranty, the product or part must be returned to us with transportation charges prepaid. Proof of purchase date and an explanation of the complaint must accompany the merchandise. If our inspection verifies the defect, we will either repair or replace the product at our election or we may elect to refund the purchase price if we cannot readily and quickly provide you with a replacement. We will return repaired products at our expense, but if we determine there is no defect, or that the defect resulted from causes not within the scope of our warranty, then you must bear the cost of returning the product.
