1 Flag Football Examination Questions T F A minimum of 5 players is required in men's and women's divisions to avoid a forfeit. T F In the corecreational division, a minimum of 6 players is required to start a game in order to avoid a forfeit. T F The distance between zone lines-to-gain is 15 yards. T F The sidelines and end lines are considered to be in-bounds. T F The women s division may use a regular size football. T F An intermediate size football may be used in the corecreational league. T F Each player may wear pants/shorts with pockets as long as they secure the pockets with tape. T F Each player must wear a flag belt with two flags permanently affixed so that they fall at the hips. T F Players are allowed to participate while wearing hats with a protruding brim. T F Mouth and tooth protectors are legal for play. T F Players may wear non-pliable or rigid sunglasses. T F Shoes with metal or ceramic cleats are approved for play. T F Tear-away jerseys or jerseys altered in any manner that produces a knot-like protrusion or creates a tear-away jersey are illegal. T F Each player must wear pants or shorts which do not have any belt loops or pockets. RULE 2 - DEFINITION OF PLAYING TERMS T F A pass caught by a player with both knees on the ground shall be ruled incomplete. T F For a forward pass to be ruled complete, both feet of the receiver must land inbounds with possession of the ball. T F Fighting is an attempt by a player or non-player to strike or engage an opponent in a combative manner unrelated to football, whether or not there is contact. T F The goal line is a vertical plane separating the end zone from the field of play. T F The initial direction determines whether a pass is forward or backward. T F A player in possession of the ball is considered down when the defender r removes his/her flag belt. T F Offensive line players may bump or chuck the charge of the rushing defensive line player. T F Screen blocking is legally obstructing an opponent without using any part of the body to initiate contact with him/her.

2 T F If Team A s ball is marked inside the Team B s 1-yard line, Team B s scrimmage line will be goal line. T F Team B s scrimmage line may extend into their end zone. T F A defensive player may not hold or impede the progress of the runner in an attempt to deflag him/her. RULE 3 - PERIODS, TIME FACTORS, AND SUBSTITUTIONS T F All officials shall be present at the coin toss. T F Playing time shall be two 24-minute halves. T F The clock will run continuously for the first 22 minutes of a period unless it is stopped for a score or team or official s timeout. T F Prior to the final two minutes of either half, the clock will only stop for an official s time-out or a charged team time-out. T F The officials will bring all players and coaches of both teams to the center of the field to discuss the overtime procedure before the coin toss. T F All overtime periods are played toward the same goal line. T F Each team is entitled to two charged time-outs during each half. T F A charged team time-out by any player which is legally granted shall not exceed one minute. RULE 4 - BALL IN PLAY, DEAD BALL, AND OUT-OF-BOUNDS T F A live ball becomes dead when any fumble or backward/forward pass touches the ground. T F A live ball becomes dead when a pass receiver has a flag belt removed by the defender before he/she catches a pass. T F A live ball becomes dead when a runner inadvertently loses his/her flagbelt and is legally tagged by a defender between the shoulders and knees with one hand, including the hand and arm. T F A passer who is deflagged when his/her arm is moving forward in an attempt to throw the ball is not considered down. T F A live ball will become dead when an official sounds his/her whistle (even though inadvertently). RULE 5 - SERIES OF DOWNS T F If A1 carries the ball so that it only temporarily breaks the plane of the line-to-gain before going out of bounds, it would be a first down.

3 T F The zone line-to-gain shall always be 20 yards in advance of the most forward point of the ball at the start of the series. T F If a penalty is declined, the number of the next down shall be whatever it would have been if that foul had not occurred. T F A rule decision may not be changed after the ball is next legally snapped or free kicked. RULE 6 - KICKING THE BALL T F During a free kick or punt in corecreation, a male receiver may not advance forward with the ball more than 2 steps. T F The ball shall be placed at the 15 yard line following a touchback. T F Both teams must have at least 4 players on the scrimmage line during a punt (Men and Women only). T F Any defensive player may leap RULE 7 - SNAPPING, HANDING, AND PASSING THE BALL T F Team A players are responsible for retrieving the ball after a scrimmage down and having the snapper bring the ball from the huddle to the Team A scrimmage line. T F Players are prohibited from using a 3 or 4 point stance. T F No player, including the snapper, may be in the neutral zone at the time of the snap. T F A player may hand the ball forward to a teammate at any time. T F A backward pass may be caught in the air and advanced by either team. T F A backward pass that touches the ground is dead at that spot. T F Offensive pass interference restrictions begin at the snap. T F Defensive pass interference restrictions begin when the passer releases the ball on a forward pass. RULE 8 - SCORING PLAYS AND TOUCHBACK List in the space provided the point values for the following five questions: Forfeited Game Touchdown (consider that one team does not show up for the game). (Corecreation touchdown scored by a woman). Successful Try by Team A from the B3 by running or passing.

4 Successful Try by Team A from the B10 by running or passing. Successful Try by Team A from the 20 by running or passing. Team B intercepts a try and returns it for a touchdown. Safety. T F A touchdown is scored when a player, in possession of the ball, reaches the ball across the opponent's goal line even if no part of the player's body crossed the goal line prior to the deflag/tag. T F A legal forward pass results in a score if caught by the receiving team behind the opponent's goal line. T F While running for a touchdown, A1 fumbles the ball on the B3 and the ball hits in B's end zone. Ruling A's ball on the B3. T F Team A passes the ball into Team's B end zone where it is intercepted and downed. Ruling Touchback. RULE 9 CONDUCT OF PLAYERS AND OTHERS T F Unsportsmanlike conduct includes players, coaches, substitutes, trainers, and other persons affiliated with the team using profanity, insulting or vulgar language, or gestures. T F If a player tackles a runner, he/she will be ejected as well as having his/her team penalized. T F B3 is rushing passer A1 after the ball is released. While A1 is still fading back, B3 contacts him/her. Ruling Roughing the passer, 10 yards and automatic first down. T F A player must be on his/her feet before, during, and after screen blocking. T F The runner may use an arm or hand to protect his/her flags from being pulled. T F While running the ball, A1 places the ball in possession over the flag belt while B3 is close enough to deflag. Ruling No flag guard. Only the swinging of the arm or hand is considered flag guarding. T F A defender may not obstruct a runner s progress when removing a flag.
