1 A BROTHER'S ADVICE Written by Chad Schnackel & David Dalton Pages: 3+ Characters: Charlie, 16 Jeff, 25 Synopsis: Charlie asks for advice from his older brother, Jeff. He get's that and more, even though Jeff is dead. 2 INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT walks into the living room from outside. He puts his bag down. He calls out. Mom? Dad? Anyone home? No answer. He goes over and sits on the couch. He takes a big breath. Jeff? Man I wish you were here. Suddenly appears in the chair next to him. Charlie does not see his ghost. I am here. I don t know what to do anymore. You aren t supposed to have all the answers buddy. Why are people the way they are? Why does it matter? See there s this girl. It s always about a girl. I don t know how to talk to her. Just go up and say hello. I wish you were still around to give me advice. (beat) It s not like I can just walk up to her and say hello. You should try it.

3 And it s not like I can talk to Dad about this stuff. Why not? He would just make fun of me and tease me. That s what Dad s are for. There is usually a lesson in there somewhere. How did you do it? I mean you always had girls around you. Well not always. I just didn t let a little thing like fear hold me back. I m just scared. I mean what if she say s no? You move on. I don t know if I could handle that. Believe me, you can. Jeff leans in a bit closer. What s really on you mind? Why did you have to die? It was my time. It s not fair. Life isn t sometimes.

4 Why couldn t it have been me? Because you have more important things to do. Sometimes I wish it was. Don t say that. Things would be much easier then. You think this is easy? I can t even help you. I miss you. Jeff smiles. I miss you too. You know, there are times when I just ask myself, what would Jeff do? And what s your answer? And I realize you wouldn t let the little things bother you. That s right. Don t sweat the small stuff. You would probably tell me not to sweat the small stuff. Now you re getting it. So is that what I should do? Stop worrying about it?

5 It s a start. So is Hello. Charlie looks around for a sign. He starts to shake his head. You know what? I am going to say hello to Gretchen. (beat) Thanks Jeff. Jeff gets up and puts his hand on Charlie s shoulder. No little brother, thank you for hearing me. Charlie turns and looks at his shoulder as Jeff disappears. Charlie looks up with wonder. Jeff? FADE TO BLACK.
