4 Dear Prospective Student, Thank you for your interest in the Tidewater Community (TCC) College Pharmacy Technician Program. The pharmacy technician program is a two semester Career Studies Certificate Program that prepares you to sit for the pharmacy technician licensure exam. This program is approved by the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy at Perimeter, 9960 Mayland Drive, Henrico, Virginia The pharmacy technician field is one of the fastest growing health professions areas. A pharmacy technician assists licensed pharmacists with tasks like formulating, labeling, and dispensing medications, along with maintaining patient profiles and performing other routine tasks. Pharmacy technicians work in many different work environments, such as community pharmacies, pharmaceutical sales, and health care institutions. The Tidewater Community College Pharmacy Technician HLT courses are held only on the Portsmouth Campus. However, students may take any of the co-curricular general education courses at any of the four TCC campuses. The pharmacy technician program consists of 24 credits, of which 12 credits are pharmacy technician specific. Among these 12 credits, HLT 290 is an internship that consists of 120 hours at a pharmacy in Hampton Roads. The other 12 credits are co-curricular general education credits that need to be taken either before or during the corresponding pharmacy technician course. The information in this packet is designed to assist the applicant in following the steps of the admission process. The pharmacy technician faculty at Tidewater Community College hope the information contained in this packet will be beneficial as you prepare to apply to the pharmacy technician program. Best of Luck, Faculty and Staff Pharmacy Technician Program Tidewater Community College 1
